Download or read book Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring written by Roger K. Freeman and published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. This book was released on 2012-09-26 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fetal heart rate monitoring affects the lives of millions of women and infants every year in the United States alone. Used by all members of the obstetric team - nurses, students, midwives, and physicians – it is the primary method to assess fetal oxygenation in both the antepartum and intrapartum setting. Improving outcomes and promoting patient safety depends upon correct use and interpretation of fetal heart rate monitoring, and is crucial to daily obstetric practice. This fourth edition provides the obstetrical team a framework within which to interpret and understand fetal heart rate tracings and their implications. The text covers key issues as the physiological basis for monitoring, a discussion of fetal hypoxemia and neonatal encephalopathy, instrumentation and pattern recognition. In addition to an in-depth review of the standardized NICHD nomenclature and three-tiered FHR Category approach, there are chapters on intrapartum and antepartum management as well as fetal central nervous system effects on monitor patterns. Since fetal monitoring is primarily a screening tool there are also discussions on the use of backup methods for evaluation of abnormal patterns. This 4th edition also brings the addition of Lisa A. Miller CNM, JD, who provides a nursing and midwifery perspective as well an enhanced legal and risk management review. This new fourth edition includes: Review of neonatal encephalopathy and recent studies on CP Currentinformation and discussion of most recent NICHD panel recommendations, both antepartum and intrapartum New chapter on Pitfalls in EFM Detailed chapter on risk management, liability & documentation New section on fetal maternal hemorrhage Update on new instrumentation Crucial information on maternal/fetal coincidence and FDA warnings All chapters include updated practice tips and clinical implications for the entire obstetric team Plus, with this edition clinicians have access to a companion website with full text and an image bank for fast & simplified clinical review.

Book Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring

Download or read book Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring written by Ingemar Ingemarsson and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1993 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The benefit of fetal heart rate monitoring during labor is the subject of fierce debate. This practical guide is an updated edition of the original work by the Ingemarssons, and has been adapted for an international audience by John Spencer. The book is written in the belief that correct use and interpretation of the technique is of vital importance in establishing its value in surveillance. The authors first discuss the physiological mechanisms influencing fetal heart rate and the general principles of monitoring. They then describe the patterns found in a range of clinical situations, using numerous illustrations of traces to aid recognition and interpretation. Throughout, the book draws upon up-to-date research findings as well as the authors' personal experience to encourage rational use of the technique. This is an ideal introductory text to the practice of fetal heart rate monitoring which will be of value to obstetricians, midwives, and all staff on the maternity unit.

Download or read book Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring written by Wolfgang Künzel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past decade fetal heart rate monitoring has become a generally ac cepted method for fetal surveillance during pregnancy and labor. Although its importance has been doubted recently, I personally feel that this method has become an important obstetric tool. It has not only improved our knowledge about fetal behavior and fetal condition throughout gesta tion, but it has especially improved fetal surveillance during labor; the most dangerous period of human life has never been as safe as nowadays. The only people who can question the advantage of fetal heart rate moni toring are those who did not experience the period before fetal heart rate monitoring was generally introduced. The first paper on the history of fetal heart rate monitoring takes us back to the beginning of fetal surveillance and provides an introduction to the different aspects of fetal observation which are covered later in this volume. Common practices of fetal surveillance in different countries are discussed, and the paths that future developments will take are suggested. An outline of the physiological aspects of fetal heart rate regulation is fol lowed by discussion of the pathophysiology with which the obstetrician is very often confronted.
