Book Hark It s Harold the Angel Singing

Download or read book Hark It s Harold the Angel Singing written by Lynn Gayle and published by Linda Mooney. This book was released on 2022-12-12 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, but Leyland Scott is down in the dumps. It’s his first Christmas since losing his mom, it’s possible his job of over twenty years is about to be axed, and he just can’t find it in himself to care about anything really. Except for one thing—Lynette who works at the coffee shop. She’s the only bright spot in his day. Lynette is fairly new in town, having made the move to the big city a few months ago to find herself. She’s struggling to make ends meet but she’s determined to prove she can make it. During that short time, she’s become interested in Leyland, who frequents the coffee shop. And when he finally asks her out, she’s skeptical at first but agrees, only to discover she’s happy she did. The two have a common concern when they hear the wildly enthusiastic, if a bit (all right, a lot) out of tune Christmas carols being belted out by an underdressed kid wearing angel wings and no shoes. It’s freezing outside, with snow covering the ground, but the boy appears unfazed and continues merrily singing his heart out in front of passersby. No one knows who the kid is, but Harold, as they end up naming him, seems to know them all. Normally not a religious man, Leyland has a change in spirit. The angel boy seems to deliver a message, letting him know this is his opportunity for a fresh start. He’s told when one door closes, another door opens. Perhaps God, with the help of Harold, has opened that door. If that’s true, Leyland is ready to go through it with Lynette. It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Maybe it’s also time for a new beginning for them both.

Book Hark and Harold Angel Sing

Download or read book Hark and Harold Angel Sing written by Phillip Martin and published by . This book was released on 2023-01-24 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this story, two angels are the best of friends. They've been that way since anyone can remember. And, the friendship has helped them both. Hark was extremely shy. He never spoke in public. He only whispered his thoughts to Harold. Harold, not in the least bit shy, blew his horn -- loud and long -- whenever Hark had anything to say. There was just one problem. Harold was terrible with the horn. There was nothing joyful about his noise. But, as the years passed, changes occurred. And, it's those changes that created this memorable story about friendship. Just like with my previous book, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy - All the Days of My Life, this story was inspired by a sermon. In a talk about angels, my pastor talked about how kids say the darndest things. (If that reminds you of Art Linkletter, you know you are old.) Anyway, one little boy said he only knew the names of two angels, Hark and Harold. Hey, you never know when or where inspiration for a book is going to strike. I knew immediately that there was a story there. I love the main theme of this book. Hopefully, we all have people in our lives who support us, believe in us, and encourage us along the way. Neither Hark nor Harold would have reached their full potential if the other hadn't believed in them. My Hark, or Harold, was always my mother who believed in my art for as long as I can ber. When I look at my early drawings, I'm not sure how that was possible. Anyway, this particular book has what I consider the best illustrations out of all of my books, so far.

Book American Cinema of the 1930s

Download or read book American Cinema of the 1930s written by Ina Rae Hark and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2007-06-21 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Probably no decade saw as many changes in the Hollywood film industry and its product as the 1930s did. At the beginning of the decade, the industry was still struggling with the transition to talking pictures. Gangster films and naughty comedies starring Mae West were popular in urban areas, but aroused threats of censorship in the heartland. Whether the film business could survive the economic effects of the Crash was up in the air. By 1939, popularly called "Hollywood's Greatest Year," films like Gone With the Wind and The Wizard of Oz used both color and sound to spectacular effect, and remain American icons today. The "mature oligopoly" that was the studio system had not only weathered the Depression and become part of mainstream culture through the establishment and enforcement of the Production Code, it was a well-oiled, vertically integrated industrial powerhouse. The ten original essays in American Cinema of the 1930s focus on sixty diverse films of the decade, including Dracula, The Public Enemy, Trouble in Paradise, 42nd Street, King Kong, Imitation of Life, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Swing Time, Angels with Dirty Faces, Nothing Sacred, Jezebel, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and Stagecoach .
