Roman mysteriously disappears after graduation, but they meet again when he rescues Pete after his Phantom is shot down over Laos. Roman, now a Navy SEAL using an alias, denies they know each other. He leaves on another rescue mission hoping that his deception has not been uncovered, while Pete returns to his aircraft carrier puzzled at his old friend's behavior. They leave the military deeply scarred by the war and choose vastly different careers. Pete becomes a writer and Roman an assassin for a secret vigilante organization. Both complicate their lives with relationships involving beautiful, self-assured women. While Roman is on the run for murder, he hijacks Pete's Cessna 182 and orders him to fly far out over the Gulf of Mexico. The cramped cockpit soon becomes the arena for a contest of survival. During their death struggle they enter a graveyard spiral, and one is thrown from the aircraft. But the lone occupant in the cockpit may not be the victor after all. His fight for survival has only begun.

Book Memoir Dynamite Check Six

Download or read book Memoir Dynamite Check Six written by Ray Jones and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book isnt primarily about relationships. Theres no romance involved--not even any close friendships. Its mostly about flying machines and their missions. But people are important. After all, pilots fly the machines. There are a lot of characters here that aviation buffs will immediately recognize: Lots of record-setting test pilots, and even some astronauts. Older non-buffs will also see familiar names: an aviation legend, first-ever moon walkers, a couple of popular entertainers, a famous TV-news anchor and even two former presidential candidates. Watch closely, some of them just flash past. Airplanes star in this tale. None of them were perfect, but many of them excelled performing their assigned tasks. North American Aircrafts F-86F was a beautiful machine. But it was also a breathtakingly-good MiG killer. Because of its fine flying qualities, it was fun to fly--a sports car among sedans. Fairchild/Chase Aircrafts C-123B was an outstanding assault transport. It was almost perfect for its mission in Vietnam, but it could be a real handful for any pilot to fly. I have lots of favorite airplanes, but Douglas A-1H Skyraider stands out. There has never been a better attack fighter in terms of accuracy in iron-bomb delivery, weapons load-carrying ability or endurance. Lockheeds F-104A or C models were many pilots dream machines. Their luster dimmed somewhat for me after I flew them. But they were certainly suitable for training Test Pilot School students to perform zooms and shuttle-aircraft type approaches and landings. Ill stop with these four. Theres much more on airplanes inside--about 192,000 words worth. Thats a lot to slog through and you may find some parts too technical or too detailed. Ignore them. There are also many numbers, but most arent important. Browse for good stuff. If you want more info on some airplane, Google her up.

Book Bits of Practical Wisdom

Download or read book Bits of Practical Wisdom written by Vernon Gilbert and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-01-21 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God gave man dominion over the earth, and the practical wisdom to use it for his good and His glory God placed the treasures of the earth for mans benefit. Political correctness denies Gods goodness, while practical wisdom directs thankful use of His bounty. We were told we could not drill our way out of our problems while practical thinking doers were proving the stupidity of the statement. Ivory tower thinking is of little use to our progress while practical planning is our salvation from crisis. Dishonest charlatans pursue politically correct ideologies, while wise people use practical solutions. Practical plans always trump divisive dreams. Practical planning and hard work built our great nation political correctness and sloth are destroying it. Practical truthfulness applied to our many problems can, in Gods will, overcome the evil plans of our dishonest, lying oppressors. The Golden Rule Jesus gave us is the epitome of practical consideration of others. The Marshall plan after WW II was practical wisdom applied pacification of Islam before WW III is ideological suicide. Practical plans and hard work built this great nation - ivory tower thinking and slothfulness is its doom. Practical workers build houses on rock foundations Foolish men build on sand, and great is their fall. See Matthew 7: 24-27. A practical man planning to build a tower, sits down first and counts the cost. See Luke 14:28. Practical people energetically earn their keep and support others lazy dreamers feel entitled to exist on the fruits of others efforts. Practical politicians endorse responsible, truthful fiscal policies dishonest liars waste our resources and leave the pitiful mess for our grandchildren to suffer under. Impractical charlatans promise anything to gain power practical planners tell the truth, even when it is unpopular. The lies of evil leaders imprison the souls of the masses the truth shall make us free. See John 8:32. Peace and joy come to practical people. Dishonest dreamers exist in turmoil and fear. One practical person benefits the community more than a score of entitled lay-abouts.

Book The Neurosciences and the Practice of Aviation Medicine

Download or read book The Neurosciences and the Practice of Aviation Medicine written by Anthony N. Nicholson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings the neurosciences to operational and clinical aviation medicine. It is concerned with the physiology and pathology of circadian rhythmicity, orientation, hypotension and hypoxia, and with disorders of the central nervous system relevant to the practice of aviation medicine. The chapters on circadian rhythmicity and orientation deal with the impaired alertness and sleep disturbance associated with desynchrony and with the effects of linear and angular accelerations on spatial awareness. Hypotension and hypoxia cover cerebral function during increased gravitational stress, clinical aspects of exposure to acute hypoxia, the mild hypoxia of the cabin of transport aircraft, adaptation and acclimatization to altitude and decompression at extreme altitudes and in space. Disorders of particular significance to the practice of aviation medicine such as excessive daytime sleepiness, epilepsy, syncope, hypoglycaemia, headache and traumatic brain injury are covered, while neuro-ophthalmology, the vestibular system and hearing also receive detailed attention. The potentially adverse effects of the aviation environment and of disorders of the nervous system are brought together, and the text covers the neurological examination as it relates to aircrew and explores current management and therapeutics. The Neurosciences and the Practice of Aviation Medicine is an essential work for those involved in the practice of aviation medicine where familiarity with the effects of the aviation environment on the nervous system and understanding the pathophysiology of relevant clinical disorders are of prime concern. The authors from leading centres of excellence are physiologists concerned with the aviation environment and physicians involved in the day-to-day practice of medicine. They bring to this authoritative text wide experience and expertise in both the experimental and clinical neurosciences.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In What Universities Can Be, the high-profile educator Robert J. Sternberg writes thoughtfully about the direction of higher education in this country and its potential to achieve future excellence. Sternberg presents, for the first time, his concept of the ACCEL model, in which institutions of higher education are places where students learn to become Active Concerned Citizens and Ethical Leaders. One of the greatest problems in our society is a lack of leaders who understand the importance of behaving in ethical ways for the common good of all. At a time when new models of education are sorely needed, universities have the opportunity to claim the education of future leaders as their mission. In the course of laying out the ACCEL concept and how such a model might be achieved, Sternberg offers many insights into the realities of higher education as it is practiced today and suggests ways that we could move in a better direction, one that would produce graduates who make the world a better place in which to live. Sternberg's compelling narrative and convincing argument address all aspects of universities, such as admissions, financial aid, instruction and assessment, retention and graduation, student life, diversity, finances, athletics, governance, and marketing. This book is essential reading for educators and laypeople who are interested in learning how our universities work and how they could work better.
