Book excerpt: THE PERFECT PATH TO HAPPINESS AND A HEALTHIER PLANET. True and lasting happiness seems to be the rarest thing on Earth. Why? Because we've all been misled. We've been taught to seek happiness through external means like - making as much money as we can, finding the perfect life partner, and hoarding as many material possessions as possible. Billions of humans are on this exact same flawed and unsustainable trajectory. Everyone is grasping at tiny shreds of temporary happiness and scrambling to acquire and consume. Sadly, this method of seeking happiness is not only ineffective, it's putting our planet and all of the lifeforms we share it with in great peril. The truth is, if we haven't already discovered a way to find lasting happiness within ourselves, nothing or no one will ever truly satisfy our feelings of yearning and discontentment. What's the answer to this conundrum? Mindfulness. Mindfulness is the perfect path to true and lasting happiness. It's also a prescription for the empty, frazzled, and disconnected feelings often associated with our toxic and frenetic modern life. The flow-state of mindfulness is a kind of altered consciousness that allows you to experience your life in a deeper and more substantial way and maintain happiness despite external conditions. When you're existing in this mindful stream of consciousness your entire being is transformed - your mood is improved, you're more positive, you feel more grateful and content. As a result the day's events unfold more effortlessly and you naturally attract more good things into your life. I truly believe that mindfulness has the power to heal our entire world, one person at a time. It's my wish that the next person is you.

Book Grasping the Moment

Download or read book Grasping the Moment written by Christopher Baber and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-10-03 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ways in which organizations make use of information available to them to make decisions and manage activity is an essential topic of investigation for human factors. When the information is uncertain, incomplete or subject to change, then decision making and activity management can become challenging. Under such circumstances, it has become commonplace to use the concept of sensemaking as the lens through which to view organizational behavior. This book offers a unique perspective on sensemaking through its consideration of the variety of ways in which Incident Response is managed by the Police. As an incident moves from the initial call handling to subsequent mobilization of response to first officer attending, a wide range of information is acquired, processed and shared, and the organization (and individuals who work within it) face challenges of making sense of the situation to which they are responding. Moving from routine incidents to large-scale emergencies, the authors explore how sensemaking is influenced and affected by the challenges of interoperability within and between organizations. In addition, the book develops a view of sensemaking which draws on the theory of distributed cognition, focusing in particular on the question of how the technology that is available to Police personnel can support (and sometimes thwart) their ability to make sense of the unfolding situation. The main argument in this book is that sensemaking is distributed cognition, and that cognitive processes involved in sensemaking are mediated through interactions with artifacts and other agents. Three perspectives of sensemaking as distributed cognition are presented: making sense with artifacts, making sense through artifacts, and making sense through collaboration.

  • Author : J. Mark G. Williams
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2013-10-18
  • ISBN : 1317985133
  • Pages : 347 pages

Download or read book Mindfulness written by J. Mark G. Williams and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mindfulness-based approaches to medicine, psychology, neuroscience, healthcare, education, business leadership, and other major societal institutions have become increasingly common. New paradigms are emerging from a confluence of two powerful and potentially synergistic epistemologies: one arising from the wisdom traditions of Asia and the other arising from post-enlightenment empirical science. This book presents the work of internationally renowned experts in the fields of Buddhist scholarship and scientific research, as well as looking at the implementation of mindfulness in healthcare and education settings. Contributors consider the use of mindfulness throughout history and look at the actual meaning of mindfulness whilst identifying the most salient areas for potential synergy and for potential disjunction. Mindfulness: Diverse Perspectives on its Meanings, Origins and Applications provides a place where wisdom teachings, philosophy, history, science and personal meditation practice meet. It was originally published as a special issue of Contemporary Buddhism.

Book Mindfulness in Your Everyday Life

Download or read book Mindfulness in Your Everyday Life written by Adrian Tanase and published by Crystal Gate Publishing. This book was released on 2020-08-21 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The simple practice of mindfulness, which can be explained in a few words as "directing our awareness in the present moment", can help us maintain a clear mind and sharp attention, and it is discussed, explained, and analyzed from many different perspectives, uncovering most of the facets of conscious living, in our today's society. This book is all about mindful living, where two different practices are recurrently present, as a means to sustain our conscious approach: mindfulness and meditation. I am presenting simple techniques that will sustain a conscious approach to life, where your perception will always be clear and rooted in the present moment, and your life will always have a stress-free, relaxed, and aware point of view. Even if you already know about mindfulness or that you are looking to find a resource to explain it more in-depth to you, this book manages to touch most of the aspects that are related to our mind, and to our relation to this world, to the direct experience that we can have when we discard or transcend our Ego, and mostly, to our personal relationship with the dynamic and ever-changing present moment. I hope that everyone that reads my book will get to witness, in time, their pristine, clear, and natural state of mind, getting to gradually see the gaps of thought, through the practice of mindfulness and meditation, and finally, witnessing the unwavering mind of no-thought, which will illuminate and radically change their perception on life. Namaste

Book excerpt: Sometimes we can lose touch with ourselves so much that we don't even know we have done so, until suddenly we realize with a start that we have just been going through the motions, without really experiencing our lives. The simple fact is that in today's world, we spend so much time looking forward, rushing on to the next thing, or looking backwards, stressing and worrying about our perceived mistakes, that we rarely still ourselves and our minds enough to truly be in the present moment. In One-Minute Mindfulness, Simon Parke uses stories and simple thoughts to help us see through clear eyes how we can return to the present moment and remain there. This subtle change can be startlingly healing, bringing peace into every area of our lives, allowing us to live freely and fully, and to honour what is true for each of us. Both inspiring and practical, this book is for anyone who wants to come home to themselves.
