Book Glimpses of Grace for Jewish Eyes

Download or read book Glimpses of Grace for Jewish Eyes written by Charles Tarrell and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-02-21 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Christian faith, in its original form, was a very Jewish phenomenon. The first book in the Christian Scriptures refers to the Jewish Scriptures 125 times. The last book of the Christian Bible is famous for its countless references to the Jewish Bible. But, the most Jewish book in the Christian Bible is, of course, the Book of Hebrews, an anonymous first century book addressed to Jews and packed with Jewish history and Old Testament quotations. The heart of the Christian faith is a revolutionary concept: grace. The Christian doctrine of salvation by the grace of God is what makes Christianity unique among the religions of the world. The authentic Christian message is the gospel of the grace of God. According to the New Testament, one of the primary attributes of God is grace. In Glimpses of Grace For Jewish Eyes Tarrell explores the seven occurrences of the word grace in the Book of Hebrews. Here are seven crucial issues for every Christian, all seven seen through the lens of grace.

Book excerpt: Scholars of Hebrews have repeatedly echoed the almost proverbial saying that the book appears to its reader as a "Melchizedekian being without genealogy". For such scholars the aphorism identified prominent traits of Hebrews, its enigma, its otherness, its marginality. Although Franz Overbeck might unintentionally have stimulated such correlations, they do not represent what his dictum originally meant. Writing during the high noon of historicism in 1880, Overbeck lamented a lack of historical context, one that he had deduced on the basis of flawed presuppositions of the ideological frameworks prevalent of his time. His assertion made an impact, and consequently Hebrews was not only "othered" within New Testament scholarship, its context was neglected and by some, even judged as irrelevant altogether. Understandably, the neglect created a deficit keenly felt by more recent scholarship, which has developed a particular interest in Hebrews’ contexts. Hebrews in Contexts, edited by Gabriella Gelardini and Harold W. Attridge, is an expression of this interest. It gathers authors who explore extensively on Hebrews’ relations to other early traditions and texts (Jewish, Hellenistic, and Roman) in order to map Hebrews’ historical, cultural, and religious identity in greater, and perhaps surprising detail.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we read an English translation of the Bible we define the words within it according to our modern vocabulary allowing our culture and language to influence how we read and interpret the Bible. The Bible was written by ancient Hebrews whose culture and language was very different from our own and must be read and interpreted through their eyes. When we define the names of God using our culture and language we lose the Hebraic meanings behind the original Hebrew names of God. Consequently the true nature and character of God is hidden behind the veil of time and culture. By understanding the various names of God through the vocabulary and language of the ancient Hebrews, the nature and character of God is revealed to us in a new light. The prophet Zechariah described the character of God with the words "sh'mo ehhad" translated as His Name is One (Zechariah 14:9). This phrase beautifully describes the character of God from a Hebraic perspective that is lost to us through translation and unfamiliarity with ancient Hebrew culture.

Download or read book The Book of Hebrews written by M.L. Andreasen and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on 2014-03-24 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book of Hebrews appeared during a critical time in the history of the early church. The destruction of Jerusalem was impending and many of the believers believed the end of the world was near. However, Paul warned the church against entertaining a false hope, for he knew they were misguided with their beliefs. It was a critical time—the apostles were passing away, and soon the church would be left alone. It was in this hour of perplexity that the book of Hebrews appeared with needed light and comfort. The people needed a clear conception of the work Christ was doing for them in the courts above, and this book explained the delay in His return, and restored their wavering faith. The conditions and problems which the church then had to meet are not unlike those facing the church today. While the early church was living at the time of the fulfillment of the first part of Christ’s prophecy—the destruction of the city of Jerusalem and the temple, we are living at the time of the fulfillment of the second part of the prophecy—the coming of the Lord Jesus in the clouds of heaven. As there was misconceptions of Christ’s work in the sanctuary then, so there are those now who likewise err. There is as much need today of a thorough study of the Scriptures as there was then, and more so. The book of Hebrews was a great factor in stabilizing the apostolic church in the crisis hour before the fall of Jerusalem, and it is hoped that a discussion of the mighty themes of the book of Hebrews will be of some help to the church of God today. All need to have their eyes fastened on our great High Priest and the work He is doing in the sanctuary above. And may it be the blessed privilege of many with “boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh.” (Heb. 10:19, 20.) This was the prayer and hope of the author of Hebrews, and this also is the hope of the author of this volume.

Book Prayer of a Hebrew Israelite

Download or read book Prayer of a Hebrew Israelite written by Unknown Hebrew and published by Unknown Hebrew. This book was released on 2019-02-16 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are you interested in knowing what the Bible says about prayer? Then continue reading. Ephesians 6:18 reads, “18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.” Knowing YAHUAH's voice is critical to receive the answers to your prayers. To have a good relationship with the Most High, you have to have meaningful conversations; you achieve this through prayer. If you wish to learn the truth, you have to step outside the box; you must exercise an enormous amount of faith to understand how the Most High operates. Hebrews 11:6 reads, “6 But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to ELOHIM must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” You cannot please the Most High without faith; as the scriptures state, you have to believe in His ability to help and reward you. You will have to open your "spiritual eyes" to see the Most High's sovereignty; also, believe in things that the world declares foolish. Many expect the Most High to operate the way the world works; the world's ways are not His. Isaiah 55:8-9, it reads, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saithYAHUAH. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” The way He intervenes and delivers His people is unexplainable and extraordinary; no one will steal His glory. Everyone will know that He is behind the scene conducting miracles. Take, for example, the walls of Jericho. YAHUAH made the soldiers in the Israelite army march around the city of Jericho for six days; on the seventh day, they walked around the city seven times; after the priest blew the shofar, the Israelites shouted, and the walls of Jericho fell. To confirm this, look at the book of Joshua 6:20, which reads, “So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.” To believe that the walls came down, you have to have faith. It takes an Israelite that knows his ELOHIM to believe; the world has been blinded; they cannot see the Most High's ability; the god of this world has blinded their eyes. 2nd Corinthians 4:4 says, “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of YAHUSHUA, who is the image of YAHUAH, should shine unto them.” Here is another unexplainable example of how the Most High operates: look at the first exodus. YAHUAH could have led his people, the Israelites, out of the land of Mizrahi (Egypt) another way. Instead, YAHUAH chose to prove to the world that there is nothing too hard for Him. He is the only ELOHIM; He parted the sea and made the Israelites walk on dry land. When YAHUAH delivers you, He will do it remarkably, and only He can take the credit for your deliverance.
