Book excerpt: In twelve days, a total of 144,000 of the most evil in the world will die at the hands of one individual. He never touches them, only says, "He awaits you." Every one of them dies an immediate tragic death. Evangelicals believe John is sent from heaven to destroy evil. The alphabet soup of global law enforcement thinks that John is a mass murder. Tom Barker is a third and occasionally second page writer for the Weekly Bundle, ever searching for the elusive front page. Tom has the exclusive story on this stranger he coined "Angel John." Tom's life will change from struggling obscurity to wealth, fame, and status for the global story on John. We followed Tom and his beloved Alice, who must go through hell to keep what they have, their true love for each other. Bitter evil will try to destroy them. This book is a roller coaster ride of highs and lows with a sprinkling of comedic relief. Hopefully, the ending will surprise you. The author compares this novel to Steven King's title "The Stand" where good verses evil and the eventual battle except; "He awaits you" is on steroids.

Book Jim Morrison s Adventures in the Afterlife

Download or read book Jim Morrison s Adventures in the Afterlife written by Mick Farren and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 1999-12-10 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part devil, part angel, the specter of Jim Morrison has haunted America's consciousness since his premature death in 1971. His spirit seemed dark, and the graphic despair of his Lizard King persona reigned supreme in his lifetime, but Jim Morrison died with a smile on his face. Was his journey through the afterlife as tumultuous as his journey through life? This is the question Mick Farren answers in his fascinatingly complex novel based on one of the twentieth century's most enigmatic figures. Jim Morrison's Adventures in the Afterlife picks up the story of Morrison as he hurtles through a purgatory-like afterlife in search of some way to bring his soul to peace. Along the way he finds Doc Holliday--and together they find themselves chasing the restless fire-and-brimstone evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson, whose soul has broken after death into two warring halves. McPherson's sexier half becomes the object of Jim's obsession, and as the two struggle to find each other in this disordered land, their wild, careening chase through a dozen dystopiae recalls imagined worlds as diverse as Burgess's A Clockwork Orange or Terry Gilliam's Brazil. This is a daring, hilarious romp through the landfill of millennial society. Possessed of an imagination that rivals that of any of our edgiest fantasists, steeped in the detritus and ephemera of three decades of pop culture, Mick Farren has crafted in this new novel a bizarre and compelling fantasia.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a desire to be used by God as His instrument to bring wounded souls into wholeness through the shed blood of His Son Jesus, by sharing our brokenness with others. We feel sorrowful but blessed when we discover that God can use all things together for the good of those who love Him. Marilyn Hansen is one to encourage others, while struggling to believe that God could make something beautiful out of her own brokenness. Being obedient to God's call, she writes about how He made the broken pieces of her life whole for His glory. It was as though God were saying, "Marilyn, how do you think the world has seen Me? If it wasn't for your brokenness, I couldn't make you whole. I chose you just the way you are. I have allowed you to be broken to make you whole. Be filled with My Spirit. I only ask that you pour yourself out that others might be made whole." As I look back on my life, I feel very blessed that God could take the broken pieces and use them as a testament of His healing power. I wish He had not had to sacrifice His Son for me, but know I also am a sinner in need of His grace. I wish I had known Him earlier in my life, so I could be obedient to Him and fulfill His plan for my life. But by His grace, He has enabled me to be His servant by ministering to other wounded souls through which I can bring honor and glory to Him. He has taken the broken pieces of my life and made something beautiful for His use. His grace is sufficient in meeting my needs and yours. Let us allow Him to use us that He might be glorified by our willingness to be obedient to Him and fulfilling all He has called us to be. Will you allow God to make you Broken Unto Wholeness so He can take you on a journey that others will see and desire to let Him be seen in you? Your life does make a difference because of how He is glorified in your brokenness.

Book Discourses of the Elders The Aztec Huehuetlatolli A First English Translation

Download or read book Discourses of the Elders The Aztec Huehuetlatolli A First English Translation written by and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2023-08-29 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A dazzlingly fresh take on universal themes.… [B]ursting with practical wisdom.” —Skye C. Cleary, author of How to Be Authentic A philosophy grounded not in a transcendent divinity, afterlife, or individualism, but in a rooted communal life. Western philosophers have long claimed that God, if such a being exists, is a personal force capable of reason, and that the path to a good human life is also the path to a happy one. But what if these claims prove false, or at least deeply misleading? The Aztecs of central Mexico had a rich philosophical tradition, recorded in Latin script by Spanish clergymen and passed down for centuries in the native Nahuatl language—one of the earliest transcripts being the Huehuetlatolli, or Discourses of the Elders, compiled by Friar Andrés de Olmos circa 1535. Novel in its form, the Discourses consists of short conversations between elders and young people on how to achieve a meaningful and morally sound life. The Aztecs had a metaphysical tradition but no concept of “being.” They considered the mind an embodied force, present not just in the brain but throughout the body. Their core values relied on collective responsibility and group wisdom, not individual thought and action, orienting life around one’s actions in this realm rather than an afterlife, distinctly opposed to the Christian beliefs that permeate Europe and America. Sebastian Purcell’s fluency in his grandmother’s native Nahuatl brings to light the Aztec ethical landscape in brilliant clarity. Never before translated into English in its entirety, and one of the earliest post-contact texts ever recorded, Discourses of the Elders reflects the wisdom communicated by oral tradition and proves that philosophy can be active, communal, and grounded not in a “pursuit of happiness” but rather the pursuit of a meaningful life.
