Book All the Sunshine That Wasn t Grey

Download or read book All the Sunshine That Wasn t Grey written by Rahul Shandilya and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2022-10-06 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three Women. Three independent stories of how broken people see love. In the Sky of a Million Stars—For an introverted city-lad like Abheer, life in her dadi maa’s village, Kainat is exile. The only respite from boredom is looking at Fatima in the paddy fields from his bedside window every morning. But the poor girl is cursed, says dadi maa. Any silly superstition hurting Fatima is blasphemous to the things she makes Abheer feel. What is this curse? What shall be the fate of a friendship that blooms in its shadow? A Wistful Woman’s Chronicle—At 37, the sensual, immoral Mridula pleads herself a victim of the most horrible things a woman can face, which stem from two men in her past. Maybe she would not have loved and looted hundreds of men otherwise. Or maybe not. If these two men die, her past will stop haunting her. Only then can she truly discover who she is. On this killing spree, she meets a young, lively seventeen-year-old Rishi, and she is tempted to befriend him. Is this temptation limited to looting him, or will the destruction be deeper? What is Mridula’s story? What will this friendship cost Rishi? Fireflies—Adeeba is a lesbian. Why else should she have to leave her village Rohila, lose Ammi or her little sister Sabeena. If she didn’t love Bhoomi, she didn’t have to run her away from that nasty ritual. Sabeena didn’t have to lose her leg; Bhoomi her memory. After all, no one had saved Adeeba from that. But if she is a lesbian, why is love sprouting inside her for Veer? How can she love both of them, when her body can love only one? And how differently? How far can we go to make ourselves feel loved and understood?

Book excerpt: Author of Reese's Book Club YA Pick The Light in Hidden Places, Sharon Cameron, delivers an emotionally gripping and utterly immersive thriller, perfect for fans of Ruta Sepetys's Salt to the Sea. In 1946, Eva leaves behind the rubble of Berlin for the streets of New York City, stepping from the fiery aftermath of one war into another, far colder one, where power is more important than principles, and lies are more plentiful than the truth. Eva holds the key to a deadly secret: Project Bluebird -- a horrific experiment of the concentration camps, capable of tipping the balance of world power. Both the Americans and the Soviets want Bluebird, and it is something that neither should ever be allowed to possess. But Eva hasn't come to America for secrets or power. She hasn't even come for a new life. She has come to America for one thing: justice. And the Nazi that has escaped its net. Critically acclaimed author of The Light in Hidden Places Sharon Cameron weaves a taut and affecting thriller ripe with intrigue and romance in this alternately chilling and poignant portrait of the personal betrayals, terrifying injustices, and deadly secrets that seethe beneath the surface in the aftermath of World War II.

Before she leaves the convent, Nona must choose which order to dedicate herself to—and whether her path will lead to a life of prayer and service or one of the blade and the fist. All that stands between her and these choices are the pride of a thwarted assassin, the designs of a would-be empress wielding the Inquisition like a knife, and the vengeance of the empire's richest lord. As the world narrows around her, and her enemies attack her through the system she is sworn to, Nona must find her own path despite the competing pulls of friendship, revenge, ambition, and loyalty. And in all this only one thing is certain: there will be blood.

Book excerpt: A heart-pounding, claustrophobic new story from Melissa Grey, the author of RATED. Ten years ago, disaster struck the remote town of Indigo Falls. A horrific event drove the residents underground, into shelters that keep them safe from the danger on the surface. No one speaks about what happened that fateful day, but even the youngest still remember the fear and, most of all, the searing pain when sunlight touched their skin. Now, a handful of families inhabit this bunker together, guided by a charismatic leader named Dr. Imogen Moran. There are many rules Dr. Moran has instilled to govern life belowground. You must always tell the truth. You must avoid the light of the sun. You must never touch skin to skin. But the most important rule, the one that was drilled into their heads from the moment the hatch slammed shut all those years ago, was at the very end of the list. It rattled around in their skulls when all was silent, echoing in the quiet, lonely dark. You must never go outside.

Sunshine Grey is an extraordinary teen girl who is rescued from homelessness by her commercial fisherman grandfather, Charlie. Though she has never known him, together they must work against the trials of life to reunite their family. He must come to terms with a cancer diagnosis and demands on his finances that have him dealing drugs. Through Charlie, she finds her first love, and with that a threat to her life. Only Charlie can save her. Together they work to bring in enough fish to pay off the note on his boat before the cancer kills him and his drug dealing catches up with them and scuttles the whole operation. **** Sunshine Grey, a teen girl, is rescued from homelessness by her grandfather, Charlie. He is a man whom she has barely heard of for the past dozen years. There was an emotional blowup when Sunshine was just a toddler and her mother ran off with her ne'r-do-well father, who soon enough abandoned them both. But not before Sunshine's father, the man who gave her that name, so turned her mother away from her parents it took a twist of fate to bring them back together again. Charlie is a commercial fisherman, in Bodega Bay, who has just been handed a terminal cancer diagnosis, with less than ten months left on the clock. His wife, Sunshine's grandmother, has been in and out of behavioral health clinics, and that has drained their resources. Charlie has taken to dealing drugs to keep up with the co-pays. It is going well until he tries to up the ante and hawks his boat to Orlando, the man supplying him with his drugs. That's when things begin to fall apart. Charlie soon proves to be an incompetent dealer, reason enough for him to be often threatened and more than once severely beaten. Once Sunshine is re-established, she works to bring her whole family, people she has never met, together for a crab boil on the Fourth of July weekend. Each of them come with their own problems. Sunshine's mother and grandmother are emotionally frail, both of them hanging on the edge. It is through Sunshine's example that her family is able to mend. She finds her first love in Randy, a teen a year ahead of her in her new high school. Randy has a friend, Boomer. He's a brute who threatens Sunshine and who eventually tries to rape her. Randy and Sunshine must rescue Boomer minutes after Randy gets him off Sunshine. He had fallen down a cliff on a moonless night, and clings for his life above the rugged rocks and waves below. They risk their own safety to drag him to the top of the cliff. When he is safe again, Randy pommels Boomer and leaves him to walk home on his own. The next time they see Boomer he has brought a gun into the store where Randy works. In a surprise action he shoots Randy, and levels the gun at Sunshine. It is only through Charlie's quick action that Sunshine is able to escape the attack. Charlie is given no option but to shoot Boomer dead. Despite her need to stay with the stricken Randy, Charlie must recruit Sunshine to crew his boat after his regular crew is forced to leave him. The relationship between Charlie and Sunshine strengthens as they work to bring in enough fish to pay off the ticket on the boat. They are constantly threatened by the Orlando's speed boat that seems to be hanging a few minutes off at all times, keeping watch over their every move. When Sunshine asks to veer off course for a few minutes of sightseeing, Charlie allows it, thinking she deserves a little happiness. He has reached his limit, enough of being told what to do. He arms himself and prepares for a battle as the speed boat rushes toward them. At the same time their boat is overtaken by a rogue wave and Charlie, who is intent on the speed boat, is washed overboard as his boat, with Sunshine aboard, is broken up on the rocks.
