Book Healing the Holy See Improving Spiritual Intelligence Evolution and Human Rights in the Roman Catholic Church and other Religions

Download or read book Healing the Holy See Improving Spiritual Intelligence Evolution and Human Rights in the Roman Catholic Church and other Religions written by Mark O'Doherty and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2020-01-30 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to further harmony and human rights in Catholicism and the world at large; by exploring delicate issues within the Catholic Church, such as clerical celibacy, which ought to be discarded, according to the author - as well as gender inequality; recent revolts in the Vatican showing that the church is still failing women. While Pope Francis has opened up more discussion about women's roles and appointed women in key Vatican positions, the topic of them becoming priests is still very much taboo. Quantum Theory - and the ethical and psychological ramifications of spiritual intelligence - is also an approach which the world religions should adopt, according to the author, as the world is always in motion - constantly changing, developing and evolving... However, first and foremost this book advocates that we all have to work together on making the world a better place - by being open-minded and willing to overbridge differences; so that peace, prosperity and love can be manifested in the world.

This book was released on 2002 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spirituality and Intellectual Disability: International Perspectives on the Effect of Culture and Religion on Healing Body, Mind, and Soul provides a cross-cultural outlook on how the three major world religions view people with intellectual disabilities. Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are examined in relation to topics such as spiritual health, worship practices, and the development of identity. Chapters on women in Middle Eastern society and the influence of Native Americans on the Christian perspective bring new and refreshing ideas to these under-researched topics. The Roman Catholic Church's historically shifting view and present-day ideas on persons with intellectual disabilities is discussed, as is Judaism's attempt to teach intellectually disabled youngsters the meaning of religious symbols. The book also offers creative insights for making religious celebrations more inclusive.

Book Healing in the History of Christianity

Download or read book Healing in the History of Christianity written by Amanda Porterfield and published by Oxford University Press on Demand. This book was released on 2005-08-25 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Healing is one of the most constant themes in the long and sprawling history of Christianity. Jesus himself performed many miracles of healing. In the second century, St. Ignatius was the first to describe the eucharist as the medicine of immortality. Prudentius, a 4th-century poet and Christian apologist, celebrated the healing power of St. Cyprian's tongue. Bokenham, in his 15th-century Legendary, reported the healing power of milk from St. Agatha's breasts. Zulu prophets in 19th-century Natal petitioned Jesus to cure diseases caused by restless spirits. And Mary Baker Eddy invoked the Science of Divine Mind as a weapon against malicious animal magnetism. In this book Amanda Porterfield demonstrates that healing has played a major role in the historical development of Christianity as a world religion. Porterfield traces the origin of Christian healing and maps its transformations in the ancient, medieval, and modern worlds. She shows that Christian healing had its genesis in Judean beliefs that sickness and suffering were linked to sin and evil, and that health and healing stemmed from repentance and divine forgiveness. Examining Jesus' activities as a healer and exorcist, she shows how his followers carried his combat against sin and evil and his compassion for suffering into new and very different cultural environments, from the ancient Mediterranean to modern America and beyond. She explores the interplay between Christian healing and medical practice from ancient times up to the present, looks at recent discoveries about religion's biological effects, and considers what these findings mean in light of ages-old traditions about belief and healing. Changing Christian ideas of healing, Porterfield shows, are a window into broader changes in religious authority, church structure, and ideas about sanctity, history, resurrection, and the kingdom of God. Her study allows us to see more clearly than ever before that healing has always been and remains central to the Christian vision of sin and redemption, suffering and bodily resurrection.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nestled in a valley at the feet of the Sangre de Cristo mountains of New Mexico, the Santuario de Chimayó has been called the most important Catholic pilgrimage site in America. Famous for its miraculous healing dirt, it attracts half a million visitors each year. This book offers the first comprehensive history of this remarkable church, often referred to as the American Lourdes. It tells the fascinating stories of the Pueblo and Nuevomexicano Catholic origins of the site and the building of the church, the eventual transfer of the property to the Catholic Archdiocese of Santa Fe, and the growth of the modern pilgrimage of believers alongside thousands of tourists and other visitors. Drawing on extensive archival research as well as fieldwork in Chimayó, Brett Hendrickson examines the claims that various constituencies have made on the Santuario, its stories, ritual life, commercial value, and aesthetic character. The importance of the story of the Santuario de Chimayó goes well beyond its sacred dirt, including the significant role Southwestern Hispanics and Catholics have played in American religious history and identity. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiritual healing has been a cornerstone of Christian belief from its beginnings, although there are various interpretations of what exactly it is and how it happens. To address these questions, the contributors to this volume come together to examine spiritual healing from a number of disciplinary perspectives. How can such healing be explained through a scientific or medical lens? What do biblical and historical instantiations of it tell us today? And how are we to think of it as anthropologists, philosophers, or theologians? Finally, what does all this mean for those seeking spiritual healing for themselves, or pastors walking alongside the afflicted? Deftly edited by theologian Sarah Coakley, Spiritual Healing offers a composite narrative that investigates the many intermingled factors at work in this intriguing phenomenon. The result is a human story as much as it is a theological one, satisfying discerning believers and skeptics alike in its rigorous pursuit of truth and meaning.

Book Healer of Souls

Download or read book Healer of Souls written by Kathleen E. Quasey and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-06-13 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We all have weaknesses that affect our body, mind, and spirit. But it is our will to overcome them that decides how we live. With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible (Mt 19:26)" - Father Peter Mary Rookey, O.S.M. The healing priest, Father Peter Mary Rookey, O.S.M, received Christs Gift of Healing in 1948. Since then, thousands of healings have been reported worldwide. Witness letters, some with medical consensus, have been submitted to the International Compassion Ministry. When asked about the healings, Father Rookey simply says, "I just do what He told us to do and the people are delivered and healed. We are answering the last command of Jesus, . . . They shall lay their hands upon the sick, and they shall recover (Mk 16:18). For the first time, in his own words, Father Rookey explains his lifes journey that has been guided by his constant "Yes" to God. With gentle humor and keen intelligence, Father Rookey provides practical direction of how deepening trust in Gods Laws and Love leads to the healing of serious hurts and the overcoming of lifes most difficult challenges. In the process, Father Rookey says, "Our souls begin to recognize that we belong to Him and He is Love. Ultimately, filled with His Love, we can give the gift of ourselves to Christ and His Love will come forth through us." Nihil Obstat, Rev. Anthony J. Brankin, S.T.L., Imprimatur, Rev. George J. Rassas, Archdiocese of Chicago, November, 2005; " . . .it is all I can do to put it down. There is so much to this book. . . The testimonies of numerous healings are wonderful to read. The insights into Fathers life are also wonderful to read. But perhaps the most important parts of this book deal with his answers to the insightful questions which the author asks. For example, in asking Father about spiritual enslavement, he talked of conversion and turning away from serving Satan toward serving God. Father says, "Thats what we are about in the healing ministry. Although some sickness, for example, is allowed by God to purify us and sanctify us because there is no prayer, no sanctifier, like suffering. Jesus Himself proved that, by suffering terribly and even dying in agony to open the Gates of Heaven for us. There is nothing compared with suffering to sanctify and to be a power for good in the world. . . . This is just a very small example of the wisdom contained in this book from Father Rookeys heart and mind. Often times, I had to reread what he said, it is so beautiful and touching . . . The numerous pictures throughout the book are amazing.. . . . This is the first book I have ever read preparing to do a review that I do not feel qualified to review . . . I have known Father Rookey for many years yet had no idea how brilliant a man he is. I knew he was a holy man but had no idea the depth of his holiness. I knew he healed many people but had no idea how many. . . This book is a treasure." Mary Sue Eck, Editor, Medjugorje Magazine; "I am 3/4 of the way done . . .I am speechless. My prayer life has changed because of this book. I often find myself going through the motions at Mass praying as though I should. This book has helped me reflect on our religion/Mass and the sacraments (especially reconciliation). (The) book about Father Rookey has had a deep impact on me." Jamie; "I think it is the best book so far because of the vast amount of spiritual advice and information. It should be read daily and the various chapters over and over again to absorb them because of the depth and intelligence of the advice." Richard
