Book Solar Power and Energy Storage Systems

Download or read book Solar Power and Energy Storage Systems written by Hee-Je Kim and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-03-04 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensive study of solar energy is increasing as fast as the threat of global warming is getting serious. Solar energy is considered the best source of renewable energy because it is clean and unlimited. Solar radiation can be harnessed and converted into different forms of energy that does not pollute the environment. In order to transform solar radiation, we need collectors of sunlight, such as solar cells. The main challenges are energy security, the increasing prices of carbon-based energy sources, and global warming. We cannot use sunlight during the night, so an energy storage system (ESS) is necessary. The best ESS is one with high power and high energy density. This book introduces the basic concepts of an ESS. Written by Prof. Hee-Je Kim, who leads an interdisciplinary team at the Pusan National University, this book compiles and details the cutting-edge research that is revolutionizing solar energy by improving its efficiency and storage techniques through the development of engineered sunlight. It discusses the fabrication and commercialization of next-generation solar cells such as dye-synthesized, quantum-dot, and perovskite solar cells, besides describing the high-energy and power-density-flexible supercapacitor for a hybrid ESS, as well as the dual active bridge (DAB), DC/DC converter, MPPT, PV inverter, and remote control by a smartphone with a novel algorithm for a power-conditioning system.

Book Agroindustrial Waste for Green Fuel Application

Download or read book Agroindustrial Waste for Green Fuel Application written by Neha Srivastava and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book revisit in depth scope of agroindustrial waste for enhancement in biofuels production on practical ground. It explores and discusses various cellulose rich agro-wastes along with low cost, advance technology based options for sustainable biofuels production. Lignocellulosic biomasses are potential producer of biofuels due to renewable nature and huge occurrence. Cellulose is the main polymeric component of these biomasses apart from lignin and hemicellulose. It can be converted into fermentable sugars using cellulase enzyme which can be further converted into the renewable energy sources such as biohydrogen, bioethanol, biogas and butanol. Chapters in this title provide exclusive and critical analysis of specific biofuels production process only from lignocellulosic biomass, based on their type, property, availability, cost and most important sugar or cellulose content along with the simplest process search for converting these biomasses into biofuels to make overall process more simple and economical. It is a useful guide for academician and environmentalist who are working to explore feasible advantages associated with these kinds of waste management and their effective valorization. It is also a great resource for senior undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, professionals, and other interested individuals/groups working in the field of biofuel/bioenergy.

Book Harold Gasson s Steam Days

Download or read book Harold Gasson s Steam Days written by Harold Gasson and published by Crecy. This book was released on 2020-12-12 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Harold Gasson first put pen to paper more than forty years ago, it was at a time when there was a growing resurgence of interest in the steam railway. Three of his books described his life as a fireman based at Didcot shed from the early 1940s. Firing Days was followed by Footplate Days and then Nostalgia Days. Finally, after Harold had forsaken the footplate for the signal box, came the final instalment, Signalling Days. All were eagerly sought after at the time for they described the railway readers wanted to hear about, providing a nostalgic perspective which could be enjoyed from the comfort of one’s arm chair. Out of print for several decades, all four books have now been reprinted and are available together for the first time complete with a new set of illustrations. The steam engines and most of the mechanical signal boxes of Harold’s working days may have been long consigned to history but in these well-written and enjoyable books they are brought vividly back to life for a new audience to enjoy as well for those who recall his era for whom these tales will reawaken treasured memories.

Book Dying Green

    Book Details:
  • Author : Christine Vatovec
  • Publisher : Rutgers University Press
  • Release : 2023-04-14
  • ISBN : 1978832125
  • Pages : 121 pages

Download or read book Dying Green written by Christine Vatovec and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2023-04-14 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The slow violence being inflicted on our environment—through everything from carbon emissions to plastic pollution—also represents an impending public health catastrophe. Yet standard health care practices are more concerned with short-term outcomes than long-term sustainability. Every resource used to deliver medical care, from IV tubes to antibiotics to electricity, has a significant environmental impact. This raises an urgent ethical dilemma: in striving to improve the health outcomes of individual patients, are we damaging human health on a global scale? In Dying Green, award-winning educator Christine Vatovec offers an engaging study that asks us to consider the broader environmental sustainability of health care. Through a comparative analysis of the care provided to terminally ill patients in a conventional cancer ward, a palliative care unit, and an acute-care hospice facility, she shows how decisions made at a patient’s bedside govern the environmental footprint of the healthcare industry. Likewise, Dying Green offers insights on the many opportunities that exist for reducing the ecological impacts of medical practices in general, while also enhancing care for the dying in particular. By envisioning a more sustainable approach to care, this book offers a way forward that is better for both patients and the planet.
