Book Modern Hot Atom Chemistry and Its Applications

Download or read book Modern Hot Atom Chemistry and Its Applications written by T. Tominaga and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hot-atom chemistry is a unique field of chemistry dealing with highly excited chemical species resulting from nuclear reactions or radioactive decay processes. Modern hot-atom chemistry includes a broad range of disciplines such as fundamental studies from physical chemistry of gas-phase energetic reactions to inorganic solid-state chemistry, as well as recent practical applications in life sciences and energy-related research. In spite of the importance of hot-atom chemistry and its appli cations, its relevance to the other fields of chemistry and related disciplines has attracted little attention and only books and review articles for dedicated hot-atom chemists have been published to date. In this volume, we illustrate the essential aspects of modern hot-atom chemistry for non-specialists, with considerable emphasis on its applications in the related fields. We sincerely hope that this volume can promote mutual understanding and collaboration between hot-atom chemists and researchers in other disciplines. After a brief introduction (Chap. 1) the 2nd chapter gives the non-specialist an idea of experimental techniques commonly used for the production and analysis of hot chemical species. In Chap. 3, we have explained the concepts of hot-atom reac tions in gas, liquid and solid phases with typical examples rather than a comprehensive review of the literature. In view of the current state of accomplishment, the greater part of this chapter is concerned with gas phase studies. Regarding the solid-phase hot atom chemistry, we have confined ourselves only to introducing new concepts and discussing modern aspects.

Book Atomic Theory and Structure of the Atom

Download or read book Atomic Theory and Structure of the Atom written by T. A. H. Peacocke and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atomic and Nuclear Chemistry, Volume 1: Atomic Theory and Structure of the Atom presents the modern ideas of the atomic theory and atomic structure against the background of their historical development. Topics covered include the classification of elements; atoms and electrons; the wave mechanical model of the atom; and the determination of atomic weights. This volume is comprised of six chapters and begins by discussing the origin of the atomic theory, focusing on the role of John Dalton, Avogadro's hypothesis, and the introduction to the laws of chemical combination. The chapters that follow look at the work of the early scientists that led to the development of the periodic table of elements; the use of the Avogadro number to determine the actual masses of atoms and molecules; and the structure of the atom. The essential results of the simple wave mechanical treatment are summarized in the next chapter. This book concludes by considering developments in the determination of atomic weights. Some brief notes on the character and personality of the great scientists who are mentioned throughout the text are included. This book is intended for students and practitioners in the fields of chemistry and physics.

Book Fundamentals of Radiochemistry

Download or read book Fundamentals of Radiochemistry written by Jean-Pierre Adloff and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-01-18 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Radiochemistry presents a comprehensive overview of the principles, objectives, and methods of radiochemistry and how they are applied in various fields of chemistry. Topics covered include characteristics of radioactivity and radioactive matter, the chemistry of ephemeral radionuclides, actinides of high atomic number, positronium, and physicochemical behavior of systems containing one or more compounds at tracer or sub-tracer concentration. Numerous appendices are included to provide additional detail to information presented in chapters. Because Fundamentals of Radiochemistry is the first book to discuss what chemical information can be obtained with sub-tracer amounts, it is essential reading for inorganic chemists, radiochemists, analytical chemists, nuclear chemists and others interested in the topic.

This book was released on 2007-02-05 with total page 1505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprises a comprehensive reference source that unifies the entire fields of atomic molecular and optical (AMO) physics, assembling the principal ideas, techniques and results of the field. 92 chapters written by about 120 authors present the principal ideas, techniques and results of the field, together with a guide to the primary research literature (carefully edited to ensure a uniform coverage and style, with extensive cross-references). Along with a summary of key ideas, techniques, and results, many chapters offer diagrams of apparatus, graphs, and tables of data. From atomic spectroscopy to applications in comets, one finds contributions from over 100 authors, all leaders in their respective disciplines. Substantially updated and expanded since the original 1996 edition, it now contains several entirely new chapters covering current areas of great research interest that barely existed in 1996, such as Bose-Einstein condensation, quantum information, and cosmological variations of the fundamental constants. A fully-searchable CD- ROM version of the contents accompanies the handbook.
