Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of us want to live a long, healthy life, but how do we do that? Drawing upon lessons from his own life, Mayo Clinic cardiologist Stephen Kopecky offers a holistic, evidence-based approach to preventing common diseases and chronic illnesses and living a longer life of pleasure and purpose. In the past century, the leading causes of death around the world have shifted from infectious diseases to long-term chronic illnesses. What’s killing us today isn’t so much flu or tuberculosis, but heart disease and cancer. In fact, more than 1.2 million Americans die from these two diseases each year. Paradoxically, these chronic diseases are a consequence of living longer than ever. But even if we’re living longer, are we living better? The overwhelming number of people now living under the burden of chronic illness indicates otherwise. After surviving two bouts of cancer, Dr. Stephen Kopecky, M.D set out to discover the behaviors people can adopt to live longer lives free of chronic illnesses and diseases. What he discovered was that the answer lies in just six habits that require small changes to your daily life, but reap big results long-term. From adopting better diet and exercise habits to managing stress and sleep, these behaviors will not only preserve your health, they can improve your quality of living and extend your life. The secret, however, lies not just in the steps themselves but in how you accomplish them. This book offers in-depth insights on: The best foods to eat and why Increasing physical activity and improving fitness Why your sleep habits matter The dangers of stress and what to do about them The true impact of alcohol and tobacco on our bodies How to make changes that will last a lifetime After 30 years of research in the field of cardiovascular disease prevention, Dr. Kopecky is sharing what he’s learned from his practice and own personal experience about staying healthy, preventing chronic illnesses, and living younger longer.

Download or read book 30 Days to a Younger Heart written by Tamra Anima and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-04 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I want to thank you and congratulate you for downloading the book, "30 Days to a Younger Heart." The health of your heart should be one of the biggest things that you concern your life with. When your heart is not working the way that you would like, you might find that you are miserable and not able to get as much done as you used to. But when the heart is working properly, you will have a healthy and active life for a long time to come. This guidebook is going to spend some time discussing the steps that you need to take in order to keep your heart working healthy for a long time to come. Chapter 1 will spend some time talking about what heart disease is. It talks about some of the symptoms, causes, and risk factors that you should look out for when heart disease is a concern in your life. There are many different kinds of heart disease and this is often used as an umbrella term for all of them, but it is still important that you get it taken care of as soon as possible. Chapter 2 then talks about one of the first things you should do in order to help keep your heart health, whether you are trying to avoid problems in the future or you already have heart disease. This chapter talks about some of the ways that you can eat properly in order to give your heart all of the healthy nutrients it needs without having to worry about giving it the bad things like bad fats, cholesterol, and too much sodium. Chapter 3 then goes on to talk about how exercise is important for the heart. You can choose almost any exercise that you would like, just make sure that you are getting up and moving and causing the heart to work a little bit. This is important because if you are sitting on the couch and not doing anything all day, it becomes difficult to keep the heart in tip top shape. You can begin an exercise program at any time, just make sure to make it a routine so you get the best benefits out of it all. Chapter 4 then goes on to talk about some of the medications and alternative therapies that you can consider in order to help with the heart disease. In some cases, eating a good diet and exercising a lot is going to not be enough to keep your heart healthy and you might need to rely on a few other treatments to help. This chapter will look at these different options, but make sure that you discuss them with your doctor ahead of time to ensure they are going to be the right choices for you. Chapter 5 ends out this book with some of the best tips in order to keep your heart working healthy for a long time to come. It will give practical advice on diet, ways to stay motivated while you are trying to work out, and ways to reduce the amount of stress that you are feeling on a day to day basis. Use some of the tips that are presented in this chapter in order to see some amazing results in the overall health of your heart. There are so many good things that you will be able to do in order to ensure that your heart is working at its peak performance in no time. Make sure to use some of the suggestions that are found in this guidebook. The more that you can do earlier in your life the better chance you have of avoiding heart disease and all of the complications that can come from it to have a better life overall. Thanks again for downloading this book, I hope you enjoy it!

Book Heartstrong

Download or read book Heartstrong written by Ellidy Pullin and published by Hachette Australia. This book was released on 2022-09-28 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'If not with you, then for you.' It was a perfect Wednesday morning when Alex 'Chumpy' Pullin kissed his partner, Ellidy, goodbye to go spearfishing. Most days Ellidy would go to the beach too, but that day she didn't. Later, there was a knock at the door. A man had been found unconscious on the ocean floor. It was Chumpy. From that moment, Ellidy's world stopped. There was deep grief, disbelief and then the gradual realisation that this was real. Ellidy's partner of eight years, a World Champion snowboarder, a man of energy and music, was gone. And so was the life they had built together and the dream of the child they had been trying for. In the hours that followed a suggestion was made: did Ellidy want to harvest Chumpy's sperm and try for the baby they both wanted so deeply? There was a ticking clock and the need to discuss with family and friends. They had thirty-six hours before it would be too late . . . Heartstrong is an unforgettable book about love, joy, grief, hope and finding a way to keep going in the darkest of times.

Book Stress Proof Your Heart

Download or read book Stress Proof Your Heart written by Eliz Greene and published by Sound Wisdom. This book was released on 2020-04-04 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is stress hurting your heart? Do you want to live longer, feel better, and protect your health? A stress-proof heart is immune to the physical impact of unrelenting stress. Diet and exercise play an important role in preventing heart disease, but the most insidious, under-addressed risk factor of all is the one that many of us find the hardest to manage—stress. We can’t alleviate all stress, and we wouldn’t want to even if we could. Some stress is natural and necessary; it is what gives us the zing of energy to get things done. Trouble comes when that zing becomes a constant thrum, continually triggering the stress hormone cortisol to pump into the body rather than allowing it to ebb and flow as we need it. This book provides tools to power a fulfilling life by efficiently processing cortisol out of the body and nurturing a heart resilient enough to withstand high stress, change, crisis—and to bounce back from illness. Author Eliz Greene knows that protecting your heart from stress isn’t a “nice-to-have.” The strategies in this book are essential, life-or-death skills. When she was 35 years old and 7 months pregnant with twins, Eliz survived a massive heart attack, causing her heart to stop for 10 minutes. To reduce her heightened risk of having another heart attack, she’s spent the last 17 years honing practical and implementable strategies to manage stress for herself and the thousands of audience members and readers she reaches each year. Stress-Proof Your Heart contains these strategies and the fruits of her international research study on job stress. Engaging assessments and actionable principles and tools will enable you to evaluate the physical impact of your stress and then offset that impact to protect your heart. Find out how to: Protect your heart from the stress hormone cortisol and avoid countless other unpleasant symptoms such as weight gain (especially in the belly and face), insomnia, muscle weakness, mood swings, and reduced cognitive function. Use everyday activities to help your body efficiently process cortisol of your system, so you can to feel better and function at a higher physical and mental level. Motivate yourself to commit to a healthier life. Includes bonus content to address emotional stress from Eliz’s book Stress-Proof Your Life.
