Book Capital in the Twenty First Century

Download or read book Capital in the Twenty First Century written by Thomas Piketty and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2017-08-14 with total page 817 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the grand dynamics that drive the accumulation and distribution of capital? Questions about the long-term evolution of inequality, the concentration of wealth, and the prospects for economic growth lie at the heart of political economy. But satisfactory answers have been hard to find for lack of adequate data and clear guiding theories. In this work the author analyzes a unique collection of data from twenty countries, ranging as far back as the eighteenth century, to uncover key economic and social patterns. His findings transform debate and set the agenda for the next generation of thought about wealth and inequality. He shows that modern economic growth and the diffusion of knowledge have allowed us to avoid inequalities on the apocalyptic scale predicted by Karl Marx. But we have not modified the deep structures of capital and inequality as much as we thought in the optimistic decades following World War II. The main driver of inequality--the tendency of returns on capital to exceed the rate of economic growth--today threatens to generate extreme inequalities that stir discontent and undermine democratic values if political action is not taken. But economic trends are not acts of God. Political action has curbed dangerous inequalities in the past, the author says, and may do so again. This original work reorients our understanding of economic history and confronts us with sobering lessons for today.

Book Grow Smart Risk Less

Book excerpt: Experienced franchisor Shelly Sun shares practical advice, insights, and her own compelling experiences to help readers discover the power and avoid the pitfalls of franchising their businesses. * A low-risk, low-capital path to astounding growth. In today's economic environment, and long into the future, access to capital is limited. Successful business owners have few options for dramatically expanding their brand, taking it to the regional, national, or even international arena. Grow Smart, Risk Less describes how readers, through franchising, can use other people's money and leverage their success for rapid growth. * Covers the entire process of franchising. Most books on franchising focus on educating the franchisee, but this book is designed to fully educate the franchisor. The author walks readers through each stage of the franchising process: from determining if they have a franchisable concept, to assembling a professional team without wasting money, to adjusting the business model along the way for optimum growth, to growing as a leader to assume new challenges. * Written by an experienced, nationally lauded franchisor. Unlike many authors of books on franchising, Shelly Sun has been through the process, growing her business from $1 million to $100 million in five years. She's been named entrepreneur of the year by the International Franchise Association and is being featured on a network prime-time show about compelling companies.

Book How to Be a Capitalist Without Any Capital

Download or read book How to Be a Capitalist Without Any Capital written by Nathan Latka and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2019-03-07 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You don't need to be university educated, have money, be creative, or even have an idea to get rich. You just need to be willing to break the rules. How to be a Capitalist Without Any Capital will teach you how to be a modern opportunist - investor, entrepreneur, or side hustler - by breaking these four golden rules of the old guard: 1. Focus on one skill: Wrong. Don't cultivate one great skill to get ahead. In today's business world, success goes to the multitaskers. 2. Be unique: Wrong. The way to get rich is not by launching a new idea but by aggressively copying others and then adding your own twist. 3. Focus on one goal: Wrong. Focus instead on creating a system to produce the outcome you want, not just once, but over and over again. 4. Appeal to the masses: Wrong. The masses are broke ($4k average net worth in America?). Let others cut a trail through the jungle so you can peacefully walk in and capitalize on their hard work. By rejecting these defunct rules and following Nathan Latka's unconventional path, you can copy other people's ideas shamelessly, bootstrap a start-up with almost no funding, invest in small local businesses for huge payoffs, and reap all the benefits.

Book The Growth of Capital Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Growth of Capital Classic Reprint written by Robert Giffen and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Growth of Capital I must insist on this point all the more, because, Since my former paper was written, attention has, in fact, been withdrawn from the special object in view, and it has been thought, apparently, that such esti mates Of property can be used for miscellaneous purposes in a way which I believe most dangerous, and that they can be made with a degree of accuracy which I believe to be impossible. Country has been compared with country, and period with period, in the most reckless fashion, without any attention to the comparability of the data. Such figures have even been used Officially for the purpose of discussing the relative incidence of taxation on different kinds of property, real and personal being the kinds dis tinguished. I desire to record an emphatic protest against the employment of a method, which appears good enough for a Special purpose in the absence of anything better, for purposes of a totally different kind, where a different degree Of accuracy, which the figures are not susceptible of, may be necessary. Whether estimates of property, and the different kinds of it, can be made for such a purpose as dis cussing the incidence of taxation or the like practical objects, is a point at least on which I reserve my own Opinion. At any rate, those who make such estimates are bound in l'iminc to justify their method, and to prove that the necessary degree of accuracy for the purpose they have in View is obtainable. For any such purpose as that now in hand, comparatively rough estimates are all that are required, and com paratively rough estimates are all that it is proposed to make. Book Capitalism without Capital

Download or read book Capitalism without Capital written by Jonathan Haskel and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-10-16 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early in the twenty-first century, a quiet revolution occurred. For the first time, the major developed economies began to invest more in intangible assets, like design, branding, and software, than in tangible assets, like machinery, buildings, and computers. For all sorts of businesses, the ability to deploy assets that one can neither see nor touch is increasingly the main source of long-term success. But this is not just a familiar story of the so-called new economy. Capitalism without Capital shows that the growing importance of intangible assets has also played a role in some of the larger economic changes of the past decade, including the growth in economic inequality and the stagnation of productivity. Jonathan Haskel and Stian Westlake explore the unusual economic characteristics of intangible investment and discuss how an economy rich in intangibles is fundamentally different from one based on tangibles. Capitalism without Capital concludes by outlining how managers, investors, and policymakers can exploit the characteristics of an intangible age to grow their businesses, portfolios, and economies.
