Book He Gave Me Shelter

Download or read book He Gave Me Shelter written by La Trina Neal and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "La Trina Neal has a special gift that is both inspirational and insightful. Her accomplishment of documenting her experiences is just the tip of her abilities and discernment. The experiences she writes about in this book cannot begin to describe the depth of her humility and strength. Walking the walk of faith requires much courage and servitude. Both of these traits are exhibited in her life...I am inspired by her light." -Dwight Radcliff Director of Operations, U.S. Vets, Inc (Inglewood, CA.) He Gave Me Shelter is an affecting and poignant story of a young woman whose dreams were derailed when circumstances forced her into a homeless shelter. Faced with the challenges of getting her life back on track, La Trina finds herself negotiating with the colorful and troubled personalities of the other residents. While settling into a successful routine, a crisis at the shelter forces her into the role of resident manager and, eventually, executive director. Through this animated and emotionally charged tale, the author provides a guided tour of this too-often unseen world, while giving voice to the homeless and dignity to their daily struggles. A portion of the proceeds from book sales will benefit homeless advocacy groups and organizations.

Book excerpt: What do you do when a nuclear weapon detonates nearby? During the early Cold War years of 1945-63, Civil Defence Canada and the Emergency Measures Organization planned for just such a disaster and encouraged citizens to prepare their families and their cities for nuclear war. By the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis, the civil defence program was widely mocked, and the public was vastly unprepared for nuclear war. Canada’s civil defence program was born in the early Cold War, when fears of conflict between the superpowers ran high. Give Me Shelter features previously unreleased documents detailing Canada’s nuclear survival plans. Andrew Burtch reveals how the organization publicly appealed to citizens to prepare for disaster themselves -- from volunteering as air-raid wardens to building fallout shelters. This tactic ultimately failed, however, due to a skeptical populace, chronic underfunding, and repeated bureaucratic fumbling. Give Me Shelter exposes the challenges of educating the public in the face of the looming threat of nuclear annihilation. Give Me Shelter explains how governments and the public prepared for the unexpected. It is essential reading for historians, policymakers, and anybody interested in Canada’s Cold War home front.

Book Why Did God Seat Me Next to the Toilet

Download or read book Why Did God Seat Me Next to the Toilet written by Frank J. Nice and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-09-09 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our God is a God who is in total control of all that happens to the whole world and to each of us individually. God can allow or prevent bad things from happening. Of course, most of us desire that God would prevent bad things from happening. When we are seated next to the toilet on an airplane, we pretty much assume that God could care less whether we are seated next to the toilet or are seated in first class. Yet God controls every single action that occurs in the world, or He would not be God. When we are seated next to the toilet of life, we discover, as Job did, that God allowed this to happen for all things to work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. God's plan for us, who trust in Him, are to prosper us and not to harm us but to give us hope and a future. The purpose of this book is to show that no matter how bad the evil and sin that confront us, God is in total control, and His words of promise to us will be fulfilled. On this earth, you may lose all that you have: family; friends, wealth, health, possessions, dignity, and told to curse God and die, as Job was. Through God's grace and mercy, you can endure as Job endured. Do not think that Job endured only because God knew him as a "blessed man who lives righteously." You and I are most certainly not of the character of Job, but God has seated us next to the same toilet of life where Job was seated. Because God is always nearby during our trials (He told Job that), we will discover God's specific plan for us when He does seat us next to the toilet, whether it be on the plane or on the earth.

Book A Century of Air Warfare With Nine IX Squadron RAF

Download or read book A Century of Air Warfare With Nine IX Squadron RAF written by Gordon Thorburn and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2014-07-02 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the earliest days of World War One, when IX Squadron was formed, we went to the fight in little 50mph machines that were barely capable of taking pilot and observer, a gun and a few small, hand-held bombs into the sky, especially on a windy day. When we took a wireless set, to spot for the artillery and report on troop movements, the extra load forced the defenceless pilot to leave his observer behind.A century later, IX (B) Squadron flies jets that can exceed the speed of sound, place laser-guided missiles within a few centimetres of the target, and transmit the most complex data in real time across the globe. In between, the tale is of ponderous beasts of biplanes, of Wellingtons and Lancasters in the bloody battles of World War Two, of Canberras and Vulcans in the nuclear age of the Cold War.Above all, it's the story of the men and women of the RAF's senior bomber squadron across a hundred years of war and peace, and their words fill this book. We go from those beginnings in wood, wire and fabric kites over France and a pilot armed with a service revolver, to the world's first Tornado squadron in the Gulf wars, over Kosovo and Afghanistan, and so to the present, a century on.It really is one hell of a story.

Book excerpt: During a client hypnosis session, author Despo Pishiri unintentionally managed to communicate with her Higher Self. The client was in a deep state of hypnosis, and Despo’s Higher Self used this opportunity to talk to her through her client. The Higher Self provided valuable information about Despo’s past lives which triggered her curiosity to understand the mechanisms involved in the process of spiritual development. This initial channeling encouraged her to find her true self, and it became the catalyst for writing this, her first book, From Darkness to Light. With a blend of personal and professional testimony, she reinforces the message of love, compassion, and tolerance inherent in the three religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity against the backdrop of knowing who you are. She stresses the similarities between the three religions and reinforces the ideas of their teachings. Useful and enlightening, From Darkness to Light shares Despo’s personal discoveries as well as offers principles about self and healing your body, mind and spirit.
