Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Doing well with money isn’t necessarily about what you know. It’s about how you behave. And behavior is hard to teach, even to really smart people. Money—investing, personal finance, and business decisions—is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money and teaches you how to make better sense of one of life’s most important topics.

Book excerpt: To the modern mind, the concept of poverty is often confused with destitution. But destitution emphatically is not the Gospel ideal. A love-filled sharing frugality is the message, and Happy Are You Poor explains the meaning of this beatitude lived and taught by Jesus himself. But isn't simplicity in lifestyle meant only for nuns and priests? Are not all of us to enjoy the goodness and beauties of our magnificent creation? Are parents to be frugal with the children they love so much? The renowned spiritual writer Dubay gives surprising replies to these questions. He explains how material things are like extensions of our persons and thus of our love. If everyone lived this love there would be no destitution. After presenting the richness of the Gospel message, more beautiful than any other world view, he explains how Gospel frugality is lived in each state of life.

With everyone running off to Haiti or Africa to volunteer, and renouncing their corporate lifestyles, people have forgotten that greed is what drives this country. If it weren’t for our nation’s top corporate executives, we wouldn’t have gotten to where we are today. Someone has to speak out about the overlooked qualities of greed. There’s been too much whining the widening gap between the haves and have nots. It should be bigger! Ladies, do you want to go out with a guy who has no job and lives with his mother? Of course not! He may be good for a romp in the hay, but let’s face it, there’s no future there. Don’t you ever get tired of hearing about Mother Theresa or Bill Gates, and all the wonderful things they’re doing for nothing? What a bunch of idiots. And if I have to hear about another Hollywood moron who has jetted off to Haiti to “help out” for nothing… I’m going to barf. Who cares about people from Haiti? They don’t contribute anything to the global economy, anyway. So if you’re like us, you’re tired of the snivelers and the whiners. You’ll want to learn more about how you can promote the healthy qualities of greed. Embrace your greedy inner child. This book will transform your life and make you feel great about yourself!

The book is not complicated like many books that talk about the stock market and do nothing more than confuse the reader and build the writer's ego, but instead, it is filled with the knowledge that the reader can put to use. The book is packed full of wisdom for those who are new to the stock market. This book is not for those who are looking to become billionaires overnight but for those who want to grow their wealth over the long term and enjoy a comfortable life when they are older. There are plenty of stories about how greedy people have lost fortunes as well. You learn about the mindset of wealth and why that is important. The most important lesson that you will learn in this book is that how well you do with money has nothing to do with how smart you are, but it has everything to do with how you behave. That is why so many rich people end up broke after such a short period. They don’t know how to behave. However, it also means that an ordinary person can grow their wealth if they can learn a few behavioral skills. Book The Greedy Hand

Download or read book The Greedy Hand written by Amity Shlaes and published by Random House. This book was released on 2012-04-25 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Greedy Hand is an illuminating examination of the culture of tax and a persuasive call for reform, written by one of the nation's leading policy makers, Amity Shlaes of The Wall Street Journal. The father of the modern American state was an obscure Macy's department store executive named Beardsley Ruml. During World War II, he devised the plan for withholding taxes from your paycheck, thereby laying in place a system that allows the hand of government to reach into your wallet and take what it wants. Today, taxes make up more than a third of our economy, the highest level in history outside war. We live in the nation revolutionary father Thomas Paine foresaw when he wrote of "the Greedy Hand of government thrusting itself into every corner of industry." This book is a cultural examination of the way taxes influence our behavior, how they force us into an arbitrary system that punishes families and individual enterprise. Amity Shlaes unveils the hidden perversities of our lifelong tax experience: how family tax breaks do little to help the family, and can even hurt it. She demonstrates how married women pay a special women's tax rate, higher than anybody else's. She shows how problems that engage and enrage us--Social Security problems, or the things we don't like about schools--are, at heart, tax problems. And she explains why the solutions Washington offers merely accelerate a vicious cycle. Finally, Amity Shlaes shows us a way out of this madness, endorsing a number of common-sense reforms that will give all Americans a fairer and simpler tax system. Written with eloquent compassion for working Americans and their families, The Greedy Hand makes the best case yet for rethinking our tax code. It is a book no tax-paying citizen can afford to ignore.

Book The Eight Answers for Happiness

Download or read book The Eight Answers for Happiness written by Hooseo B. Park and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-12-20 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although everybody in the world is singing about love, dream, money, and happiness, ironically, not many people know what these things really are. I became an artist for my dream, which was to do something for the environment, and I came to New York City for the dream. But ironically, I realized that I didnt even know what the environment really was before I came to New York City. I have done a nonprofit sign campaign for the environment in Times Square in the fall of 2011 and spring of 2014. I saw and met many people who were from all over the world. The people and New York City have given me some answers in life. To do something for the environment, I have also picked up a lot of cigarette butts that no one really cared about on the streets of New York City. Then I put the thrown cigarette butts into many different glass jars. I have slowly realized that the most important thing for the environment was happinessbecause happiness is the primary reason for all lives. There are many different reasons for each of our lives, but all the reasons lean to one point. That is happiness. And unhappiness is the third pollution source that makes people careless with everything. No one can well take care of other things if the persons level of happiness is too low. We have to be happy first no matter what. To be happy, we need to know what happiness really is, as well as the other very important things in life. These eight things are the answers that Ive learned from my life and from New York City.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Change initiatives fail because humans are hardwired to return to what's worked for us in the past. In this book, she shows how we can overcome that reluctance and get good at making necessary change. Using a fictional story about a jewelry business changing generational hands, Andersen lays out a five-step model for addressing both this human side of change and its practical aspects: Step 1: Clarify the change and why it's needed—Get clear on what the change is and the benefits it will bring. Step 2: Envision the future state—Build a shared picture of the post-change future. Step 3: Build the change—Bring together a change team, engage key stakeholders, and plan the change. Step 4: Lead the transition—Build a transition plan that supports the human side of the change, then engage the whole organization in making the change. Step 5: Keep the change going—Work to make your organization permanently more change-capable.
