Lima bravely shares stories of God's relentless pursuit of her, and courageously shines a light on the circumstances behind our dysfunctional, repetitive behaviors. Book excerpt: On any given night, more than half a million Americans and Canadians find themselves sleeping on the streets, in shelters, cars, and other places not meant for human habitation. Yet as this crisis continues to grow, it remains one of the least talked about—especially in churches. Even where compassion and empathy exist, the complexities around homelessness can make us feel stuck, overwhelmed, or numb to the existence of unhoused people in our cities and neighborhoods. Reporting back from his work in homeless services, minister and advocate Kevin Nye introduces readers to the Christ he’s met in tents, shelters, and drop-in centers. He demystifies homelessness by journeying into complex issues like affordable housing, mental illness, addiction, and more, while reimagining our theological approach to these matters and educating us on how they intersect with homelessness. This thorough and intimate book shows us that from the margins, Jesus has something to teach us all about grace—something that could change the landscape of homelessness entirely if we’re ready to hear it.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the cold stone walls of his boarding school, Harold is surprised to find himself reunited with his foster brother, the older, handsome, enthralling Edmund. After a shared childhood in a stately English home, Harold thought he'd never experience their closeness again, as the expectation of the British upper classes weigh upon both of them. But when a harsh storm leads them to take shelter in an abandoned hermitage, Harold is going to get some lessons on chemistry. A period M/M story set on a chilly winter's eve. This 8,000 word story previously appeared in the anthology Shackin' Up: Short Stories of Queer Romance and Forced Proximity. Excerpt from Whoever Brought Me Here: “Your parents invited me home for the holidays, and when it came out that I’d be travelling on the same day as you were set to be done with school, I offered to pick you up.” He turns and grins, his teeth white and straight against his dark skin, a thick black curl escaping from under his driving cap. The deep green of his jumper brings out the warmth of his cheeks, and Harold has to look away. “Generous of you,” Harold manages, his mind spinning. “Hartley isn’t exactly on the way between East Grove and Milton Park.” Edmund shrugs. “No, but it’s not too far out of the way. Besides, I needed to put Millicent here,” he pats the dashboard fondly, “through her paces, and… I wanted to see you.” Harold doesn’t know what to say to that. It’s— they’ve always been close, he and Edmund, but letters are different than actions, and they haven’t seen each other since the summer Harold was fourteen, a year after Edmund left. The idea that Edmund would take it upon himself to go out of his way to fetch Harold home is— “That storm’s moving in faster than I like,” Edmund murmurs, and Harold glances out the window. A gale has been forecast for days, but it was projected to hold off until the weekend. A quick look at the dark clouds piling up on the horizon and the way the car has begun to shake with the wind, however, puts the lie to that notion and sends a shiver down Harold’s spine. They’re still several hours from Milton Park over country roads, and Milton Park itself lies at the end of its road, back pressed to the western cliffs, with few enough families between it and the town an hour away. “We’ll be fine,” Harold answers him, more to have something to say than out of any real confidence. “Just keep driving.”

Book Living in the Balance of Grace and Faith

Download or read book Living in the Balance of Grace and Faith written by Andrew Wommack and published by Destiny Image Publishers. This book was released on 2011-06-24 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Popular Bible teacher and host of the Gospel Truth broadcast, Andrew Wommack takes on one of the biggest controversies of the church, the freedom of God's grace verses the faith of the believer. Wommack reveals that God's power is not released from only grace or only faith. God's blessings come through a balance of both grace and faith. Addressing many of the misconceptions believers are taught in the Church today, this book opens up the Scriptures revealing the vital connection between grace and faith. Many believers think they walk in both grace and faith when actually they are misusing one or both of these principles. Wommack addresses: * Some believers willingly sin believing Gods grace will cover them, while the blessing of grace is not to sin, but to release guilt and condemnation when they make a mistake. * Other believers think they must "work" their faith by ritualistic prayer, confession, or Bible study. Although all these things are good, Jesus Christ set believers free from works of the law. God wants a relationship where He can communicate directly to each believer. * Grace and faith work together. When believers receive the unmerited favor or grace of God, they can release their faith without doubt or reservation and receive God's blessings. Andrew Wommack in his logical, practical style brings believers back on track in their Christian walk through living in the balance of grace and faith.

Download or read book Grace Is Greater written by Kyle Idleman and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2017-02-28 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The writer of the letter to the Hebrews said, "See to it that no one misses the grace of God." Over the centuries much ink has been spilled on the subject of grace. Yet perhaps nothing is as hard to explain as God's grace. It doesn't make sense. It's not fair. It can't possibly cover over what I've done. The best way--perhaps the only real way--to understand it is to experience it. But too often in our churches we're not getting grace across and grace is not experienced. Bestselling author and pastor Kyle Idleman wants everyone to experience the grace of God. Through the powerful medium of story, Grace Is Greater leads readers past their hang-ups toward an understanding of grace that is bigger than our mistakes, our failures, our desire for revenge, and our seemingly impossible situations. No sin is so great, no bitterness so deep that God's grace cannot transform the heart and rewrite the story. Perfect for individuals and also for small groups and church-wide studies, Grace Is Greater will help readers truly grasp God's grace, even if the Christians around them have failed to live it.

Just be the outcast but understand, what makes you different shapes your perspective and refines your character. These poems cover ranges from the valley to the mountain top. The purpose of your life is continuous on this earth until the father says welcome home my good and faithful servant, you are the one.
