Book Helicopter Flight Simulation Motion Platform Requirements

Download or read book Helicopter Flight Simulation Motion Platform Requirements written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-09-23 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To determine motion fidelity requirements, a series of piloted simulations was performed. Several key results were found. First, lateral and vertical translational platform cues had significant effects on fidelity. Their presence improved performance and reduced pilot workload. Second, yaw and roll rotational platform cues were not as important as the translational platform cues. In particular, the yaw rotational motion platform cue did not appear at all useful in improving performance or reducing workload. Third, when the lateral translational platform cue was combined with visual yaw rotational cues, pilots believed the platform was rotating when it was not. Thus, simulator systems can be made more efficient by proper combination of platform and visual cues. Fourth, motion fidelity specifications were revised that now provide simulator users with a better prediction of motion fidelity based upon the frequency responses of their motion control laws. Fifth, vertical platform motion affected pilot estimates of steady-state altitude during altitude repositioning. Finally, the combined results led to a general method for configuring helicopter motion systems and for developing simulator tasks that more likely represent actual flight. The overall results can serve as a guide to future simulator designers and to today's operators.Schroeder, Jeffery AllynAmes Research CenterFLIGHT SIMULATION; HELICOPTERS; ESTIMATES; VERTICAL MOTION; VISUAL STIMULI; YAW; CONTROL THEORY; CUES; PREDICTIONS; ROTATION; STEADY STATE; WORKLOADS (PSYCHOPHYSIOLOGY)

Book Handbook of Simulator Based Training

Download or read book Handbook of Simulator Based Training written by Eric Farmer and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in simulation technology have enabled an interesting amount of training and instruction to be conducted on training simulators instead of on real systems. However, experiences with the procurement and use of training simulators has not always been as successful, often owing to a lack of knowledge of didactics and of training programme development, and also to inadequate simulator specifications. The Handbook of Simulator-based Training represents the first comprehensive overview of the European state of the art in simulator-based training. It also comprises a well-founded and systematic approach to simulator-based training and the specification of simulator requirements. The multi-disciplinary research project described in this book combines the expertise of specialists in human factors, information systems, system design and engineering from 23 research and industrial organizations from five countries - France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK. The authors have synthesized and documented the project results to ensure that this handbook provides not only many valuable guidelines, but more importantly a common frame of reference. It will be a key resource for the many specialists who are concerned with simulator-based training: researchers, engineers, and users; military training institutes and training system development departments; military staff responsible for the procurement of training devices and simulators; the simulator industry; the training research community; and the human factors and ergonomics community.

Book The Lean Product Design and Development Journey

Download or read book The Lean Product Design and Development Journey written by Marcus Vinicius Pereira Pessôa and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-14 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a series of high performance product design (PD) and development best practices that can create or improve product development organization. In contrast to other books that focus only on Toyota or other individual companies applying lean IPD, this book explains the lean philosophy more broadly and includes discussions of systems engineering, design for X (DFX), agile development, integrated product development, and project management. The “Lean Journey” proposed here takes a value-centric approach, where the lean principles are applied to PD to allow the tools and methods selected to emerge from observation of the individual characteristics of each enterprise. This means that understanding lean product development (LPD) is not about knowing which tools are available but knowing how to apply the philosophy. The book comes with an accompanying manual with problems and solutions available on Springer Extras.

Download or read book Vehicle Simulation written by Alfred T. Lee and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-13 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the problem of fidelity in the design of virtual environments with specific reference to the design of vehicle simulators. The default design goal has been on the physical replication of a given real-world environment and, in the case of vehicles, the specific appearance and function of vehicle components. This book discusses that perceptual, rather than physical, fidelity of a virtual environment, should be the design goal and the principal purpose is to produce human behavior. This book provides the rationale and design guidance to maximize perceptual fidelity in the development of virtual environments, and therefore maximize the costeffectiveness as well.

Book The Role of the Research Simulator in the Systems Development of Rotorcraft

Download or read book The Role of the Research Simulator in the Systems Development of Rotorcraft written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last 20 years, flight simulators have become widely accepted as training tools. Moreover, research simulators have been used extensively by the fixed-wind industry in the design, testing, and certification of new aircraft. The rotorcraft industry, however, has been slow to use man-in-the-loop simulation to solve its design problems, primarily because of the difficulty of modeling complex rotorcraft for realtime simulation and because of the need for a wide-angle visual system for low-level flight. A joint U.S. Army and NASA program has been initiated to provide this simulation capability for exploitation by both government and industry. This paper, a status report of that program, discusses the potential application of the research simulator to future rotorcraft systems design, development, product improvement evaluations, and safety analysis. Book Flight Simulation

Download or read book Flight Simulation written by J. M. Rolfe and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1988-05-12 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the complexity and capability of flight simulators have matched the growth of aerospace technology, there has until now been no textbook dealing specifically with the design and construction of flight simulators. This is a primary purpose of Flight Simulation. Written in collaboration with a number of internationally known specialists, the book considers the subject in three sections. Firstly it introduces the concept of simulation in order to identify the essential elements which make up the modern flight simulator. The development of these elements is also traced through the historical evolution of flight simulation. The main section of the book commences with an exposition of the mathematical models into dynamic physical devices capable of representing the response of a specific aircraft and its systems. The simulation of the flight environment is also covered in relation to cockpit motion systems and methods of representing the external visual scene. Another important aspect of simulation, the design of instructor and operating stations, is given separate attention. The final section considers the application of flight simulation to research and training and concludes with an appraisal of future prospects and developments.
