Book excerpt: Hahn was a medium size manufacturer of durable, reliable fire apparatus. Similar to Crown fire apparatus but with an East Coast focus. Unlike many other smaller manufacturers, Hahn produced its own custom chassis as well as building on other manufacturers chassis. Its chassis was also used by other small truck manufacturers. Hahn made a variety of apparatus, from tractor-drawn ladder trucks, to rear mounted aerials. Hahn's designs were very unique and identifiable. Very little has been published on Hahn in the past. This book uses previously unpublished photographs, many factory delivery shots, to document the story of Hahn from its inception to its demise.

The images in this volume capture the history of Loudoun's fire and rescue apparatus, from the earliest trucks to today's modern fire and rescue vehicles. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1829, the Humane Hose Company and the Schuylkill Hydraulians Engine Company organized in the booming town of Pottsville, a mining center in Pennsylvania's anthracite coal region. Fire protection was urgently needed for this growing community. New fire companies such as the Good Intent, the Rough and Ready, and the Good Will formed, as well as junior fire companies, including the Rangers and the Young America. In a patriotic response to President Lincoln's call to arms, two Pottsville fire companies disbanded, committing themselves to the Union; they became members of the legendary "First Defenders" of the Civil War. The twentieth century brought new challenges of motorization, dieselization, and ever-stricter training standards. Pottsville Firefighting celebrates one hundred seventy-five years of firefighting in Pottsville.

Today it often is overlooked despite its historical significance.Buckboard Fire Apparatus: The Original Cab-Forward, with more than 200 photos and advertisements, explores the development of motor fire apparatus of the buckboard style during the brief period from 1905 through around 1920 when the buckboard style was common and produced in significant numbers by a variety of manufacturers.According to Walter McCall, the author of American Fire Engines Since 1900, "there is a LOT of new information in there, as well as many photos we haven't seen before. It's not just a book about buckboard-style apparatus -- it's an excellent overview of the birth of the motor fire apparatus era."
