Book excerpt: The author takes a closer look at the tragedy of the book of Job and finds God's fingerprint of grace on every single page. He delves into the culture of Job's time to make sense of the mannerisms of the characters involved in this extreme story of loss and God's goodness. Many truths that are overlooked and hidden are brought into plain sight as we discover the frailty, humanity and flaws of Job. The author takes a look at centuries old assumptions and applies even older truths of the character of God which tells a different tale than we are used to. This book is refreshing, funny, painfully honest and a very easy read. If you are looking for answers to your "Why's" this book is a must have for you.

Book Dancing in the Flames

Book excerpt: This book examines Lee Smith's novel-length fiction and its powerful reflection of her personal search for and journey toward spiritual reconciliation. The protagonists of Smith's novels feel estranged from any sense of feminine sacredness as they struggle for a belief system that offers them hope and validation. Chapters describe how Smith has retrieved in her fiction a source of transformative power--the power of the sexual, maternal, feminine divine--in hopes of creating a new image of the total, sacred female whose sexuality, creativity, spirituality, and maternity can reside comfortably in the bodies of everyday heroines.

Book excerpt: Sabbath Valley lay like a green jewel cupped in the hand of the surrounding mountains with the morning sun serene upon it picking out the clean smooth streets, the white houses with their green blinds, the maples with their clear cut leaves, the cosy brick school house wide winged and friendly, the vine clad stone church, and the little stone bungalow with low spreading roof that was the parsonage. The word manse had not yet reached the atmosphere. There were no affectations in Sabbath Valley.

Book The City of Fire Esprios Classics

Download or read book The City of Fire Esprios Classics written by Grace Livingston Hill and published by Blurb. This book was released on 2021-09-09 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grace Livingston Hill (1865-1947) was an early 20th Century "Christian Romance" novelist. She was immensely popular in the time that she wrote, contributing hundreds of novels and short stories during her lifetime. Her characters were most often young female ingénues, frequently strong Christian women or those who become so within the confines of the story. Grace's messages are quite simplistic in nature: good versus evil. As Grace believed the Bible was very clear about what was good and what was evil in life, she reflected that cut-and-dried design in her own works. She touched on subjects such as infidelity, defiance, hard-heartedness towards God, and deception, to name just a few.

Book excerpt: When it comes to having a desire to see things change, it is obvious that most Christians are ready for it! The problem is that churches have tried every program available, and yet they still feel that there is something missing from their ministry. This book takes a fresh look at ministry and challenges us to consider that we may have actually left God out of the ministry equation, by not realizing how desperately we need for God's Spirit to set us on "fire!" Take a journey through the Bible and discover for yourself, how God's fire is present when God is on the move! Discover how God's fire reveals his character as well as our calling to be transformed into the image of Christ! You will also discover how being one of God's Fire Starters can be one of the most exciting adventures of anyone's life! Donald A. Broadwater was born in Roanoke, Virginia and spent most of his early life growing up around the Blue Ridge Mountains. He graduated from Covenant College and Westminster Theological Seminary, and for the past three decades, Don and his family have been on an adventure that has taken them from America to Australia. He is married to Gloria and has two grown children from their 37-year marriage. God has unfolded a unique ministry of discipleship that has sought to encourage people to take their next step on a Journey in Jesus. This ministry is needed because our journeys are as unique as God who is fashioning them for us. He has also spoken for church camps and seminars, which have included the international conference, "Fire on the Mountain," on Mt. Tambourine in Queensland, Australia. Contact him at www.journeyinjesus.com for additional information or for scheduling seminars for your ministry.

Using his journalist’s skills, Bill Jessome weaves incredible stories that both charm us and chill us. The region including Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick has an extensive storytelling tradition and a large part of that lexicon consists of tales of the supernatural. Many of these stories are passed down over the generations, and Jessome has acquired dozens of haunting accounts by listening to Maritimers at the kitchen table, around the flickering campfire, and when the moon is full. Book The Complete Works of C H Spurgeon Volume 13

Download or read book The Complete Works of C H Spurgeon Volume 13 written by Spurgeon, Charles H. and published by Delmarva Publications, Inc.. This book was released on 2015-02-25 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 13 Sermons 728-787 Charles Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) is one of the church’s most famous preachers and Christianity’s foremost prolific writers. Called the “Prince of Preachers,” he was one of England's most notable ministers for most of the second half of the nineteenth century, and he still remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations today. His sermons have spread all over the world, and his many printed works have been cherished classics for decades. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to more than 10 million people, often up to ten times each week. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was an inexhaustible author of various kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, an autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Spurgeon was known to produce powerful sermons of penetrating thought and divine inspiration, and his oratory and writing skills held his audiences spellbound. Many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature. Edward Walford wrote in Old and New London: Volume 6 (1878) quoting an article from the Times regarding one of Spurgeon’s meetings at Surrey: “Fancy a congregation consisting of 10,000 souls, streaming into the hall, mounting the galleries, humming, buzzing, and swarming—a mighty hive of bees—eager to secure at first the best places, and, at last, any place at all. After waiting more than half an hour—for if you wish to have a seat you must be there at least that space of time in advance—Mr. Spurgeon ascended his tribune. To the hum, and rush, and trampling of men, succeeded a low, concentrated thrill and murmur of devotion, which seemed to run at once, like an electric current, through the breast of every one present, and by this magnetic chain the preacher held us fast bound for about two hours. It is not my purpose to give a summary of his discourse. It is enough to say of his voice, that its power and volume are sufficient to reach every one in that vast assembly; of his language, that it is neither high-flown nor homely; of his style, that it is at times familiar, at times declamatory, but always happy, and often eloquent; of his doctrine, that neither the 'Calvinist' nor the 'Baptist' appears in the forefront of the battle which is waged by Mr. Spurgeon with relentless animosity, and with Gospel weapons, against irreligion, cant, hypocrisy, pride, and those secret bosom-sins which so easily beset a man in daily life; and to sum up all in a word, it is enough to say of the man himself, that he impresses you with a perfect conviction of his sincerity.” More than a hundred years after his death, Charles Spurgeon’s legacy continues to effectively inspire the church around the world. For this reason, Delmarva Publications has chosen to republish the complete works of Charles Spurgeon.
