Book Greek Manuals of Church Doctrines Classic Reprint

Download or read book Greek Manuals of Church Doctrines Classic Reprint written by H. T. F. Duckworth and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-30 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Greek Manuals of Church Doctrines Some little time ago the Eastern Church Associa tion published a short account of the Teaching of the Russian Church. Now, owing to the kind ness of Mr. Duckworth, we are able to place at the disposal of our members a similar work on the Greek branch of the Eastern Church. This account has the advantage of being some what more authoritative, as Mr. Duckworth has an intimate personal knowledge of the inner workings of the Greek Church, and has put before us the current teaching in the Catechisms drawn up for present use. The first point that we notice is the great pains which is taken that all members of the Orthodox Church may have an accurate knowledge of the teaching of the body to which they belong. It is clear that if the system which is described in these pages is carried out, the charge of ignorance which is commonly brought against the oriental churches cannot be for a moment sustained. The Greek layman must know a great deal more about his Church than the average English layman. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Development of Doctrine in the Early Church

Download or read book The Development of Doctrine in the Early Church written by John S. Banks and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-31 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Development of Doctrine in the Early Church: Author of Manual of Christian Doctrine"; "Scripture and Its Witnesses" The Roman Catholic Church, in keeping with its view of the Church as the divine interpreter of God's will on earth, regards the decisions of General Councils (in later ages these were under its own direction) as obligatory. The Greek Church takes the same attitude in regard to the early Councils. All other Churches hold themselves free on the question, although they differ in the'amount of deference shown to early Church authority. The Anglican Church, which pays the greatest regard to that authority, says in its Articles that General Councils have erred. It may be said that the evangelical Free Churches hold by the substance of the three Creeds, although they may criticise the terms. The Reformation made no change inthis respect. Its controversies turned on doctrines of another class. Ittacitly accepted the system of doctrine defined in the three Creeds, The same is true of evangelical churches generally. Book Manual of Christian Doctrine

Download or read book Manual of Christian Doctrine written by and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Christian Doctrine: Comprising Dogma, Moral and Worship This book is intended as a manual of religious instruction not only in the Novitiates and Scholasticates of teaching Congregations, but also in the classes of High Schools, Academies, and Colleges. Although it is an abridgment of the three volumes, Dogma, Moral, and Worship, that constitute the Intermediate Course of Religious Instruction, it does not sacrifice clearness, precision, or method. In the Intermediate Course the teacher will find matter for explanation and development and also synoptic tables for review. For the pupil the present volume is sufficiently complete to impart that knowledge of religion, which, in the words of St. Paul, is according to doctrine: that he may he able to exhort in sound doctrine, and to convince the gain-sayers. Book Spirago s Method of Christian Doctrine

Download or read book Spirago s Method of Christian Doctrine written by Francis Spirago and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-04 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spirago's Method of Christian Doctrine: A Manual for Priests, Teachers, and Parents The Rev. Francis Spirago, the author of this work, is Professor of Religion at the Normal School in Trautenau, Austria. Some time ago he published a popular explanation of the Catechism ("Volkskatechismus"), which in a few years had an astonishing sale. It was translated into English under the title "The Catechism Explained," and is very popular with priests and lay catechists wherever English is spoken. Last year Spirago published the "Handbuch der Special methodic des Katholischen Religionsunterrichtes," the present work. But as he tells us in his preface, it was written nearly ten years ago, during which time he has kept revising and improving the book, giving it the benefit of ten years' experience in teaching Religion. He says further, "I have endeavored to apply to religious instruction the principles of modern pedagogics, which, on the whole, have produced great results in the field of education." In regard to the need of following a certain method specially adapted to the teaching of Catholic truth to children and other uninstructed persons, the author remarks: "Religious instruction closely resembles the practice of medical science. We pity the man who would enter upon a course of healing diseases totally heedless of the advice of practical and able physicians and the experience of past centuries. Still more would we pity the patients falling into the hands of such a quack whose maxim is: Experiment is better than study. What applies to physicians and the care of the body likewise holds good for the teacher of religion and the care of the souls of the young.
