Book Epoxy Adhesive Formulations

Download or read book Epoxy Adhesive Formulations written by Edward M. Petrie and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 2005-09-30 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unmodified, epoxy resins cause certain problems for both the adhesive formulator and end-user. They are often rigid and brittle; hence, impact resistance and peel strength are poor. For decades, Chemist have been vigorously working to minimize these major shortcomings. Based on a popular course sponsored by the Society of Plastics Engineers and written by an authority in the field, this comprehensive text presents a variety of methods to accomplish what up to now has been a formidable task. Beginning with epoxy chemistry, moving on to fillers, filler treatments, and surfactants, and ending with current and future development in formulating Epoxy Adhesives, this rigorous text addressed the problem of improving flexibility, durability and strength by adding chemical groups to the epoxy structure either via the base resin or the curing agent or by adding separate flexibilizing resins to the formulation to create an epoxy-hybrid adhesive.

Book Adhesion and Adhesives

Download or read book Adhesion and Adhesives written by Anthony J. Kinloch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last decade, or so, the growth in the use of adhesives, especially in ever more technically demanding applications, has been rapid and many major developments in the technology of adhesives have been reported. This growth has also led to attention being focused on somewhat more basic studies of the science of adhesion and adhesives, and in recent years our level of fundamental knowledge concerning the formation and mechanical performance of adhesive joints has increased dramatically. Such studies have, of course, been aided greatly by the development of the tools at the disposal of the investigators. For example, specific surface analytical techniques, such as X-ray photoelectron and secondary-ion mass spectroscopy, and the increasingly sophisticated methods of stress analysis and fracture mechanics have been put to good use in furthering our understanding of the science of adhesion and adhesives. The present book attempts to review the multidisciplined subject of adhesion and adhesives, considering both the science and technology involved in the formation and mechanical performance of adhesive joints. The author would like to thank his friends and colleagues for useful discus sions and help in the preparation of this book. I am particularly grateful to P. Cawley, J. Comyn, W. A. Lees, A. C. Roulin-Moloney, W. C. Wake, J. G. Williams and R. J. Young who have read and commented on various chapters and P. Farr for preparing the diagrams.

Book Adhesives Formulary Handbook

Download or read book Adhesives Formulary Handbook written by NIIR Board and published by ASIA PACIFIC BUSINESS PRESS Inc.. This book was released on 2010-02-10 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adhesives surround us in nature and in our daily lives. Adhesive, or glue, is a mixture in a liquid or semi liquid state that is capable of holding materials together by surface attachment. An adhesive is a compound that adheres or bonds two items together so as to form a single unit. Adhesives may come from either natural or synthetic sources. Adhesives and sealants virtually touch every part of our lives. Some modern adhesives are extremely strong, and are becoming increasingly important in modern construction and industry. A large and growing number of adhesives are available in the market. Adhesives for this growing market range from the simplest glues and mucilages for furniture making and repair, to metal to metal bonding for frame construction. There is no end in sight to the new materials, new formulation, and new uses to which adhesives will be put in the future. Formulations generally are compounded to satisfy a special need or needs. Therefore, uniformity of neither product nor end use exists. Applicators of different adhesives are designed according to the adhesive being used and the size of the area to which the adhesive will be applied. The adhesive is applied to either one or both of the materials being bonded. The pieces are aligned and pressure is added to aid in adhesion and rid the bond of air bubbles. Adhesives are of great use across innumerable industrial and commercial applications. Some of the fundamentals of the book are water based industrial type adhesives, home construction and related adhesives, water based wallpaper adhesive, fabric adhesives, water based adhesive for bonding non woven fabric to non woven fabric by knife coating, film adhesives, water based food packing adhesive for bonding, flocking adhesives, foam adhesives, water based adhesive for bonding urethane, industrial adhesives, bag seam and bottom paste adhesives, solid fiber, fiberboard and corrugated board adhesives, packaging adhesives etc. This indispensable book contains numerous essential adhesive formularies distinguished by application. This book will be an invaluable resource to its readers, upcoming entrepreneurs, scientists, existing industries, technical institutions, etc.
