Download or read book Grandma s Memory Lane written by June Summers and published by Red Wheel/Weiser. This book was released on 2017-01-15 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After eighty-some years of being a student in this Schoolhouse of Life, I felt an emotional urge to document both to myself and my world that I truly was here - that I was more than the author of another poetry book. Grandma's Memory Lane fulfilled my purpose, and also became a way of acknowledging some important people who helped make these memories with me. My family's history is like a prize-winning forest of hybrids. The dominant one that influenced my life the most was an Oak Tree - my dad. It was 1931. The United States was just a few years into the deepest and longest-lasting economic downturn in its history. And even though my strong Oak Tree worked double time to keep food and care for his new family, his first daughter felt like her world was a make-believe magical fairy tale. Her dad, though tired from a long work day as a truck garden laborer, still found time and energy to make little child-sized furniture, a homemade sack and trapeze swing, and a little riding car that ran by push-power and was the envy of neighborhood children. My first home was located in a small truck-gardening community where neighbors were more like extended family members. The women did quilting bees and hosted homemade icecream parties. Kids played outside after dark, and parents didn't worry about them. Though the feeling of fear was predominant in most of the States, my first dozen years were a blessing of rich soil this Acorn needed in order to be ready for her own future family of Saplings and Acorns. So now, let me in poetry form, introduce you to how this family was formed. Remember, we're all constructing our own Memory Lanes and will have shared them with others. But you are the Memory Keeper . . . so love yourself and enjoy the life you were given.

Download or read book My Memory Lane written by Judy L. Werker and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2005-06-14 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Defining abuse is a personal subject. It may be physical abuse, mental abuse, child abuse – it takes many forms. Do you know someone who may be going through this and don’t know how to help them or know what to say? Do you carry a burden for this person and want to help them? Sometimes we just are not able to say or do anything, but just maybe, if you leave this book with them they can come up with a solution on their own and build their self-esteem. This book came straight from my heart with a message I hope to reach any person who may be experiencing abuse in their life – in any form. I firmly believe God allows us to experience things in our life that are not pleasant, are sometimes down right hurtful in order for us to grow spiritually. When we grow spiritually, then comes the need to help others. And love others. Then comes the healing balm. When we open these channels, doing it freely and of our own will, then the blessings come many, many times over. It’s a wonderful circle of life, meant to be shared.

Download or read book The Life History of a Star written by Kelly Easton and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2001 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Donald Justice wrote in "On a Picture by Burchfield" that "art keeps long hours," he might have been describing his own life. Although he early on struggled to find a balance between his life and art, the latter became a way of experiencing his life more deeply. He found meaning in human experience by applying traditional religious language to his artistic vocation. Central to his work was the translation of the language of devotion to a learned American vernacular. Art not only provided him with a wealth of intrinsically worthwhile experiences but also granted rich and nuanced ways of experiencing, understanding, and being in the world. For Donald Justice--recipient of some of poetry's highest laurels, including the Pulitzer Prize, the Bollingen Prize, and the Lannan Literary Award for Poetry--art was a way of life. Because Jerry Harp was Justice's student, his personal knowledge of his subject--combined with his deep understanding of Justice's oeuvre--works to remarkable advantage in For Us, What Music? Harp reads with keen intelligence, placing each poem within the precise historical moment it was written and locating it in the context of the literary tradition within which Justice worked. Throughout the text runs the narrative of Justice's life, tying together the poems and informing Harp's interpretation of them. For Us, What Music? grants readers a remarkable understanding of one of America's greatest poets.

Download or read book The Long Way Home written by Sammy Simms and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-12-21 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book seeks to share an entertaining view of society, which I believe has some serious cracks in it. Perhaps we will find the fortitude it takes to mend them. My experiences were mild, considering some of the things we read in the newspapers every day. The traumas I suffered and their repercussions are being recognized more widely, and in this I find hope. Recognition is primary in positive resolution.
