Book Advance Handgun Survival Tactics

Download or read book Advance Handgun Survival Tactics written by David H. Leflet and published by Paladin Press. This book was released on 2013-08-01 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Target shooting is about placing your shots in the center of a small target . . . [T]he penalty for not doing so is a poor score. Tactical shooting is about stopping someone from shooting you . . . [T]he penalty of not being able to do this is the loss of your own life." –J. Henry FitzGerald, Shooting, 1930 In Advanced Handgun Survival Tactics, authors Dave Leflet and Curtis Porter demonstrate why most of what is being taught today about tactical shooting is not just worthless but also dangerous. To combat this, they drew on their years of tactical shooting experience in law enforcement and the military, along with proven scientific and medical research, to create their own training program for developing and maintaining tactical readiness for law enforcement officers and civilians interested in combat shooting. Their tactical training system, which they call the Porter method, is a reality-based approach to handgun shooting. The tactical skills they teach are based on combat-shooting techniques that have been repeatedly field-tested and proven during actual combat by gunfighters, combat veterans, military instructors, and law enforcement officers. They are not based on police firearms training because most police training is badly flawed and unsafe for people who attempt to use it in the real world. One common mistake people make is believing that shooters who can punch holes in paper targets, have the skills they need to prevail in a real shoot-out where the targets are shooting back. They are dead wrong. There are no second-place winners in tactical shooting. You have people who survive and people who die. This book teaches shooting techniques that can help you survive. Though it is primarily about handgun shooting, the authors have included a bonus chapter on tactical shotgun shooting for special situations.

Book excerpt: A result of twelve years of research, The Gunfighter's Bible was written to meet the needs of the gun owner, the experienced shooter, those who own a weapon strictly for home and self-defense, and for the military member who wants to become a better shooter in defense of our country. It's also for the law enforcement officer who risks his or her life going against the thugs of our society, and for anyone interested in learning the defensive and tactical training techniques from some of the best and most experienced shooters in the world. The shooting skills taught in this book carry broad application in civilian, law enforcement, and military contexts. Members of the armed services, government and law enforcement agencies, as well as civilians, will find that the close-range shooting methods addressed in this book can provide a decisive advantage. Book The Modern Pistol and How to Shoot It

Download or read book The Modern Pistol and How to Shoot It written by Walter Winans and published by Library of Alexandria. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is now no use learning revolver shooting. That form of pistol is obsolete except in the few instances where it survives for target shooting, or is carried for self-defence; just as flintlock muskets even now survive in out-of-the-way parts of the world. If a man tries to defend himself with a revolver against another armed with an automatic pistol he is at a great disadvantage. The automatic is more accurate than a revolver, as the “blow-back” does not vary as much as does the escape of gas past the cylinder in a revolver. The bullet in the revolver has to jump into the cylinder, whereas in the automatic it is already fitted up against the rifling, before being fired. The single-shot pistol is the most accurate of any, there being no escape of gas. The automatic has not only a much longer range than the revolver (although the popular idea that it can be shot accurately at a thousand yards or more is nonsense) but it cocks itself instead of having to be cocked by the thumb, or trigger finger. Cocking by trigger-pull is such a strain on, not only the trigger finger, but the whole hand, that, after a few shots, good shooting cannot be made. I won all my rapid-firing revolver competitions using the single action and cocking with the thumb, as this rested my trigger finger. With the automatic, cocking is unnecessary and, with its lighter recoil, good scores in rapid-firing are very much easier to make. The penetration of the nickel-coated automatic bullet propelled by its big charge of nitro powder is very great. A man brought me a “pistol-proof” cuirass to test; I put a bullet at twelve yards clean through it and then through two “bullet proof” ones, placed one behind the other. (I used a regulation U. S. .45 Automatic pistol.) This was before the war. The inventor was disappointed. He had experimented only with revolvers shooting soft leaden bullets and these his cuirass had stopped. Unfortunately, in its present comparatively imperfect development, the automatic is the most dangerous firearm of all pistols for a novice to handle. The long barrel of a rifle can be struck aside if a beginner swings it round and points it at the instructor or a nearby spectator, but the short barrel of a pistol is easily pointed at and with difficulty brushed aside by the unfortunate person standing near a “brandishing” and “flourishing” man who is learning to shoot. In spite of all warnings even those who ought to know better do this swinging about. In fact, it is the recognized way of handling a pistol; according to reporters, they always say So and So “was brandishing a pistol” if he happens to be armed.

Book Building a Better Gunfighter

Download or read book Building a Better Gunfighter written by Richard Fairburn and published by Paladin Press. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Dick Fairburn just might have written the definitive work on gunfighting. Not just about fighting, mind you, but on how to create a gunfighter. It's all here: mindset, tactics, and techniques . . . everything but the individual willingness to training and practice." ——Dave Spaulding, 2010 Law Enforcement Trainer of the Year, and author of Handgun Combatives and Defensive Living "I strongly recommend that you not just read but study and apply this excellent book." ——Dave Grossman, author of On Killing and On Combat It is not enough to just have a gun—it is also vital to be trained in the proper use of that weapon. That is what this book is all about. A veteran law enforcement officer and firearms trainer for more than 30 years, Richard Fairburn trained under the legendary Col. Jeff Cooper at Gunsite and Clint Smith at Thunder Ranch, and has all available NRA instructor certifications. In Building a Better Gunfighter, Fairburn has turned his remarkable skills toward teaching you to properly employ a firearm in combat. Fairburn's three-part training model is based on the three "Ms:" marksmanship, mechanics, and mindset. While this in itself is not unique, the cyclic system of training through all three Ms at a low level of competence before starting all over again with shorter time frames, tougher targets, and more realistic force-on-force scenarios is. The result is one of the finest gunfighter training resources available. The principles taught in this book apply equally to police officers, soldiers, and citizens alike. If you are a concerned citizen who chooses to go armed, for reasons of personal protection or as a part of your chosen profession, this book is for you. For if you choose to go armed, you must also choose to be competent in the use of your weapons, as well as being physically and mentally prepared for the rigors of personal combat. This book will assist you in that training.

Book Training the Gunfighter

Download or read book Training the Gunfighter written by T.J. Mullin and published by Paladin Press. This book was released on 2010-04-01 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it was originally published in 1981, Training the Gunfighter was ahead of its time. It was one of the first comprehensive studies of the best ways to equip law officers to perform their duties--from choosing the best guns for the job to creating a realistic training program to understanding the legal implications of using their weapons. Now, former law-enforcement officer, practicing attorney, and current police trainer Tim Mullin brings Training the Gunfighter up to date, combining the time-honored information from the original book with fresh insights on preparing officers--and law-abiding citizens--to use deadly force against today's violent criminals. Mullin thoroughly discusses selection and use of combat firearms and ammunition for patrol- men, plainclothes investigators, off-duty officers, undercover cops, and legally armed citizens. He studies handguns, shotguns, rifles, and special-purpose weapons from a tactical and historical perspective--and comes to some surprising conclusions about semiautomatics vs. revolvers, the utility of the venerable .38 Special, the practical value of the 20-gauge shotgun, cost-effective training methods, adequate practice ranges, and dozens of other relevant topics.
