Book Sustainability Governance and Hierarchy

Download or read book Sustainability Governance and Hierarchy written by Philippe Hamman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-19 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainability Governance and Hierarchy provides a solid, theoretically and empirically grounded reflection on the concept of "sustainability governance". This idea has been growing in popularity in social science literature, as well as among decision-makers and governance actors, as it brings together two vast fields of study that have sometimes been dismissed as vague or ideologically loaded. In order to link the concepts of "sustainability" and "governance", the book is organized around the exploration of hierarchy issues, which often lie in the background of the existing literature but are not the focus of analysis. The chapters reflect ongoing controversies and dialogue between scientists with different theoretical and thematic backgrounds, who are all willing to participate in and contribute to a constructive effort to reach a more inclusive and more theoretically relevant stage for sustainability studies, being content with merely global analyses. The book is an innovative contribution to the hierarchy/non-hierarchy debate regarding governance arrangements in the field of sustainability and sustainability studies. This book will be of interest to advanced students and scholars focusing on governance issues, sustainability studies, environmental studies, as well as on the methodological aspects of the social sciences (economy, geography, law, philosophy, political science, sociology, urbanism and planning). This book is published with the support of the European Union, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Upper Rhine Interreg V programme, as part of the "Upper Rhine Cluster for Sustainability Research" project.

Book European Textile Research Competitiveness Through Innovation

Download or read book European Textile Research Competitiveness Through Innovation written by C. Blum and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J. IIONEYMAN The second textile and clothing research and development programme (1982-1985) supported by the EEC was undertaken with the prime objective of strengthening the competitiveness of the Community textile industries by stimulating innovation. From the generation of the research ideas through to the application of new technologies, the optimum conditions for scientific research demand highly trained and qualified people working in well-equipped laboratories. The Commission, in collaboration with the textile industries working through Comitextil, participated in the selection of suitable topics and supported the implementation of the programme and the publication and dissemination of the results. In all, 24 institutes in seven member countries carried out the programme which was divided into 35 separate but co-ordinated contracts. The costs were shared equally between the Commission and the participat ing institutes. The results were presented by selected specialists at the closing symposium held in Luxembourg on the 18 and 19 September 1985. The technical sessions covered the four topics : garment physiology and construction, quality of knitted fabrics and articles, application of new spinning technologies in the wool industry, and the upgrading of linen. In addition, prominent industrialists and Commission officials presented papers concerned with the present situation and the prospects for textile manufacture in the Community. Possible future research topics were outlined and the need was stressed for an increase in the amount of research and development to be carried out.

Book Huiti me congr s international d tudes coptes Paris 2004

Download or read book Huiti me congr s international d tudes coptes Paris 2004 written by Anne Boud'hors and published by Editions De Boccard. This book was released on 2006 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Coptic Studies on the Threshold of a New Millennium

Download or read book Coptic Studies on the Threshold of a New Millennium written by Mat Immerzeel and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 2004 with total page 752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The congresses organised every four years under the auspices of the International Association for Coptic Studies (IACS) are the main forum for scholars of Egyptian Christian life and culture through the ages. The proceedings of the seventh congress, which was held in Leiden in 2000, comprise ninety-nine papers, reflecting the growth and diversification of Coptic studies worldwide. They include valuable and sometimes groundbreaking essays in topics of, for example, Coptic language, literature, monasticism and archaeology. A particularly noteworthy and important feature of the present proceedings are the state-of-the-art reviews of current trends and achievements in the main fields of the discipline, written by invited experts and accompanied by extensive bibliographies. These review articles cover aspects of Coptic studies as diverse as papyrology, gnosticism, liturgy, Copto-Arabic and art history. They turn these two volumes into real reference books, indispensable for every scholar of early Church history, late antiquity and Near Eastern Christianity.

Book Fabric of Gender

Download or read book Fabric of Gender written by Helen Chenut and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on 2010-11-01 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The years of the Third Republic (1870-1940) in France were ones of intense social and economic transformation as workers struggled to defend their rights in the face of growing industrial capitalism. In The Fabric of Gender, Helen Chenut paints a vivid picture of working life during these years by following four generations of laboring women and men in one community, the textile town of Troyes in the Champagne region. In Troyes workers were locked in an adversarial relationship with mill owners, whose monopoly over the labor market in a single-industry town largely determined the workers' future. And yet workers managed to create a counterculture of resistance by founding labor unions, consumer cooperatives, and socialist parties through which they were gradually able to implement change. Women were key actors in this struggle as their garment-making skills became increasingly important to the growing productivity of the knitted textile industry. Drawing upon rich archival records, oral histories, and highly evocative illustrations, Chenut tells a fascinating story of this fight for a "social republic," one in which both men and women had the right to work for a living wage and to partake in a consumer society. The Fabric of Gender appears at a time when European labor historians are reexamining their field. Chenut's innovative study of working-class culture--integrating gender, class, politics, and consumption--stands as a model for the expansion of labor history beyond traditional lines of inquiry.

Book Le Mouvement Canadien Des Femmes 1960 1990

Download or read book Le Mouvement Canadien Des Femmes 1960 1990 written by Canadian Women's Movement Archives and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This bilingual guide captures the range of documentation created in what historians refer to as the second wave of the women's movement, which emerged after 1960 in the context of widespread social and political change in Canada. Included in the guide are the records of women's groups formed or functioning after 1960 that are held in a variety of Canadian archives or by the groups themselves. This guide challenges perceptions of what is archival by focusing on contemporary movement records, which may be held to stimulate research on the contemporary Canadian women's movement and encourage more widespread collection of these records by archival repositories. With its user-friendly approach to archival description, the guide seeks to reach an audience unfamiliar with traditional archives and raise awareness among women's groups and activists of the archival value of their records.
