[...] THE FEDERAL ROLE IN THE REGULATION OF FOOD BIOTECHNOLOGY HEALTH CANADA The responsibility for establishing science-based policies and standards pertaining to the nutritional composition, quality and safety of food, including GM foods, lies solely with Health Canada in the Food Directorate, Food Program, Health Products and Food Branch. [...] The Canadian Food Inspection Agency also has the responsibility for all federal inspection programs related to safeguarding food, plant and animal health, as well as for the enforcement and administration of many of the regulations relating to the Food and Drugs Act.
