Book excerpt: Like a third of the UK population, Julia has a chronic pain condition. According to her doctors, it can't be cured. She doesn't believe them. She does believe in miracles, though. It's just a question of tracking one down. Julia's search for a cure takes her on a global quest, exploring the boundaries between science, psychology and faith with practitioners on the fringes of conventional, traditional and alternative medicine. Raising vital questions about the modern medical system, Heal Me is also a story about identity in a system skewed against female patients, and the struggle to retain a sense of self under the medical gaze.

Book Take Me Or Heal Me An Ultimatum From a Weary Heart

Download or read book Take Me Or Heal Me An Ultimatum From a Weary Heart written by Rinad Bsharat and published by Aviva Publishing. This book was released on 2021-10-26 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My name is Rinad Bsharat and I should be dead by now. In March 2005, I was told I had three months to live. Yet it is 2021, and I am still here. Faced with a cancer diagnosis at twenty-three, Rinad Bsharat is sure it will be a footnote in her life's journey. As a young twenty-something with high ambitions, she is invincible. Convinced the disease will be a temporary distraction, she follows her dreams and starts law school as scheduled. The disease, however, has other plans. Nicknamed "Bisseh" or "cat" as a child by her father, Rinad has expended her nine lives in a battle against Hodgkin's Lymphoma after doctors claimed six months of chemotherapy would cure this disease. Her journey has lasted eighteen years so far, and traversed nine different treatment protocols-each one threatening her life in a different way. Throughout her treatments, Rinad struggles with her identity and her faith as she searches to find love and the purpose of her life. With each diagnosis and subsequent remission, Rinad learns to live each of Bisseh's nine lives with, and in spite of, the disease. With every relapse, she attempts to live the chic dating life of a successful young attorney-albeit sometimes in very outrageous wigs. She tries various supposed "cures," from traditional Western medicine to New Age methods in rural Mexico. During these treatment protocols, she maintains her career as a successful attorney working in the federal government, and then she goes on to build a second career in real estate. Rinad is told many times to prepare for death, but each time she beats the odds. She allows herself to ask-and explore-many difficult questions that challenge her beliefs in herself and her faith. With each remission, she is reborn stronger and comes to see this realization as a different type of cure than she initially sought, finding peace in the healing of her heart from a sense of purpose and everlasting love.

God’s peace embraced her, while her lifelong fear fled. In The Fruit that Is Ripe Is Always Sweeter, Thompson shares her poetic story of longing to discover God’s unwavering love. She has learned that God’s love is always with us and always available to all who seek it. This collection is an uplifting account of a soul’s venture to be set free from the bounds of fear while seeking God, revealing life-giving truths with no condemnation. With God’s help, Thompson found love and peace. She sought God’s presence, and He answered. The wisdom revealed was overwhelmingly easy to understand and use in her daily life, bringing her comfort and joy. When God opened her eyes, His truth became real to her. There are still trials and tribulations, but Thompson now confides in a divine friend through prayer and the written word.

Book Mind Games

  • Pages : 165 pages

Download or read book Mind Games written by Heather Clark and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2024-02-27 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book Mind Games is a collection of poems inspired by the deep-rooted emotions people often are unable to control or are capable of feeling too strongly or sometimes not nearly enough. These words are a reminder that as we evolve throughout our lives, at times it will hurt worse than anything we thought possible, but that’s okay because we still were present to experience those moments as well as the ones that warmed and opened our hearts like no other. When reading Mind Games, the author wants readers to feel connected, for even the briefest moment, to see into someone else’s life and not feel alone, to know there are others feeling the same and who still persevere. The greatest message in these words is a reminder that the greatest power we have is to be true to ourselves. About the Author Heather Clark was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Growing up she was always immersed in the arts, literature, and nature. At a young age, Clark was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. Due to her age, she did not know how to deal with or handle her feelings in the best way and writing soon became an outlet to accept the things that she didn’t think she could talk about. Through the process of writing, Clark realized she wasn’t alone. As she put her words to paper, she realized how important words can be to others. Not only was Clark allowing herself to feel and process, but she could potentially help others know they aren’t alone either.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a legend of a Welsh Prince Madoc whose ship became stuck in Chesapeake Bay. After trying unsuccessfully to escape, he had his men row out with the anchor, drop it as far into the sea as they could, and then the ship winched its way forward. The image of the church as a boat and tradition as an anchor is prevalent in Christian art. If we examine the biblical view of an anchor, we find, like Prince Madoc, we are to cast our anchor into the future and pull the church forward.Postmodern pilgrims must strive to keep the past and the future in perpetual conversation so every generation will find a fresh expression of the Gospel that is anchored solidly to “the faith that was once for all delivered.”
