Book The Treasure Principle Revised and Updated

Download or read book The Treasure Principle Revised and Updated written by Randy Alcorn and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2012-04-11 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover how the joy of giving can make your life richer, starting today. Bestselling author Randy Alcorn introduced readers to a revolution in material freedom and radical generosity with the release of the original The Treasure Principle in 2001. Now the revision to the compact, perennial bestseller includes a provocative new concluding chapter depicting God asking a believer questions about his stewardship over material resources. Jesus spent more time talking about money and possessions than about heaven and hell combined. But too often we’ve overlooked or misunderstood his most profound teaching on this topic, from his words in Matthew 6. Jesus offers us life-changing investment advice. He actually wants us to store up treasures for ourselves—just not here on earth. Instead, he urges us to store our treasure in heaven, where they will await us, and last forever. We can’t take it with us—but we can send it on ahead! Readers are moved from the realms of thoughtful Bible exposition into the highly personal arena of everyday life. Because when Jesus told His followers to “lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,” He intended that they discover an astounding secret: how joyful giving brings God maximum glory and His children maximum pleasure. In The Treasure Principle, you’ll unearth a radical teaching of Jesus—a secret wrapped up in giving. Once you discover this secret, life will never look the same. And you won’t want it to be. “Supercharged with stunning, divine truth! Lightning struck over and over as I read it.” - John Piper, Senior Pastor, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis

Book Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job Reasons to Believe

Download or read book Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job Reasons to Believe written by Hugh Ross and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2011-10-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arguably the oldest book in the Bible, the book of Job has a surprising amount to say about some of the newest scientific discoveries and controversies. Far from a book that is just about suffering, Job is filled with rich insight into both ancient and modern questions about the formation of the world the difference between animals and humans cosmology dinosaurs and the fossil record how to care for creation and more With careful consideration and exegesis, internationally known astrophysicist and Christian apologist Hugh Ross adds yet another compelling argument to the case for the veracity of the biblical commentary on the history of the universe, Earth, life, and humanity. Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job shows that the Bible is an accurate predictor of scientific discoveries and a trustworthy source of scientific information, and that both the book of Scripture and the book of nature are consistent both internally and externally.

Book excerpt: Armenia was the first country to recognize Christianity as the official state religion in 301 AD, twelve years before Constantine's decree granting tolerance to Christianity within the Roman Empire. Ever since, Armenia has claimed the privilege of being the first Christian nation, and the wealth of Christian art produced in Armenia since then is testimony to the fundamental importance of the Christian faith to the Armenian people. This extensive new survey of Armenian Christian art, published to accompany a major exhibition at The British Library, celebrates the Christian art tradition in Armenia during the last 1700 years. The extraordinary quality and range of Armenian art which is documented includes sculpture, metalwork, textiles, ceramics, wood carvings and illuminated manuscripts and has been drawn together from collections throughout the world—many of the examples have never before been seen outside Armenia. In his authoritative text, Dr. Vrej Nersessian, Curator at The British Library, charts the development of Christianity in Armenia. This fascinating history is essential to an understanding of the art and religious tradition of Armenia, a country in which the sense of the sacred extends well beyond the purely religious, infiltrating the entire fabric of Armenian affairs to create a fascinating culture. This sumptuously illustrated book will be of immense value to anyone with an interest in Byzantine art and culture, the history of Christianity and the history of Armenia and the Middle Orient.

Book St Margaret s Gospel book

Download or read book St Margaret s Gospel book written by Rebecca Rushforth and published by Bodleian Library. This book was released on 2007 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A beautiful little manuscript in the Bodleian Library, which was purchased for £6 at auction in 1887, was discovered afterwards to belong to none other than Margaret, Queen of Scotland and was, according to her biographer, her favourite book. The story of the book is as romantic as the story of Margaret herself.Born in Hungary, St Margaret was briefly sister of the King of England then exiled to Scotland after the Norman Conquest where she married King Malcolm. Despite many political upheavals, she adapted to an unwelcome public role to become famous for her piety, dignity and compassion. She helped her husband to make Scotland a European power, and her children ruled over both Scotland and England. After her death she was invoked as a force for stability and reconciliation, even as late as the Restoration of Charles II.Although Margaret was later revered as a saint, her Latin biographer recounts only a single miracle, an occasion on which this very book fell in a stream but was later found undamaged. A Latin poem added to the beginning of the Bodleian gospel-book describes the same events. It was only after the Library purchased the book that the connection was made by the 22-year-old-scholar, Lucy Hill, making it clear that we have the very book St Margaret owned and diligently studied.Saint Margaret's Gospel Book will explain this beautiful manuscript, exploring its making and its meaning for Margaret, looking at how it became associated with her sanctity; and setting this against the background of historical events which made Margaret a significant figure both then and now.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nature of this book Hidden Treasures is based on certain principles that God desires for us to live by that we might be better equipped to live for him and to be a light in this world that we live in. This book is designed to detail some of the principles that we talk about daily and how important it is that we apply them in our everyday lives. It is not that they are hidden to us, but the fact that until they become practical and practiced in our lives, all they will be is something that we read about but never become effective in. This book I believe is also a road map to living a life in the spirit that will bring glory to God by allowing our lives to be a tool that he can use for the sake of showing others the grace, power, and the ability of the Holy Ghost to change lives. It has been written with the purpose of being easy to read and follow.

Book Matthew Disciple and Scribe

Download or read book Matthew Disciple and Scribe written by Patrick Schreiner and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2019-09-03 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fresh look at the Gospel of Matthew highlights the unique contribution that Matthew's rich and multilayered portrait of Jesus makes to understanding the connection between the Old and New Testaments. Patrick Schreiner argues that Matthew obeyed the Great Commission by acting as scribe to his teacher Jesus in order to share Jesus's life and work with the world, thereby making disciples of future generations. The First Gospel presents Jesus's life as the fulfillment of the Old Testament story of Israel and shows how Jesus brings new life in the New Testament.

Download or read book Treasure in Heaven written by Virgil Vogt and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-02-01 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where is your treasure? The scriptural teaching about money is clear, radical, and uncompromising -- and at odds with the practice of most people. This presents an uncomfortable question: do we change our lives in accordance with Scripture or do we change Scripture to fit our lives? Virgil Vogt argues that we undermine Scripture's authority when we disregard its teaching about wealth or when we conclude that such teaching cannot be applied in a complex, modern economy. The Bible, Vogt says, is still the best guide to economic life. Scripture teaches a consistent word about our possessions: we are to use the things we have to gain eternal riches. This teaching, coupled with the principle of stewardship, should govern our economic lives. But it takes courage along with genuine faith and a single-minded determination to live according to the Bible's standard in this area. 'Treasure in Heaven' offers a challenge for all Christians who want to bring their finances into line with God's Word.

As the Lord sent Moses to Pharaoh, to let Ms people go; telling him, if he would not, such and such plagues would follow. Pharaoh hardens his heart, and would listen to no caution, would take no warning; then the Lord said (as it were) seeing he is so, seeing he is hardened, and he chooses to be so, he shall be hardened. 1 will also harden his heart, by leaving him to himself, that I may shew upon him ray mighty wonders. Beloved ! do not your hearts ache, while you hear these things? Do you not tremble? Had you not need to take heed and beware of covetousness ? especially of the love of covetousness: for if once you are delivered up to this; first, by your own choosing, and secondly, by God Almighty in his righteous judgments, truly you are in an awful case--Then it may be said of you, as the prophet Jeremiah said concerning the Israelites, when they had voluntarily forsaken the Lord; can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? Then may ye who are accustomed to do evil, do good, In respect to which, take heed and beware of covetousness; for a man's life consisteth not in abundance, but having food and raiment, let us therevnth be content. Lastly, for the punishment of this sin. The sin goes before and the punishment follows. And how many woes and sore punishments are threatened against this sin; as in Michai, Wo to them that devise iniquity, and work mischief upon their beds, and when the morning is come, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand. But what iniquity is this ? It is covetousness, as you will see from what there follows-- They covet fields and take them away: so they oppress...
