Book Hawker Siddeley Aviation and Dynamics

Download or read book Hawker Siddeley Aviation and Dynamics written by Stephen Skinner and published by Crowood. This book was released on 2014-07-31 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hawker Siddeley's history can be traced back to 1912 and the formation of the Sopwith Aviation Company by Tom Sopwith which metamorphosed into Hawker Aircraft after World War One. In 1934-35, Gloster, Avro, Armstrong Siddeley, Armstrong Whitworth and others were taken over to create the Hawker Siddeley Group. The Group built some of the most important aircraft and missiles of the 1960s, 1970s and beyond; its best-known products included the Harrier, Buccaneer, Nimrod and Hawk warplanes, Sea Dart missile and HS748 airliner. Its collaborative projects included the European Airbus and various satellite programmes. Hawker Siddeley was subsumed into British Aerospace in 1977, but some of its products still remain in service to this day. This is their story. Illustrated with over 400 colour and black & white photographs, many of them previously unpublished.

Book Airliner Models

  • Author : Anthony J Lawler
  • Publisher : The Crowood Press
  • Release : 2019-10-08
  • ISBN : 1785006347
  • Pages : 1360 pages

Download or read book Airliner Models written by Anthony J Lawler and published by The Crowood Press. This book was released on 2019-10-08 with total page 1360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For most of the past century, beautiful models of airliners have been made to promote their airlines' services in travel agents and their own shops. The models also illustrate the evolution of airliner design over these decades: the wood and fabric biplanes of the 1920s, the broad adoption of all-metal airliners in the 1930s, the first jet airliners of the 1950s, the first wide-body airliners of the 1970s and the pioneering small steps in supersonic air travel are all covered. The increasingly colourful exterior schemes adopted by the airlines, to ensure recognition by aspiring passengers, provide an interesting subtext. For model collectors, the airliner type, makers name, scale, approximate age and the materials used are detailed for each model illustrated. A short history of significant model-making companies is covered. With the onset of online bookings and the closure of airline offices and travel agents, the use of models is fast vanishing forever. The focus of this book is to preserve this fascinating era when models were a significant marketing tool, and to ensure that these models, at least in photographic form, survive as a record for future generations.

Book Shadows of Flight

Download or read book Shadows of Flight written by Richard Jenkins and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-09-06 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After eight years of short-service commission in the Royal Navy, flying the latest supersonic jet fighter from the deck of an aircraft carrier, the writer moved to a new challengethat of starting a farm in the wilds of the African bush in Northern Rhodesia, or the dreaded Black North. After nearly twenty years as a successful farmer growing crops of tobacco and maize while ranching cattle on an adjoining farm, he returned to the commercial-flying world as a charter pilot. His career ended as a training captain with an airline, flying BAC 1-11 aircraft around the sunny Mediterranean. This is the story of an ordinary individual named Richard Jenkins whose philosophy in life is this: With Gods help, anyone can do anything. This philosophy stood him in good stead throughout his life, whether being catapulted from aircraft carriers, bracing against the winds of change blowing over the farming area of Mkushi in the newly independent African state of Zambia, or trekking up to eighteen thousand feet in the Himalayas. This book, written in an easy, descriptive style, takes the reader on a long, unusual, and fascinating story of his experiences, which have not ended yet.

Book Hawker Siddeley Aviation Aircraft Advertisements 1963 1977

Download or read book Hawker Siddeley Aviation Aircraft Advertisements 1963 1977 written by David Robinson and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2024-05-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although founded in 1934 to pool the resources of its constituent companies the Hawker Siddeley name was not used to 'brand' aircraft until 1963. Prior to this aircraft were produced under the name of the subsidiary company e.g. Hawker P1127, Armstrong Whitworth Argosy, Avro 748 etc. By 1978 Hawker Siddeley was absorbed into the nationalised British Aerospace (BAe) organisation and the legacy aircraft 'branding' changed for the final time. The Hawker Siddeley Group was involved in multiple aerospace and industrial businesses validating their strapline 'The largest aerospace group in Europe', however in this compilation only the aircraft advertisements of Hawker Siddeley Aviation from 1963 to 1977 are included. Adverts for Hawker Siddeley aircraft types include the HS 748 / Andover, HS 125, HS Harrier, HS Argosy, HS Trident, HS Buccaneer, HS Gnat, HS Hawk, HS Vulcan, HS Nimrod, HS 146 & Airbus. These adverts are particularly engaging and should appeal to aviation historians and enthusiasts alike. As always in this series the adverts are reproduced at one per page, in chronological order without narrative but annotated with the date of original publication and the record number from the Aviation Ancestry master database. To keep production costs down the images are reproduced in greyscale which in many cases was the original format. Where the original was published in full colour the image is annotated accordingly. This was a period of rapid advances in aerospace technology and the resources required to compete in the marketplace spelt the end of many of the most celebrated names in British aviation history as individual entities although their enterprise and expertise endures for all to see. Through this unique timeline let the adverts tell the story of this once great aviation enterprise.
