The check from the dairy lobby must have been late that week"), or cultural trends ("I saw a restaurant in Seattle that specialized in latte and barbecue. Barbecue and latte. I came home immediately"), Molly takes on the issues of the day with her trademark good sense and inimitable wit.

Download or read book Find Your Miracle written by Kerry Shook and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover the miracle you’ve been looking for through an exploration of nine miracles of Jesus, each filled with meaning, insight, and discovery for all who desperately need a miracle of their own. Healing the blind. Walking on water. Calming the storm. Feeding thousands with a few loaves and fish. Every miracle Jesus performed was for a purpose. There was provision for that specific moment in time. But what if each miracle was also embedded with the promise of future provision…for you? In Find Your Miracle, New York Times best-selling authors Kerry and Chris Shook take a fresh look at nine of Jesus’s most incredible times of healing and supernatural intervention. The Shooks unpack these moments in modern language to usher you into the pain, desperation, breakthrough, and miracle of each encounter. Plus they reveal a “miracle map” that connects that moment long ago to our needs today for revelation, transformation, and restoration. Weaving together the biblical narrative with contemporary real-life application, Kerry and Chris Shook arrange these New Testament miracles under four overarching descriptions of Jesus the Miracle Worker: the Healer, the Provider, the Storm Chaser, and the Life Giver. Rather than running from our overwhelming situations, the Shooks encourage us to remain steady, fully trusting that Jesus stands ready to guide us to the miracle we most need, and possibly least expect.

Download or read book Casting Lacey written by Elle Spencer and published by Bold Strokes Books Inc. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coming out is easier when you’ve got someone by your side. At least that’s how the hyper-private Quinn Kincaid sees it. When her publicist suggests a good old-fashioned sham of a Hollywood relationship, Quinn reluctantly agrees. And that’s how the star of Jordan’s Appeal, TV’s highest rated legal drama, ends up with a fake girlfriend—the very real, very sexy, and very gay soap star, Lacey Matthews. The two clash immediately, and often hilariously, as they figure out how to fake a budding romance. And of course, things are never as simple as they seem. A freak accident, some reluctant caregiving, and a chance to work together on Jordan’s Appeal force Quinn and Lacey closer together—for better or worse. In Casting Lacey, Elle Spencer gives us a funny new take on a classic storyline, complete with nosy mothers, fawning assistants, and two beautiful actresses who might learn about true love. If they don’t kill each other first.

Download or read book Off the Rocks Volume 17 written by NewTown Writers and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NewTown Writers presents Volume 17 of our annual anthology series dedicated to the creative endeavors of the GLBT community. This year's edition explores the subject of subtext: reading between, behind, beneath, and beyond the lines. Subtext is standard in GLBT culture, visible even when we are not. Subtext is perniciously perceptive and delightfully deceptive. It is always - inherently, if not transparently - subversive. Because generally speaking, what isn't spoken speaks louder, clearer, and queerer than what is.
Download or read book The Fire Watchers written by John Crawley and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-07-14 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Im going to piss you off, hopefully, in a good way so you can use the energy creatively and help me fight the fire that has been growing ever so steadily in our nation. The title of this book, The Fire Watchers is a metaphor referencing the lack of continuum of care for our mentally ill and substance-addled folks, often one and the same person. Much of my focus is on the veterans returning from harms way in various parts of the world. They have a high rate of mental illnessPTSD (Post- [delayed, sometimes for months or years] traumatic stress disorder} and other maladies like major depression, bi-polar affective disorder, and TBI (traumatic brain injuries). There are many effective treatments for these issues that are not being used as frequently or as effectively as they should. Why not? I will document and discuss major reasons why much of our treatment services delivery system is flawed and, in many places, broken. We need a major effort in this country to repair whats broken. I will take us through, step by step, ways in which we can all work together to provide an efficient, less costly, and model system that rivals any in the world.

Download or read book The Second City Unscripted written by Mike Thomas and published by Villard. This book was released on 2009-09-29 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1959, a group of like-minded Chicagoans joined forces to open a hip new venue dedicated to coffee, cigarettes, conversation, and comedy. The result, a nightly cabaret featuring a troupe of inventive young actors skewering everything from politics to popular culture in witty, rapid-fire, improvised scenes, not only made delighted audiences laugh–it made history. Copping its iconic name from a New York journalist’s disparaging remark, Chicago’s Second City theater brashly defied the role of runner-up and single-handedly made the Windy City North America’s cradle of comedic brilliance from which generations of household names would spring. Now, in The Second City Unscripted, a Who’s Who of the celebrated comedy camp’s alumni–including Alan Arkin, David Steinberg, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, Eugene Levy, Amy Sedaris, and Stephen Colbert–tell it like it was in the house that hilarity built. Here are candid tales of John Belushi’s raw ambition and chemical experimentation, Bill Murray’s heckler-pummeling and lady-killing, superstar Mel Gibson’s roof-raising appearance in Braveheart regalia, and legendary director Del Close’s shuttling between the comedic asylum he ruled over and the real one he rehabbed in. In this unvarnished, unexpurgated, and unprecedented account, what happened onstage, backstage, and offstage at Second City isn’t staying there anymore. From the smash hits and near misses to the love affairs and the bitter feuds, from the showbiz politics and pitfalls to the inspired tomfoolery and heartbreaking tragedy, The Second City Unscripted is part memoir of a cherished era, part time capsule from a comedic renaissance, and part valentine to the exquisite art of being funny. It captures like never before the history of the men and women who caught lightning–and laughter–in a bottle.
Download or read book Venom written by Jennifer Estep and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2010-09-28 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What kind of assassin works pro bono? It’s hard to be a badass assassin when a giant is beating the crap out of you. Luckily, I never let pride get in the way of my work. My current mission is personal: annihilate Mab Monroe, the Fire elemental who murdered my family. Which means protecting my identity, even if I have to conceal my powerful Stone and Ice magic when I need it most. To the public, I’m Gin Blanco, owner of Ashland’s best barbecue joint. To my friends, I’m the Spider, retired assassin. I still do favors on the side. Like ridding a vampire friend of her oversized stalker—Mab’s right-hand goon who almost got me dead with his massive fists. At least irresistible Owen Grayson is on my side. The man knows too much about me, but I’ll take my chances. Then there’s Detective Bria Coolidge, one of Ashland’s finest. Until recently, I thought my baby sister was dead. She probably thinks the same about me. Little does she know, I’m a cold-blooded killer . . . who is about to save her life.

Download or read book Crazy Book written by Rolf A. Jacobson and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2019-02-01 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible can be hard to understand. To many of us, it often does seem like a crazy book. But, according to the authors of Crazy Book, the crazy book we call the Bible actually teaches us the sanity that we need. The sanity that lets us know who God is, who we are in light of God's love, and where God's love can be found and experienced. Very similar in tone and organization to Crazy Talk, the authors of Crazy BookÊunleash their passion, faith, and humor. This time they have their sights on the Bible and biblical terms, and they don't hold back. Here, they've elected to focus on major people, events, places, books, and types of literature in the Bible, communicating the life-giving truth of the Bible via often knock-em-dead humor. The volume's savvy and sassy overtones are bound to leave an impression. This is an accessible book almost devoid of scholarly jargon but filled with scholarly insight. The revised and expanded addition includes new and expanded entries and all new images.
