Book Marine Protected Areas for Whales Dolphins and Porpoises

Download or read book Marine Protected Areas for Whales Dolphins and Porpoises written by Erich Hoyt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-10-02 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of the widely praised Marine Protected Areas for Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises, published in 2005, led to numerous new marine protected area proposals and a number of notable conservation successes around the world. In this completely revised and expanded second edition, new developments in the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Pacific are described, as well as future directions for High Seas protection. New sections show how to design and manage MPAs in an ever noisier ocean subject to climate change, increased shipping and hydrocarbon exploration. The process of protected area creation for cetaceans has been accelerated and more than 200 exciting new places are detailed in this edition. This book provides a route map for MPA managers, as well as countries, to meet the ambitious targets for highly protected MPA networks by 2012 and 2020. This book is a key conservation tool and a springboard for worldwide change in human attitudes toward the world ocean where all life originated and where the majority of life on Earth still lives.

Book Cruising the Queensland Coast Third Edition

Download or read book Cruising the Queensland Coast Third Edition written by Greg Luck and published by Luck Consulting Pty Ltd. This book was released on 2023-11-22 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cruising the Queensland Coast is a cruising guide for yachts cruising the Queensland coast. Each of the 13 coasts, from the Gold Coast to the Cooktown Coast, is covered in detail, including marinas, anchorages, passages, wind and wave averages, public pontoons and quick reference information and links for vital weather, search and rescue, notices to mariners and other vital information. It features hundreds of chartlets and high-resolution aerial photos of anchorages to take the guesswork out of anchoring. Each anchorage has information on depth, bottom, mobile reception, marine park zone and recommended wind directions and strengths. The book is also integrated with Navionics and C-Map. Anchorages and passages can be imported into Navionics and C-Map via GPX link ⎈ icons throughout the book. The book also provides an extensive reference of useful information for the Queensland Coast such as skills and experience, recommended apps, charts and books, equipping the yacht for cruising, cruising logistics, climate and weather systems, marine hazards and the three major marine parks and their rules. This book will help get the first-time cruiser of the Queensland coast started. For those familiar with the coast, the wealth of information, data and links all pulled together into one place and organised in a systematic way will prove invaluable. For both, the more than one thousand external reference links make it easier to cruise the coast safely and simplify many of the everyday tasks of living on a cruising yacht such as finding and entering a marina and restocking once there.

  • Pages : 433 pages

Download or read book Big Bold and Blue written by Geoff Wescott and published by CSIRO PUBLISHING. This book was released on 2016-07 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world’s oceans cover about 70% of our planet. To safeguard the delicate ecological and environmental functions of the oceans and their remarkable biodiversity, networks of marine protected areas are being created. In some of these areas, human activity is restricted to non-exploitative activities and in others it is managed in a sustainable way. Australia is at the forefront of marine conservation, with one of the largest systems of marine protected areas in the world. Big, Bold and Blue: Lessons from Australia’s Marine Protected Areas captures Australia’s experience, sharing important lessons from the Great Barrier Reef and many other extraordinary marine protected areas. It presents real-world examples, leading academic research, perspectives on government policy, and information from indigenous sea country management, non-governmental organisations, and commercial and recreational fishing sectors. The lessons learnt during the rapid expansion of Australia’s marine protected areas, both positive and negative, will aid and advise other nations in their own marine conservation efforts.

Book Deep Learning for Marine Science

Download or read book Deep Learning for Marine Science written by Haiyong Zheng and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-05-15 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deep learning (DL), mainly composed of deep and complex neural networks such as recurrent network and convolutional network, is an emerging research branch in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning. DL revolution has a far-reaching impact on all scientific disciplines and every corner of our lives. With continuing technological advances, marine science is entering into the big data era with the exponential growth of information. DL is an effective means of harnessing the power of big data. Combined with unprecedented data from cameras, acoustic recorders, satellite remote sensing, and large model outputs, DL enables scientists to solve complex problems in biology, ecosystems, climate, energy, as well as physical and chemical interactions. Although DL has made great strides, it is still only beginning to emerge in many fields of marine science, especially towards representative applications and best practices for the automatic analysis of marine organisms and marine environments. DL in nowadays' marine science mainly leverages cutting-edge techniques of deep neural networks and massive data which collected by in-situ optical or acoustic imaging sensors for underwater applications, such as plankton classification and coral reef detection. This research topic aims to expand the applications of marine science to cover all aspects of detection, classification, segmentation, localization, and density estimation of marine objects, organisms, and phenomena.
