Book Guidelines for Home Study in Vermont 2002

Download or read book Guidelines for Home Study in Vermont 2002 written by Vermont State Department. of Education, Montpelier and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 2001-2002 school year, over 2,100 Vermont children received their education in a homestudy program. Parents or guardians who decide to educate their children at home assume a great responsibility. In effect they are responsible for writing a curriculum, finding learning materials, providing resources, presenting instruction, adapting the lessons to each child's age and ability, reviewing and correcting each child's work and ensuring that each child's progress is assessed in each subject area at the end of the year. All this, combined with the everyday tasks of good parenting, presents a formidable challenge, which can be successfully met only by dedicated, concerned parents, willing and able to devote the time and effort necessary to make homeschooling work well. The guidelines for home study in Vermont are provided in this document. The following are appended: (1) Parents' Rights in Special Education; and (2) Forms Checklist.

Book The Dilemmas of Lone Motherhood

Download or read book The Dilemmas of Lone Motherhood written by Randy Albelda and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today’s society, women - having entered the workplace in growing numbers worldwide - are increasingly expected to earn wages whilst still being primarily responsible for raising children. While all parents confront the tensions of this double burden, for lone mothers, the situation can be especially acute as there is no other adult to share responsibilities and no access to a male wage. The revealing essays in this volume address a range of the dilemmas lone mothers routinely face, whilst also distinguishing important situational differences, and considering other social perspectives. It asks: * How can governments help without undermining their ability to enter the workforce? * Should the state indefinitely support lone mothers? * How should we measure the success of a policy? * What roles do ethnicity, race, religion, class and sexual orientation play? The impressive range of contributors to this volume speak from numerous contrasting perspectives. Here they study a variety of international settings such as Sri Lanka, the US, Germany, England and Norway, and in so doing, they allow the reader to draw powerful conclusions by comparing such issues and potential resolutions in varying countries and contexts. This book was previously published as a special issue of Feminist Economics.

Book excerpt: The latest work from pioneering scholar George Elliott Clarke, Directions Home is the most comprehensive analysis of African-Canadian texts and writers to date. Building on the discoveries of his critically acclaimed Odysseys Home, Clarke passionately analyses the beautiful complexities and haunting conundrums of this important body of literature. Directions Home explores the trajectories and tendencies of African-Canadian literature within the Canadian canon and the socio-cultural traditions of the African Diaspora. Clarke showcases the importance of little-known texts, including church histories and slave narratives, and offers studies of autobiography, crime and punishment, jazz poetics, and musical composition. The collection also includes studies of significant contemporary writers such as George Boyd and Dionne Brand, and trailblazing African-Canadian intellectuals like A.B. Walker and Anna Minerva Henderson. With its national, bilingual, and historical perspectives, Directions Home is an essential guide to African-Canadian literature.

Book Current Approaches to the Analysis and Interpretation of Small Lithic Sites in the Northeast

Download or read book Current Approaches to the Analysis and Interpretation of Small Lithic Sites in the Northeast written by Christina B. Rieth and published by NYS State Museum. This book was released on 2008 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume reflects the continuing interest and important contributions being made by archaeologists to the study of small lithic sites in the Northeast. The articles in this volume challenge existing notions that these small sites do not produce meaningful data about the past by highlighting the ways in which prehistoric populations exploited the local landscape for settlement purposes. This work has been enhanced by the use of modern analytical, recovery, and archaeometric techniques, which not only have allowed for the reanalysis of older data sets but also have added new information to an already large regional data set. The articles in this volume are grouped around three general themes: Defining and Assessing the Research Potential of Small Lithic Sites, Small Lithic Sites and their Contributions to Local and Regional Settlement Systems, and Managing and Evaluating the National Register Significance of Small Lithic Sites. Small lithic sites dating from the Archaic Period (c. 10,000 B.P.) to European Contact (c. 500 B.P.) are discussed within the volume's chapters."--Publisher's description.
