Book Greater Than Yourself

Download or read book Greater Than Yourself written by Steve Farber and published by Crown Currency. This book was released on 2009-03-03 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Too many people assume the timeless principles of true leadership—of helping others achieve their full potential—don’t apply Monday through Friday during work hours or in any circumstance where a paycheck is involved. In GREATER THAN YOURSELF, Steve Farber proves them wrong: in this powerful and inspiring story, Farber shows that the goal of a genuine leader is to help others—teammates, employees, and colleagues—become more capable, confident, and accomplished than they are themselves. Through the actions of a forward-thinking and extraordinarily successful CEO, Farber reveals the three keys to achieving this: Expand Yourself, Give Yourself, and Replicate Yourself. This new edition includes a special afterword by UCSD’s Dr Alan Daly and Neville Billimoria featuring the social science behind the concept of Greater Than Yourself. Filled with actionable principles and innovative ideas, GREATER THAN YOURSELF is perhaps the most powerful message today’s business leaders can learn.

Book Greater Than Ever

Download or read book Greater Than Ever written by Daniel L. Doctoroff and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deputy Mayor Daniel L. Doctoroff led New York's dramatic and unexpected economic resurgence after the September 11 terrorist attacks. With Mayor Michael Bloomberg, he developed a remarkably ambitious five-borough economic development plan to not only recover from the attacks but to completely transform New York's economy: New neighborhoods were created. Hundreds of thousands of jobs were generated. The largest municipal affordable housing plan in American history was completed. Ground Zero was rebuilt. And New York adopted a pathbreaking sustainability plan. None of this was straightforward. New York has some of the most entrenched financial and political interests anywhere, and it has a population that is quick to let its public officials know exactly what is on its mind. Doctoroff's plans for a New York Olympic Games and a stadium on the West Side crashed and burned, but phoenix-like he engineered the transformation of the city anyway. Greater than Ever is a bracing adventure'when can-do attitude dove headlong into New York's unique realpolitik of "fuggedaboutit"'during which the city was changed for the better.

Book Greater Than Angels

Download or read book Greater Than Angels written by Carol Matas and published by Scholastic Canada. This book was released on 2013-10 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An unforgettable reminder of the resilience of human compassion, even in the face of the worst horrors of our history. In the autumn of 1940, Anna Hirsch and her friends and family are rounded up by Nazis and deported to Gurs, a refugee camp in the south of France. Food is scarce, and the living conditions inhumane. Even worse is the ever-present fear that they will be relocated once again -- this time to one of the death camps. But when word comes that Anna and the other children are to be moved, their destination is not Auschwitz or Buchenwald, but Le Chambon-sur-Lignon: a tiny village whose citizens have agreed to care for deported Jewish children. Based on the true story of a French village that banded together to protect the Jews during WWII, this unforgettable tale honours the contagious goodness that permeated one corner of a region otherwise enveloped in evil, and celebrates the courage of all those who put their lives at risk to save others.

Book Love Is Greater Than Pain

Download or read book Love Is Greater Than Pain written by Marilyn Kapp and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2020-06-02 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An extraordinary new mindful approach to healing after loss that taps into everyone’s ability to continue their relationship with those who have passed. “Marilyn’s vast and masterful experience in communicating with passed loved ones illustrate what they want to teach us.”—Betty Jampel, LCSW When Marilyn Kapp was two years old, she watched her grandfather leave his body. He told her he would be back and he was true to his word. When Marilyn realized that others did not share her perception of the spiritual plane, she kept her channeling abilities to herself and her family. This changed when, as a college student, she met writer, Holocaust survivor, and future Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel. He became her mentor and encouraged her to use her perception to help others. In Love Is Greater Than Pain, Marilyn shares her profound understanding of the afterlife. Today a renowned medium, Marilyn reveals the beauty in the transition from the physical to the spiritual plane, helping those who are dying, as well as those left behind. With personal stories and transcripts from channeling sessions, Marilyn teaches us how to interact with the afterlife and to joyfully embrace the reality that love truly is greater than pain. Marilyn shares universal messages of comfort, forgiveness, and understanding, including specific guidance for bereaved parents, for those dealing with dementia, and even for people who are grieving for their animal friends. Marilyn’s groundbreaking seminal work offers practical advice, clear takeaways, and a new approach to death, grieving, and living your best life, sharing concrete steps for: • Raising your personal vibration to increase health, joy, and the ability to receive channeled information and love. • Helping yourself and others honor life while grieving. • Understanding the parallel process of growth that we share with those who have passed. When we honor life as we grieve, we offer healing and support to one another, as well as conscious collaboration with those who have passed.

Throughout the book he addresses various questions that come up for seekers, such as: How do I find peace, joy, love and happiness? Is it really possible for an ordinary person with a job and family to attain enlightenment? Are intimate relationships a help or a hindrance to awakening? I don't believe in God, and I don't consider myself a devotional type of person, but the word Truth resonates with me - are your teachings relevant to me? You use the phrase 'timeless presence'. What does it mean? How can anything be timeless? How does one transcend personal conditioning and suppressed emotions, and so come to lasting freedom? If we are essentially free, why does it seem so difficult and distant, so remote or rare to realise the Truth? Through our own earnest search for truth, Mooji helps us arrive at the answers, not by offering concepts but by leading us back to our hidden yet inherent knowing.

Download or read book Greater than Equal written by Sarah Caroline Thuesen and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2013-08-01 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the half century preceding widespread school integration, black North Carolinians engaged in a dramatic struggle for equal educational opportunity as segregated schooling flourished. Drawing on archival records and oral histories, Sarah Thuesen gives voice to students, parents, teachers, school officials, and civic leaders to reconstruct this high-stakes drama. She explores how African Americans pressed for equality in curricula, higher education, teacher salaries, and school facilities; how white officials co-opted equalization as a means of forestalling integration; and, finally, how black activism for equality evolved into a fight for something "greater than equal--integrated schools that served as models of civic inclusion. These battles persisted into the Brown era, mobilized black communities, narrowed material disparities, fostered black school pride, and profoundly shaped the eventual movement for desegregation. Thuesen emphasizes that the remarkable achievements of this activism should not obscure the inherent limitations of a fight for equality in a segregated society. In fact, these unresolved struggles are emblematic of fault lines that developed across the South, and serve as an urgent reminder of the inextricable connections between educational equality, racial diversity, and the achievement of first-class citizenship.

Book excerpt: Greater Than is another bold collection of poetry from James J. Adams. This is James’s first published collection of poetry in seven years. Though the author has not published and shared his material with the public in several years, this collection is the result of his time spent reflecting, observing, and being a good student of the world. The author labored over this collection, taking in the noise and confusion of the world. The encouraging message of the book is people striving for greatness must not be swayed, distracted, or get lost in the chaos. The author concludes that greatness isn’t necessarily any particular career, athletic, or monetary achievements. Rather, individual or group greatness is a matter of spiritual success and positive as well as lasting contributions to the lives of others.
