Book Examining Stereotypes and Parenting Behaviours of South Asian Heritage Parents Discourse and Case Studies

Download or read book Examining Stereotypes and Parenting Behaviours of South Asian Heritage Parents Discourse and Case Studies written by Bhandari, Renu and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2024-06-17 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the field of academic scholarship, the study of parenting has been extensive, yet it has often been unable to capture the full essence of this complex endeavor. The existing literature has often confined itself to the boundaries of individual disciplines. This limitation has hindered our understanding of the intricate interplay between these aspects and the values and beliefs that guide parenting. Furthermore, in the context of South Asian parents in the UK, the existing research has typically focused on parents from East and Southeast Asia, often leaving the unique experiences of South Asian parents overlooked. Examining Stereotypes and Parenting Behaviors of Asian Heritage Parents: Discourse and Case Studies offers a pioneering solution to this problem. It represents a groundbreaking initiative to break free from the constraints of traditional research methodologies and provide an unfiltered, in-depth look at the real narratives of South Asian parents in the UK. By weaving together the psychological, emotional, social, and cultural dimensions of parenting, this book uncovers a holistic view of this complex journey, one that transcends the limitations of sociology, psychology, or cultural studies. It does not aim to solve problems but rather seeks to capture authentic "family stories" and parenting experiences directly from the voices of the parents themselves.

Book Global Politics Political Participation and the Rise of Nationalism Emerging Research and Opportunities

Download or read book Global Politics Political Participation and the Rise of Nationalism Emerging Research and Opportunities written by Stacey, Emily and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-01-08 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nationalist movements remain a force in contemporary American politics, regardless of political party. Recently, social issues have moved to the forefront of American society, and civilian participation in activism is at an all time high. The nationalism that the world started to experience pre-2016, but much more intently post-2016, has impacted international alliances, global strategies, and threatened the fragile stability that had been established in the post-September 11th world. Major political events in more recent times, such as the American election, have brought social issues into stark focus along with placing a spotlight on politics and nationalism in general. Thus, there is an updated need for research on the most current advances and information on nationalism, social movements, and activism in modern times. Global Politics, Political Participation, and the Rise of Nationalism: Emerging Research and Opportunities discusses the ways in which nationalism and nationalist ideologies have permeated throughout America and the international community. This work considers the rise of neo-nationalism stemming from the Tea Party in the United States, Brexit and the era of the Tory Divorce from Europe, contemporary electoral politics that are helping in the spread of nationalist policies and leaders (providing a normalization of policies that are sometimes anti-democratic), the 2020 resurgence of Black Lives Matter after the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, and the role of the coronavirus pandemic in helping to shape the world order to come. This book will be ideal for activists, politicians, lawyers, political science professors and researchers, international relations and comparative politics professors and students, practitioners, policymakers, researchers, academicians, and anyone interested in the current state of global politics, nationalism, and activism in political participation.

Book Investigating the Impact of AI on Ethics and Spirituality

Download or read book Investigating the Impact of AI on Ethics and Spirituality written by Chakraborty, Swati and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-10-04 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Artificial intelligence (AI) is beginning to appear in everything from writing, social media, and business to wartime or intelligence strategy. With so many applications in our everyday lives and in the systems that run them, many are demanding that ethical implications are considered before any one application of AI goes too far and causes irreparable damage to the personal data or operations of individuals, governments, and organizations. For instance, AI that is fed data sets that are influenced by human data collection method biases may be perpetuating societal biases with implicit bias that can create serious consequences. Applications of AI with implicit bias on recidivism prediction models as well as medical algorithms have shown biases against certain racial or ethnic groups, leading to actual discrimination in treatment by the legal system and the medical systems. Regulatory groups may identify the bias in AI but not the source of the bias, making it difficult to determine who to hold accountable. Lack of dataset and programming transparency can be problematic when AI systems are used to make significant decisions, and as AI systems become more advanced, questions arise regarding responsibility for the results of their implementation and the regulation thereof. Research on how these applications of AI are affecting interpersonal and societal relationships is important for informing much-needed regulatory policies. Investigating the Impact of AI on Ethics and Spirituality focuses on the spiritual implications of AI and its increasing presence in society. As AI technology advances, it raises fundamental questions about our spiritual relationship with technology. This study emphasizes the need to examine the ethical considerations of AI through a spiritual lens and to consider how spiritual principles can inform its development and use. This book covers topics such as data collection, ethical issues, and AI and is ideal for educators, teacher trainees, policymakers, academicians, researchers, curriculum developers, higher-level students, social activists, and government officials.
