Since then the problem has not gone away, resistance is still on the rise and the pharmaceutical industry has brought out only one new class of antibiotic. However there has been some change in behaviour, the prescribing of antibacterials by GPs in England has declined by 19% and a multi-disciplinary expert advisory committee is to be set up. However there is still much to do, especially on bearing down on MRSA and improving monitoring.
