Book Half the Man Twice the Faith

Download or read book Half the Man Twice the Faith written by Cindy Woods and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-01-30 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At 538 pounds, Rick Salewske lived a small life that consisted of his job, his house, and his car—and he was very close to no longer fitting into his car. His stomach rubbing on the steering wheel had already worn a threadbare line across his pants. Often ridiculed by total strangers, he felt humiliated and very much alone. Rick had been raised in a traditional Catholic family, but his relationship with God was more of a distant, respectful belief than an up-close and personal experience. He couldn’t fit into a church pew and most definitely not into a confessional booth. What Rick didn’t know was that even then, God was actively pursuing him, even when Rick was not pursuing God at all. When Rick’s weight cost him a chance at his dream job, God would lead him on a journey that would reach the mountaintops of national television appearances and even the New York Marathon, but his own poor choices would plunge him back down to a valley leading nowhere. It was in that valley that Rick eventually looked up and recognized God’s hand in his life. When he learned to keep his eyes on God, the life God intended him to lead finally came into focus. His path was not always smooth or straight. But learning to put his full trust in the Lord led Rick to be less than half and more than twice the man he used to be.

Throughout his childhood, George learned to rely on advice from his grandmother and her brother to help him navigate through the challenges of growing up. But everything changed the day his great uncle unexpectedly gave him the title to his beloved houseboat and asked him to transform it into a clubhouse for local boys. In a life story that he proclaims is sixty-seven percent true, George leads others down an amusing path through his memories as he plays on his inherited houseboat, learns about girls, and meets a lively band of characters that include Captain Prunes Percy, Woodchuck Monoe, Flashlight Fulton, and Cowboy Unmanly. As he details his move into adolescence and beyond, George provides a glimpse into a life full of adventure and his determined pursuit to keep his uncles dream alive. In this fictionalized memoir, one man chronicles his unique, often humorous coming-of-age journey through life as he grows up, attempts to find his place in the world, and contemplates whether he can really ever go back in time to his enchanted boyhood!

Book Once a Man Twice a Boy

Download or read book Once a Man Twice a Boy written by Claude Banks and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Open this book and read whatever chapter appears and you will be transported back in time – Tardis style – into village life around Pertenhall and Kimbolton over the last 80 years. You will immediately become part of the scene. Claude Banks treats readers to a rich potpourri of stories of village life with a wicked eye for detail… Feel the austerity of the agricultural depression leading up to World War 2. Giggle at the exploits of the local cricketers and footballers; we imagine we are in Claude's classroom at Kimbolton Grammar School in the late 1930s. Stories are told with understated humour, including his recollections of service in the Home Guard under the command of a real life Captain Mainwaring. Indeed, all seemed to change with the advent of World War 2, especially with the influx of American Air Force personnel and how they brightened up local village life, soon to be followed by Italian and German prisoners of war who worked on the land. There are many, often inadvertent, comparisons to life as it is now. Whilst appreciative of past times Claude is not wedded to them and shows huge adaptability to the challenges that every decade has put before him. He is a true old fashioned naturalist and treats readers to stories about nature and country pursuits – especially shooting and horse racing. Overall, the book provides superb insights into past country life with its full range of joy and tears, and a cast of characters that Chaucer would have been proud of!

Book Twice the Thrills Twice the Chills

Download or read book Twice the Thrills Twice the Chills written by Bryan Senn and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2019-03-05 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the mid-1950s, to combat declining theater attendance, film distributors began releasing pre-packaged genre double-bills--including many horror and science fiction double features. Though many of these films were low-budget and low-end, others, such as Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Horror of Dracula and The Fly, became bona fide classics. Beginning with Universal-International's 1955 pairing of Revenge of the Creature and Cult of the Cobra, 147 officially sanctioned horror and sci-fi double-bills were released over a 20-year period. This book presents these double features year-by-year, and includes production details, historical notes, and critical commentary for each film.
