Stanje v prostoru in spremembe, ki so se v njem dogajale v daljšem časovnem obdobju, najlažje ugotavljamo s pomočjo različnih grafičnih gradiv. Med njimi izstopajo predvsem kartografska in fotografska, v klasični ali elektronski obliki, ki so nepogrešljiva pri izobraževanju mladih o prostoru in njegovem pomenu za nadaljnji razvoj družbe. Poudariti želimo predvsem pomen različnih zemljevidov, letalskih posnetkov, tridimenzionalnih in simulacijskih modelov ter fotografij iz različnih časovnih obdobij. Nekaj kartografskih in drugih grafičnih učil, ki jih je smiselno uporabljati pri izobraževanju o pomenu in vlogi prostora za trajnostni razvoj, smo predstavili in uporabili tudi v okviru seminarjev za učitelje.

Book excerpt: Didactic publication is just one of the results of an international project R.A.V.E Space, which aims with young people to raise the awareness of values of space through the process of education. The state of the space and the changes that have occurred within in it over extended time periods can be most easily found out using a variety of graphical materials. Among these, cartographic and photographic materials, in classical or electronic form, stand out and form an indispensable tool in teaching young people about space and its importance for the continuing development of society. We highlight in particular the use of different maps, aerial photos, three-dimensional and simulated models and photographs of an area from different time periods. We have presented a selection of cartographic and other graphical teaching tools at seminars for teachers, showing how they can be used to teach pupils about the significance and role of space for sustainable development.

WEBIST 2008 received 238 paper submissions from more than 40 countries on all continents. A double-blind review process was enforced, with the help of more than 200 experts from the international Program Committee, each of them specialized in one of the main conference topic areas. After reviewing, 32 papers were selected to be published and presented as full papers and 64 additional papers, describing work-- progress, as short papers for oral presentation only. Furthermore, 58 papers were p- sented as posters. The full-paper acceptance ratio was 13%, and the total oral paper acceptance ratio was 40%.
