Book Dense Chlorinated Solvents in Porous and Fractured Media

Download or read book Dense Chlorinated Solvents in Porous and Fractured Media written by Friedrich Schwille and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1988-02 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is pioneering new information-the result of 20 years of research by the world's leader to help develop a genuine understanding of the behavior of the all-pervasive dense chlorinated solvents in the vadose and unsaturated zones. Now you can know the basic chemical processes for dense solvent spills, how spill volumes translate into magnitudes of contamination zones, how to remediate existing spills, and how to predict spill behavior. This new book is chemical, physical, quantitative, and qualitative-made especially valuable by 48 full-color illustrations and descriptions. This is an exacting work that should prove invaluable for years to come.

Book Groundwater Contaminants and Their Migration

Download or read book Groundwater Contaminants and Their Migration written by J. D. Mather and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 1998 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Publication presents a largely UK persperctive on groundwater contamination, 'warts' and all. It gives the international reader an oppurtunity to assess the standing of British contaminant hydrogeology in the world today. There are also international papers on organic contamination at industrial sites in the USA, minewater pollution from France and data, previously unavailable, from the major liquid radioactive waste disposal operation in Tomsk, Central Siberia. We hope that this compilation will enable both the experienced hydrogeologist and the interested scientist to discover how we have polluted, investigated and attempted to clean up mankind's most precious geological resource-groundwater.

Book The Chalk Aquifers of Northern Europe

Download or read book The Chalk Aquifers of Northern Europe written by R.P. Farrell and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2023-09-26 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cretaceous Chalk aquifers of Northern Europe underlie and support many sensitive ecosystems whilst at the same time being an important source of drinking water. Understanding, managing and protecting this valuable asset has always been a challenge and this volume brings together 25 papers representing current knowledge of the Chalk across a variety of thematic sections. The contributions look at aquifer properties, geology and karst; groundwater monitoring in the Chalk; groundwater management; groundwater-fed wetlands; engineering in the Chalk; heat and solute transport; diffuse pollution; and point source pollution. Geographically, the book includes studies undertaken in England, France, Belgium and Denmark. As well as academic papers, many of the chapters are practitioner focused and the editors hope that anyone working in Chalk groundwaters in Northern Europe, whether in academic, consultancy, water company or regulatory roles, will find this book an invaluable resource.

Book Groundwater Pollution Aquifer Recharge and Vulnerability

Download or read book Groundwater Pollution Aquifer Recharge and Vulnerability written by N. S. Robins and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 1998 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary groundwater management issue in many countries today is pollution. This may derive from a point source, perhaps a leaking solvent store at a factory, or it may be diffuse, such as the threat posed by the use of agricultural fertilisers and pesticides. The key to understanding the transport of a pollutant from the ground surface or near surface into an aquifer is an understanding of recharge. In turn, this allows the vulnerability of aquifers to pollution to be classified and appropriate land zones to be defined. Land zonation of different classes of aquifer vulnerability is a valuable tool for management and planning. In this volume the recent developments within the interlinked areas of groundwater pollution, aquifer recharge and vulnerability are set against the current groundwater protection policies of the UK amd Republic Ireland.
