Book excerpt: A standalone, adventure-packed companion to the New York Times bestseller Compass South, from the same team who created the Eisner Award-winner Salt Magic. Twelve-year-old twin adventurers Cleopatra and Alexandra Dodge are reunited with their father and realize that two family heirlooms reveal the location of a treasure that is their birthright. When they set sail with Captain Tarboro on the Almira, they know they’re heading into danger —the ocean is filled with new and old enemies, including their nemesis, the infamous pirate Felix Worley. But like a coral reef that lurks below the surface of the waves, trouble is brewing between the siblings. Alex is determined to become a sailor and is happy with his role aboard the Almira, but Cleo—the only girl on the ship—is tired of washing dishes in the galley. In an effort to find her own purpose, she begins studying sword fighting with Tarboro, but neither Alex nor her father approves. Can the twins remain close as they pursue different goals and dreams, or will their growing differences tear the family apart before the treasure can be found? In this follow-up to the New York Times bestselling Compass South, Hope Larson and Rebecca Mock once again create an outstanding seafaring adventure with Knife's Edge. A Margaret Ferguson Book

When books are on display it is usually their spines, covers, text, or illustrations that are featured. These are the familiar parts of the books--the parts that modern readers have come to interact with the most. Edges of Books takes a different approach, uncovering a tradition that extends back centuries in which the edges of books were important sites for information and decoration. This is a catalog of an exhibition of the same name at the Cary Collection.

Book Graph Representation Learning

Download or read book Graph Representation Learning written by William L. William L. Hamilton and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graph-structured data is ubiquitous throughout the natural and social sciences, from telecommunication networks to quantum chemistry. Building relational inductive biases into deep learning architectures is crucial for creating systems that can learn, reason, and generalize from this kind of data. Recent years have seen a surge in research on graph representation learning, including techniques for deep graph embeddings, generalizations of convolutional neural networks to graph-structured data, and neural message-passing approaches inspired by belief propagation. These advances in graph representation learning have led to new state-of-the-art results in numerous domains, including chemical synthesis, 3D vision, recommender systems, question answering, and social network analysis. This book provides a synthesis and overview of graph representation learning. It begins with a discussion of the goals of graph representation learning as well as key methodological foundations in graph theory and network analysis. Following this, the book introduces and reviews methods for learning node embeddings, including random-walk-based methods and applications to knowledge graphs. It then provides a technical synthesis and introduction to the highly successful graph neural network (GNN) formalism, which has become a dominant and fast-growing paradigm for deep learning with graph data. The book concludes with a synthesis of recent advancements in deep generative models for graphs—a nascent but quickly growing subset of graph representation learning.

Moreover, the book provides an enjoyable primer to the field of algorithms. This book is designed for undergraduates and postgraduates studying algorithm design.

Book The Human Edge

Download or read book The Human Edge written by Greg Orme and published by Pearson UK. This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is spinning so fast it’s difficult to keep up. Two hundred and fifty years ago the Industrial Revolution replaced our arms and legs at work. The fourth Industrial Revolution is now replacing our brains. This technological shift is engulfing organisations and people. It’s challenging the very essence of what it means to be human. Daily news headlines pose existential questions that used to belong in the pages of science fiction: Will a machine take my job? Are we becoming cyborgs? What happens when super computers become self-aware? If we can’t compete with artificial intelligence, what’s left? Innovation guru Greg Orme provides a helpful, funny and supportive shove in the right direction. He explores the skills you need to survive and thrive in a world of artificial intelligence. He urges you to stop competing, and instead do things machines can’t. To become a more human, human. This is a practical toolkit to master three intrinsically human ‘super powers’: 1. To ignite your innate CURIOSITY in a world of accelerating change... 2. To rediscover your CREATIVITY to produce an avalanche of game-changing ideas... 3. To develop CONNECTIVITY to kindle the passion, persistence and insights to successfully engage fellow humans to turn human creativity into business innovation. These career-enhancing capabilities have been identified in Orme’s work with business managers and organisations across the globe. They draw upon the latest psychological and neuroscience research, the unique philosophies of successful entrepreneurs, the practises of the world’s most innovative companies, as well as the habits of great artists, designers and scientists. Book Exercises in Graph Theory

Download or read book Exercises in Graph Theory written by O. Melnikov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book supplements the textbook of the authors" Lectures on Graph The ory" [6] by more than thousand exercises of varying complexity. The books match each other in their contents, notations, and terminology. The authors hope that both students and lecturers will find this book helpful for mastering and verifying the understanding of the peculiarities of graphs. The exercises are grouped into eleven chapters and numerous sections accord ing to the topics of graph theory: paths, cycles, components, subgraphs, re constructibility, operations on graphs, graphs and matrices, trees, independence, matchings, coverings, connectivity, matroids, planarity, Eulerian and Hamiltonian graphs, degree sequences, colorings, digraphs, hypergraphs. Each section starts with main definitions and brief theoretical discussions. They constitute a minimal background, just a reminder, for solving the exercises. the presented facts and a more extended exposition may be found in Proofs of the mentioned textbook of the authors, as well as in many other books in graph theory. Most exercises are supplied with answers and hints. In many cases complete solutions are given. At the end of the book you may find the index of terms and the glossary of notations. The "Bibliography" list refers only to the books used by the authors during the preparation of the exercisebook. Clearly, it mentions only a fraction of available books in graph theory. The invention of the authors was also driven by numerous journal articles, which are impossible to list here.

Book Graph Grammars and Their Application to Computer Science

Download or read book Graph Grammars and Their Application to Computer Science written by Hartmut Ehrig and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1987-12-17 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The generic term "graph-grammars" refers to a variety of methods for specifying (possibly infinite) sets of graphs or sets of maps. The area of graph-grammars originated in the late 60s motivated by considerations concerning pattern recognition - since then the list of areas which have interacted with the development of graph-grammars has grown quite impressively. It includes pattern recognition, software specification and development, VLSI layout schemes, data bases, lambda-calculus, analysis of concurrent systems, massively parallel computer architectures, incremental compilers, computer animation, complexity theory, developmental biology, music composition, representation of physical solids, and many others. This volume is based on the contributions presented at the third international workshop on graph-grammars and their applications, held in Warrenton, Virginia, USA in December 1986. Aiming at the best possible representation of the field not all of the papers presented at the meeting appear in this volume and some of the papers from this volume were not presented at the workshop. The volume consists of two parts: Part I presents tutorial introductions to a number of basic graph and map rewriting mechanisms. Part II contains technical contributions. This collection of papers provides the reader with an up-to-date overview of current trends in graph-grammars.
