Book Grizzly Man s Morality

Download or read book Grizzly Man s Morality written by Blake L. Ginsburg and published by Akram. This book was released on 2023-03-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an attempt to reveal the formative and transformative aspects of Timothy Treadwell's project, I rely upon an ethological framework developed by Matthew Calarco that moves beyond the narrow conception of ethology as a scientific practice aimed at systematic and rigorous documentation of the quantifiable aspects of animal behavior. While many people might be hesitant to conceive of Treadwell's project as an ethological one, I hope to illuminate the ways in which his life among bears and foxes might be understood as emblematic of a kind of amateur ethology and ethological philosophy (i.e., ethosophy) and then use this understanding of Treadwell's work to give shape to the disclosive, generative, and transformative aspects of such practice. I then suggest that ethological experiments of this sort, while subjecting practitioners to certain risks, are vitally important for understanding human-animal relationships, reducing conflict between humans and other predator species, and generating systemic cultural changes in view of other animals.

Download or read book Among Grizzlies written by Timothy Treadwell and published by Harper. This book was released on 1997-03-19 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the tradition of the works of Dian Fossey and Jane Goodall, Timothy Treadwell offers an extraordinary account of the eight summers he spent alone with a pack of wild grizzlies along a remote stretch of the Alaskan coastline. After a misspent youth of drugs, alcohol, petty crime and brushes with suicide, Timothy Treadwell encountered some grizzly bears while tramping through the Alaskan outback one summer. In the eight years since, he has immersed himself in the society of these rare and fascinating animals, observing their culture, photo-graphing their antics and ever so gradually earning their trust. Crammed with little-known bear lore and facts, much of which Treadwell has gleaned from his own research, this is the first book to reveal the day-to-day behavior of bears in the wild. But it is more than an illuminating study of grizzlies. The young author's intimate association with these noble and complex creatures has inspired him to put his own life in order, and his personal story makes Among Grizzlies an exceptionally poignant and exhilarating reading experience.

Book The Stage Lives of Animals

Download or read book The Stage Lives of Animals written by Una Chaudhuri and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Stage Lives of Animals examines what it might mean to make theatre beyond the human. In this stunning collection of essays, Una Chaudhuri engages with the alternative modes of thinking, feeling, and making art offered by animals and animality, bringing insights from theatre practice and theory to animal studies as well as exploring what animal studies can bring to the study of theatre and performance. As our planet lives through what scientists call "the sixth extinction," and we become ever more aware of our relationships to other species, Chaudhuri takes a highly original look at the "animal imagination" of well-known plays, performances and creative projects, including works by: Caryl Churchill Rachel Rosenthal Marina Zurkow Edward Albee Tennesee Williams Eugene Ionesco Covering over a decade of explorations, a wide range of writers, and many urgent topics, this volume demonstrates that an interspecies imagination deeply structures modern western drama.
