OUR STORY Traveling is a passion of the Greater than a Tourist book series creator. Lisa studied abroad in college, and for their honeymoon Lisa and her husband toured Europe. During her travels to Malta, an older man tried to give her some advice based on his own experience living on the island since he was a young boy. She was not sure if she should talk to the stranger but was interested in his advice. When traveling to some places she was wary to talk to locals because she was afraid that they weren't being genuine. Through her travels, Lisa learned how much locals had to share with tourists. She encounters Benjamin James, now a drifting, alcoholic longshoreman, who'd been implicated in the murder of his brother during Anna Maria's childhood. Benjamin decides to join her on the journey. Hostilities build to a head between James and his wife's father-the august revolutionary war veteran Samson Starret-as well as Sarah's ex-suitor, Williamsport's Thomas Tillman, a man fixated on this woman whom an ex-slave stole from him on the eve of their arranged marriage. The scenes of The Indigo Scarf take the reader from a plantation in Virginia's tidewater region to the tragic end of a whiskey and timber-pirating operation on the Susquehanna's un-peopled and feral West Branch during the frontier decades after Pennsylvania's last Indian purchase.

In the past, dangerous levels of hunting and industrial development forever altered Pennsylvania's natural landscape and drove its native elk to near extinction. In response, concerned sportsmen and conservationists pushed the state legislature to create a game commission in the late 1800s to enforce game laws and protect the herd. The Pennsylvania Game Commission then sought to reintroduce the once mighty elk herd in the early twentieth century, shipping fifty elk via train from Jackson Hole and Yellowstone. Conservation movements continued to enhance the state's environmental landscape that faced new threats from logging and mining industries and by the 1980s, the Wilds was on a path to full restoration.
