Book Grain Boundary Faceting of 10 10 Tilt Boundaries in Zinc

Download or read book Grain Boundary Faceting of 10 10 Tilt Boundaries in Zinc written by George H Bishop (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faceted high-angle tilt grain boundaries have been observed in 10-10 zinc bicrystals and tricrystals grown from the melt. Faceting occurs over a 5-1/2 degrees range of misorientations for tilt angles between 31 and 36.5 degrees. The facets, which are asymmetric 10-10 tilt boundaries, are singular interfaces corresponding to energy cusps in the gamma-plot of grain boundary energy versus the inclination of the boundary surface. Limiting values of the depth of the energy cusps giving rise to the facets, and of the surface torques acting on the facets, are presented. The conditions for, and the mechanisms of facet formation are discussed. (Author).

Book Superplasticity and Grain Boundaries in Ultrafine Grained Materials

Download or read book Superplasticity and Grain Boundaries in Ultrafine Grained Materials written by Peter M. Burgess and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-05-31 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superplasticity is a state in which solid crystalline materials, such as some fine-grained metals, are deformed well beyond their usual breaking point. The phenomenon is of importance in processes such as superplastic forming which allows the manufacture of complex, high-quality components in such areas as aerospace and biomedical engineering.Superplasticity and grain boundaries in ultrafine-grained materials discusses a number of problems associated with grain boundaries in metallic polycrystalline materials. The role of grain boundaries in processes such as grain boundary diffusion, relaxation and grain growth is investigated. The authors explore the formation and evolution of the microstructure, texture and ensembles of grain boundaries in materials produced by severe plastic deformation.Written by two leading experts in the field, Superplasticity and grain boundaries in ultrafine-grained materials significantly advances our understanding of this important phenomenon and will be an important reference work for metallurgists and those involved in superplastic forming processes. - Discusses significant problems associated with grain boundaries in polycrystals incorporating structural superplasticity and grain boundary sliding - Assesses the role of grain boundaries in processes such as grain boundary diffusion, relaxation and grain growth - Explores the formation and evolution of the microstructure, texture and ensembles of grain boundaries in materials produced by severe plastic deformation

Book Grain Boundaries and Crystalline Plasticity

Download or read book Grain Boundaries and Crystalline Plasticity written by Louisette Priester and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-02-07 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of this book is to put forward the fundamental role of grain boundaries in the plasticity of crystalline materials. To understand this role requires a multi-scale approach to plasticity: starting from the atomic description of a grain boundary and its defects, moving on to the elemental interaction processes between dislocations and grain boundaries, and finally showing how the microscopic phenomena influence the macroscopic behaviors and constitutive laws. It involves bringing together physical, chemical and mechanical studies. The investigated properties are: deformation at low and high temperature, creep, fatigue and rupture.
