Download or read book All the Colors Came Out written by Kate Fagan and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This "love story for the ages" from a # 1 New York Times bestselling author comes an unforgettable story about basketball and the enduring bonds between a father and daughter that "will heal relationships and hearts" (Glennon Doyle). Kate Fagan and her father forged their relationship on the basketball court, bonded by sweaty high fives and a dedication to the New York Knicks. But as Kate got older, her love of the sport and her closeness with her father grew complicated. The formerly inseparable pair drifted apart. The lessons that her father instilled in her about the game, and all her memories of sharing the court with him over the years, were a distant memory. When Chris Fagan was diagnosed with ALS, Kate decided that something had to change. Leaving a high-profile job at ESPN to be closer to her mother and father and take part in his care, Kate Fagan spent the last year of her father’s life determined to return to him the kind of joy they once shared on the court. All the Colors Came Out is Kate Fagan’s completely original reflection on the very specific bond that one father and daughter shared, forged in the love of a sport which over time came to mean so much more. Studded with unforgettable scenes of humor, pain and hope, Kate Fagan has written a book that plumbs the mysteries of the unique gifts fathers gives daughters, ones that resonate across time and circumstance.

Download or read book The Politics of Mathematics Education written by Stieg Mellin-Olsen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1987-03-31 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of knowledge is never easy. One doesn’t want to go over old ground again, but yet one needs to establish the new in the context of the old. One is also anxious about the novelty of the ideas are they new enough, or are they too ‘way out’ to be acceptable? In some fields perhaps these criteria are less important than in others. In education, I sense that ‘novelty’ is a tricky criterion, varying in value from society to society. In some societies the new ideas have to justify their adoption in the face to the old, tried and tested ideas. (Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t!) In other societies the old ways have to justify their continuation in the face of the new, promising and exciting ideas. (I can’t find a good proverb for this! Perhaps proverbs are all about preserving the past?) In any case, some people will argue, there is nothing new to be said about education anyway the problems are the same and it is only the context which changes. Mellin Olsen develops the reader’s knowledge through this book in ways that are both novel and challenging. Their novelty is not in question, judging by reactions to them which vary from “they have nothing to do with mathematics education” to “they concern everything that is done in mathematics education”.

Book excerpt: This catalogue documents both the artworks and the almost 300 books on view at an eponymous exhibition at the Mechelen Cultural Centre. Featuring works by Jan Kempenaers, Kasper Andreasen, Aglaia Konrad, Ria Pacquée, Simon Popper, Mitja Tušek, and more, the artistic positions are set against an exhibition design conceived by Kris Kimpe and Koenraad Dedobbeleer, a kind of communal archive that systematically displays a selection of contemporary artists' books. The works closely relate to the codex of the book as a medium for artistic expression, as well as to the different gestures of reproduction that are representative of artists working in various media.
Download or read book The Hobbyist written by Olivia Baeriswyl and published by Spector Books. This book was released on 2017-09 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens when photographers and artists incorporate hobbies into their work as a means of challenging artistic practices and hierarchies? How do hobbyists describe their passions photographically, not least today in our era of digital communication? The Hobbyist is the first major exhibition to explore the relationship between photography and hobby culture, both in connection to photography of hobbies and also photography as a hobby. Both hobby and photographic practices similarly find themselves in between leisure and labour, ideology and consumerism, between amateur culture and professionalism. From the hippy and avant-garde cultures of the 1960s, to 1980s do-it-yourself, to today's maker movement, The Hobbyist explores photography's engagement with a wide variety of lively, often quirky amateur obsessions.
