Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The law established the Northwest Power Planning Council to prepare and adopt a regional conservation and electric power plan, and a program to protect, mitigate, and enhance fish and wildlife. The objectives are the development of regional plans and programs related to energy conservation, renewable resources, other resources, and protecting mitigating, and enhancing fish and wildlife resources and to protect, mitigate, and enhance the fish and wildlife, including related spawning grounds and habitat, of the Columbia River and its tributaries. 4 refs.

Book Review of Strategies for Recovering Tributary Habitat

Download or read book Review of Strategies for Recovering Tributary Habitat written by Robert E. Bilby and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-11 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether tributary habitat improvements have achieved, or are likely to achieve, the goal of recovering conditions favoring the production of salmonids in the Columbia River Basin is unclear. This report reviews the approaches, assessment procedures, and implementation strategies for habit improvement. It examines topics central to the recovery of tributary habitat: (1) the biological objectives related to habitat recovery; (2) the strategies for implementing restoration; (3) the incentives for implementing restoration; (4) the scientific foundation for habitat recovery; and (5) monitoring and evaluation. This review answers the question: What concepts and strategies should be incorporated in habitat recovery actions to improve their chances for success? Illus.

Book Lower Columbia River and Estuary Habitat Monitoring Study 2011 Final Report

Download or read book Lower Columbia River and Estuary Habitat Monitoring Study 2011 Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ecosystem Monitoring Program is a collaborative effort between the Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership (LCREP), University of Washington, Wetland Ecosystem Team (UW), US Geological Survey, Water Science Center (USGS), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA-Fisheries, hereafter NOAA), and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Marine Sciences Laboratory (PNNL). The goal of the program is to conduct emergent wetland monitoring aimed at characterizing salmonid habitats in the lower Columbia River and estuary (LCRE) from the mouth of the estuary to Bonneville Dam (Figure 1). This is an ecosystem based monitoring program focused on evaluating status and trends in habitat and reducing uncertainties regarding these ecosystems to ultimately improve the survival of juvenile salmonids through the LCRE. This project comprehensively assesses habitat, fish, food web, and abiotic conditions in the lower river, focusing on shallow water and vegetated habitats used by juvenile salmonids for feeding, rearing and refugia. The information is intended to be used to guide management actions associated with species recovery, particularly that of threatened and endangered salmonids. PNNL's role in this multi-year study is to monitor the habitat structure (e.g., vegetation, topography, channel morphology, and sediment type) as well as hydrologic patterns.

Book Columbia River Basin Tributary Habitat Restoration Programmatic Environmental Assessment

Download or read book Columbia River Basin Tributary Habitat Restoration Programmatic Environmental Assessment written by and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Bonneville Power Administration (Bonneville, as lead agency) and Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation, as cooperating agency)(collectively referred to as the Agencies) are evaluating certain categories of habitat restoration actions in the tributaries of the Columbia River in the states of Oregon,Washington, Idaho, western Montana, and northern Nevada. These actions range from those such as monitoring, fencing, and planting, to bridge construction, instream habitat improvement and stream channel reconstruction. Bonneville, in cooperation with Reclamation, is preparing this Columbia River Basin Tributary Habitat Restoration Programmatic Environmental Assessment (Programmatic EA) to analyze the potential impacts of tributary habitat restoration actions that may occur at locations across the Columbia River Basin (hereinafter, the "Basin"), excluding the Columbia River estuary, to support more efficient environmental review of site-specific restoration proposals."--Introduction (page 1).
