Book Handbook of Nanoscience Engineering and Technology Third Edition

Download or read book Handbook of Nanoscience Engineering and Technology Third Edition written by William A. Goddard III and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-06-12 with total page 1097 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his 1959 address, "There is Plenty of Room at the Bottom," Richard P. Feynman speculated about manipulating materials atom by atom and challenged the technical community "to find ways of manipulating and controlling things on a small scale." This visionary challenge has now become a reality, with recent advances enabling atomistic-level tailoring and control of materials. Exemplifying Feynman’s vision, Handbook of Nanoscience, Engineering, and Technology, Third Edition continues to explore innovative nanoscience, engineering, and technology areas. Along with updating all chapters, this third edition extends the coverage of emerging nano areas even further. Two entirely new sections on energy and biology cover nanomaterials for energy storage devices, photovoltaics, DNA devices and assembly, digital microfluidic lab-on-a-chip, and much more. This edition also includes new chapters on nanomagnet logic, quantum transport at the nanoscale, terahertz emission from Bloch oscillator systems, molecular logic, electronic optics in graphene, and electromagnetic metamaterials. With contributions from top scientists and researchers from around the globe, this color handbook presents a unified, up-to-date account of the most promising technologies and developments in the nano field. It sets the stage for the next revolution of nanoscale manufacturing—where scalable technologies are used to manufacture large numbers of devices with complex functionalities.

Book Computational Nanotechnology

Download or read book Computational Nanotechnology written by Sarith P. Sathian and published by CRC PressI Llc. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book introduces the concepts and methodology of modified and discrete computational approaches to solve problems related to the micro and nanoscale domain. As physical phenomena and properties of materials are affected by the size of the structure at such small sizes, conventional approaches based on the continuum modeling will not be capable of tackling the physical problems. There are various methods of anaysis useful for this purpose, which will be dealt with and explained in the book, with examples.

Book Theory of Quantum Transport at Nanoscale

Download or read book Theory of Quantum Transport at Nanoscale written by Dmitry Ryndyk and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-27 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to a rapidly developing field of modern theoretical physics – the theory of quantum transport at nanoscale. The theoretical methods considered in the book are in the basis of our understanding of charge, spin and heat transport in nanostructures and nanostructured materials and are widely used in nanoelectronics, molecular electronics, spin-dependent electronics (spintronics) and bio-electronics. The book is based on lectures for graduate and post-graduate students at the University of Regensburg and the Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden). The first part is devoted to the basic concepts of quantum transport: Landauer-Büttiker method and matrix Green function formalism for coherent transport, Tunneling (Transfer) Hamiltonian and master equation methods for tunneling, Coulomb blockade, vibrons and polarons. The results in this part are obtained as possible without sophisticated techniques, such as nonequilibrium Green functions, which are considered in detail in the second part. A general introduction into the nonequilibrium Green function theory is given. The approach based on the equation-of-motion technique, as well as more sophisticated one based on the Dyson-Keldysh diagrammatic technique are presented. The main attention is paid to the theoretical methods able to describe the nonequilibrium (at finite voltage) electron transport through interacting nanosystems, specifically the correlation effects due to electron-electron and electron-vibron interactions.

Book Detection of Pathogens in Water Using Micro and Nano Technology

This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detection of Pathogens in Water Using Micro and Nano-Technology aims to promote the uptake of innovative micro and nano-technological approaches towards the development of an integrated, cost-effective nano-biological sensor useful for security and environmental assays. The book describes the concerted efforts of a large European research project and the achievements of additional leading research groups. The reported knowledge and expertise should support in the innovation and integration of often separated unitary processes. Sampling, cell lysis and DNA/RNA extraction, DNA hybridisation detection micro- and nanosensors, microfluidics, together also with computational modelling and risk assessment can be integrated in the framework of the current and evolving European regulations and needs. The development and uptake of molecular methods is revolutionizing the field of waterborne pathogens detection, commonly performed with time-consuming cultural methods. The molecular detection methods are enabling the development of integrated instruments based on biosensor that will ultimately automate the full pathway of the microbiological analysis of water.
