Sumptuously illustrated, "A Token of My Affection" follows the evolution of the modern greeting card industry from a traditional printing and stationery business in the mid-nineteenth century to the multibillion-dollar industry it is today. Blending archival research in business history with a study of surviving artifacts and a literary analysis of a range of relevant texts and primary sources, Barry Shank demonstrates how greeting cards have affected and defined experiences of status, longing, desire, social connectedness, and love. • Author : Annabel Port
  • Publisher : Unbound Publishing
  • Release : 2018-04-19
  • ISBN : 1783524480

Download or read book Annabel vs the Internet written by Annabel Port and published by Unbound Publishing. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annabel Port has found herself in some bizarre and, let’s say, diverse situations. She’s sneaked around Google HQ in search of ball pools. She’s exhibited her own conceptual art at the Tate Modern (unofficially). She’s been a real-life shop mannequin at Mulberry. There were the attempts to overthrow Prince Andrew and befriend Vladimir Putin, as well as become an erotic-fiction writer, a self-help guru and immortal. “BUT WHY?” you might ask. “I mean, befriending Putin makes sense, but who’d want to write erotic fiction?!” The answer is this: Annabel’s spent the bulk of her professional life working as a radio presenter, and some time ago, her co-presenter, Geoff Lloyd, grew concerned that she was slipping into a premature old age – although he mostly just wanted to make amusing radio. So, the challenges began, and Annabel transformed into someone more daring than she’d ever imagined. Annabel vs the Internet is a hilarious, off-kilter and entirely true collection of Annabel’s favourite stories from these challenges that’ll leave you marvelling at the kindness of strangers and dumbfounded by Annabel’s audacity.

Book Yogananda Gurdjieff Jung I AM

Download or read book Yogananda Gurdjieff Jung I AM written by John Maxwell Taylor and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2024-01-24 with total page 547 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yogananda, Gurdjieff, Jung & I AM: My Adventures in Life and Consciousness is John Maxwell Taylor’s wild romp through sixty years of consciousness-raising meditation to find bliss, joy, happiness, and our true nature as humans… Are you ready to join him on this journey? Inspired by yogi Paramahansa Yogananda, spiritual teacher G. I. Gurdjieff, and mystical psychologist Carl Jung, John Maxwell considers himself a rock ’n’ roll mystic, who came to spirituality when he was a singer/guitarist in the 1960s. As flashy as was his life then, so was his spiritual transformation: for a moment, the world literally disappeared in the light of God. In an engaging style, with thrills and humor sprinkled throughout, John Maxwell invites the reader to become emotionally connected not just with him through his autobiography but with themselves. He offers his own life lessons that can be applied immediately to readers’ own lives so that they too can fulfill their destiny. Unlike most Western self-help books that preach thinking about concepts, John Maxwell offers a more truthful path forward into enlightenment: feeling through direct experience.

Book Why I Never Had Kids

Download or read book Why I Never Had Kids written by Michael Matre and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2020-03-23 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After writing and publishing myriad newspaper and magazine articles beginning in my junior year of high school, as a journalism major at Bowling Green State University, and during my four-year career as a military writer in the United States Air Force, I wanted to write and publish a book. Beyond the many plays I have written, two of which have been produced by community theater groups, writing a book is the only writer's challenge I have yet to accomplish. Knowing that nonfiction is often the better choice for a first-time author regarding publication as opposed to fiction, I decided to write a memoir about my adventurous and mischievous childhood through my maturation as a fulfilled adult. The title Why I Never Had Kids struck me as being appropriate because it is the truth. Neither my wife, Fran, nor I ever wanted to deal with the childhood antics, some just downright dangerous, related in this book. I started making the notes two years ago and wrote the book in about two months after retiring from my corporate job in late 2018. Most of the incidents were fun and easy to write, but some were not. The pieces "Losing Pepper" and "The Wreck in West Virginia" resurrected painful memories but had to be included. This book is absolutely a work of nonfiction. The dialogue is as close to being exact as I can remember it. The incidents are correct. Everything you read here really happened. Reference is made to my mother's sometimes stinging sense of discipline, but she was in no way a child beater. She was a lovely, loving woman who made sure that my brother, sister, and I were properly fed, clothed, and grew up in a well-maintained home. She reveled in our successes and softened our failures, but Mom had rules. You didn't talk back, swear, sneak cigarettes, or drink Dad's beer. We all came out the better for that. Mom and Dad did things that I do not think I could have done as a parent, particularly the family vacations that took us hundreds of miles from home by car, with Dad doing the driving. I had a wonderful childhood, and the intent of this work is to deliver testimony to that and to entertain you as well.
