Download or read book Handbook of Criminal Law Classic Reprint written by William Lawrence Clark Jr and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Handbook of Criminal Law IN preparing a new edition of Mr. Clark's book, no depar ture from the original plan of the author has been made. The book is intended, as explained in the preface to the first edi tion, to contain a concise, but full, statement of the general principles of the criminal law, exclusive of criminal proce dure, which has been made the subject of a separate volume in the Hornbook Series by the same author. The editor has incorporated much new matter, which has necessitated chang es in the original text, and has made other changes which were suggested to him by a use of the book in the classroom. Many additional cases, most of them reported since the first edi tion, but some of them earlier leading cases, have been cited. Book The Oxford Handbook of Criminal Law

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Criminal Law written by Markus D Dubber and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2014-11-27 with total page 1294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Handbook of Criminal Law reflects the continued transformation of criminal law into a global discipline, providing scholars with a comprehensive international resource, a common point of entry into cutting edge contemporary research and a snapshot of the state and scope of the field. To this end, the Handbook takes a broad approach to its subject matter, disciplinarily, geographically, and systematically. Its contributors include current and future research leaders representing a variety of legal systems, methodologies, areas of expertise, and research agendas. The Handbook is divided into four parts: Approaches & Methods (I), Systems & Methods (II), Aspects & Issues (III), and Contexts & Comparisons (IV). Part I includes essays exploring various methodological approaches to criminal law (such as criminology, feminist studies, and history). Part II provides an overview of systems or models of criminal law, laying the foundation for further inquiry into specific conceptions of criminal law as well as for comparative analysis (such as Islamic, Marxist, and military law). Part III covers the three aspects of the penal process: the definition of norms and principles of liability (substantive criminal law), along with a less detailed treatment of the imposition of norms (criminal procedure) and the infliction of sanctions (prison law). Contributors consider the basic topics traditionally addressed in scholarship on the general and special parts of the substantive criminal law (such as jurisdiction, mens rea, justifications, and excuses). Part IV places criminal law in context, both domestically and transnationally, by exploring the contrasts between criminal law and other species of law and state power and by investigating criminal law's place in the projects of comparative law, transnational, and international law.

Book A Manual of Criminal Law as Established in the State of Maryland Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Manual of Criminal Law as Established in the State of Maryland Classic Reprint written by Lewis Hochheimer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-25 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Criminal Law, as Established in the State of Maryland The primary design of the following pages is, to present, in a succinct and systematic mode, the common-law prin ciples and statutory provisions constituting the criminal law as established in Il'laryland. It has however, been deemed expedient, in various portions of the work, to sup plement the statements of law drawn from the sources re ferred to by references to and citations of well-settled principles and established doctrines found in the works of standard text-writers, well-considered decisions in other courts than our own and instructive discussions in leading law periodicals. To have given the whole body of the statute law would have swelled the work to such undesir able preportions, that it was deemed well to give the full text of only such statutory provisions, as, it is believed, will be found most useful in criminal trials and references to the others. It is earnestly hoped by the author, that he has succeeded in thus furnisliinga useful guide and help to practitioners and others interested in the adminis tration and study of the criminal law in this State. Download or read book Our Criminal Criminal Law Classic Reprint written by Samuel Crawford Denson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Our Criminal Criminal Law This is a day of progress, reform, amendment and change. Whether the changes made in the things and processes we have been accustomed to will all result in benefit may well be doubted and the test of time and experience alone can determine, but that many amendments and corrections brought about by the present almost universal desire to review the past and enact new regulations for future conduct will ameliorate our political conditions is evident. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Criminal Law, Vol. 1: Instruction Paper If the party defrauded is also guilty of a violation of the law, he, too, should be prosecuted, rather than his offense should serve as a shield to the other's crime. The offense is committed against the public, and not against the individual. The guilty party is prosecuted in the interest of the people of the state, and not in the interest of the party defrauded of his property. There is no principle of law that will bar the state from prosecuting a criminal because some other person is a particeps criminis. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Outlines of Criminal Law, for Use of Students Whatever may be thought of the advantages or defects of the plan of giving instruction by oral lectures, there seemed to be no other course to pursue in reference to this subject, for the treatises on criminal law are too voluminous, to say nothing of their cost, for use in a course where but a portion of the time for not more than three weeks can be given to the study, and the smaller works which have been written, in general devote too large a portion of their space to discussing. Particular crimes, many of which are of comparatively small importance and regulated by statute, and give too little attention to those principles which are applicable to all crimes.
