The book was written by James, identified as the brother of Jesus Christ in Mark 6:3, to the twelve tribes of Israel which were scattered throughout the Roman Empire. Book The Mystery of James Revealed in Droplets of Grace

Download or read book The Mystery of James Revealed in Droplets of Grace written by Mac Goddard and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mystery of James Revealed in Droplets of Grace is Pastor Mac Goddard's attempt to offer a view of the book of James, through daily meditations that he calls "droplets of grace." Early in his ministry, Pastor Goddard read the book of James in the same manner he read the rest of the Bible-through the lenses of legalism, attempting to learn the rules of the Christian life, so he could please God and make it safely to Heaven. As a result, he really struggled with the book of James, finding it impossible to reconcile with the writings of Paul. He is not alone among scholars in this difficulty; Martin Luther, the iconic figure of the Protestant Reformation, also struggled with the book of James. Somewhere in Pastor Goddard's journey, however, it became clear to him that he desperately needed to change his spiritual glasses so that he could read the Bible through the lens of grace-God's unmerited favor. The difference was remarkable. Instead of bringing confusion and doubt, his study of the book of James brought life, peace, and freedom. The Mystery of James Revealed in Droplets of Grace examines the meaning of each of the ideas brought forth in the book of James in daily meditations that present the verses and then explore explanations of each. You too can come to grips with the book of James through these droplets of grace.

Book excerpt: The letter of James is among the most 'suspect' books of the New Testament. It was by no means clear that it would be included in the list of authoritative books of the Christian church (called the canon) until very late in the day. Reading it quickly you would not find too much specifically 'Christian' content in it. Most famously Martin Luther declared James 'an epistle of straw'. He wrote somewhat dismissively, "I will not have him in my Bible to be numbered among the true chief books, though I would not thereby prevent anyone from including or extolling him as he pleases, for there are otherwise many good sayings in him." There is also controversy about who James is, sections of the church refuse to believe that he exists Closer examination of the letter, however, shows that none of these charges stand up. Time and time again we find the echoes of the Master's words reverberate throughout the book. James did make it into the canon - and rightly so.

Book The Expositor s Bible The General Epistles of St James and St Jude

Download or read book The Expositor s Bible The General Epistles of St James and St Jude written by Alfred Plummer and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2019-12-05 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a Bible commentary for the Epistle of James and Jude. The Epistle of James is a general epistle and one of the 21 epistles in the New Testament. Framing his letter within an overall theme of patient perseverance during trials and temptations, James writes in order to encourage his readers to live consistently with what they have learned in Christ. He condemns various sins, including pride, hypocrisy, favoritism, and slander. He encourages and implores believers to humbly live by godly, rather than worldly wisdom and to pray in all situations. The second epistle discussed in this book is the Epistle of Jude, which is the penultimate book of the New Testament as well as the Christian Bible. It condemns in fierce terms certain people the author sees as a threat to the early Christian community, but describes these opponents only vaguely. According to Jude, these opponents are within the Christian community, but are not true Christians: they are scoffers, false teachers, malcontents, given to their lusts, and so on.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do your Monday actions reflect your Sunday worship? How about your claims to faith? Is your life full of noticeable changes and actions? James, the half-brother of Jesus, wasn't impressed with talk. He knew that a life of faith was all about actions that revealed a difference in a person's life. For him, it was not that works save the Christian, but that they mark the Christian. In his letter, he boldly deals with practical issues of faith not bound by culture or place. He shows the importance of living a genuine life of faith. His message is bare-knuckled as he encourages, challenges, and confronts, offering practical words and admonitions to live out our faith. As you read, study, journal, and discuss the book of James, watch for these key themes that Max will unpack throughout the book: God gives us true wisdom. Satan tempts to break us; God tests to strengthen us. The words we use are powerful and influential. Faith and good deeds go hand in hand. The Life Lessons with Max Lucado series brings the Bible to life in twelve lessons filled with intriguing questions, inspirational stories, and poignant reflections to take you deeper into God's Word. Each lesson includes: An opening reflection on the Bible book you're studying. Background information to deepen your understanding of the cultural and historical setting. An excerpt of the text (from the NIV and the NKJV). Exploration questions with plenty of room to write your own thoughts and notes. Inspirational thoughts from Max as well as a closing takeaway for further reflection. The Life Lessons series is ideal for use in both a small-group setting or for individual study.
