Book excerpt: Most of us golfers believe that we are capable of playing at a higher level. We know we can be better. We notice that we seem to be stuck in repeatable patterns of mistakes. Many of us are on an endless search for changes in technique and technology, searching for the missing key ingredients to success. Technique and technology are essential, but we usually find out that they aren't the secret ingredient to success. If we're paying close attention to how we practice and compete, we notice that we sabotage and limit ourselves. We may also discover that we unconsciously sabotage ourselves because we find ourselves doing things that we know are counterproductive, but can't seem to get out of our own way. We don't know why we do things that undercut our ability. The most significant challenges we usually face are the mental ones and not the physical ones. The key problem that many of us have is that we don't know how to stop sabotaging ourselves. Even if we recognize how we are sabotaging ourselves, we may not be able to stop. Intellectual knowledge is helpful, but it isn't sufficient to make deep and powerful changes. We've tried everything we know and it isn't enough. We need something deeper and more powerful. There's a deeper way of knowing and a deeper self-knowledge that we find when we develop a meditation practice. We find our center where we are in touch with our deep wisdom and passion. When we live, train, and compete from our center, we find more clarity about our strengths and weaknesses. We learn that the barriers that appear to be holding us back are actually invitations to develop, change, improve, and tap into the deep strength that we find inside in order to follow through on what will help us more forward as athletes and people. This book of daily meditations for golfers has 366 meditations, one for each day of the calendar year. Each month has a different theme. Each meditation has some thoughts for your reflection and has a unique affirmation at the end, which you use for your meditation. You mindfully read the reflection and then meditate on the affirmation. The Second Edition includes a mental game assessment so that readers can know how to use the book most effectively. The introduction is simpler. The meditations and affirmations have been updated and simplified for ease of use. The sanctuary meditation technique is more integrated throughout the book. The Meditation Scripts chapter has been updated and simplified. The language in the book is more conversational. For many of us golfers, playing at a high level or "in the zone" is an unpredictable event. We don't know when or why it happens. After we have learned to meditate effectively, we recognize that the experiences that we have while meditating are similar to the experiences we have while playing in the zone. That's because playing in the zone is a meditative state. We can learn to play in the zone more often by learning to meditate in the right ways. When we learn to meditate, we learn to manage ourself in ways that are conducive to optimal performance. That's what this book teaches you to do. Meditation may not be what you think it is. This form of meditation does not require you to sit for long periods of time in silence. This form of meditation actively uses your imagination. It's simple to learn and practice. The book assumes that you do not have any experience with meditation. With this book, you have a program for developing your mental game in as little as 15 minutes per day.

Book excerpt: ★★★ Buy the Paperback version of this book & get the Kindle eBook version included for FREE ★★★ You are only as good as your swing. Practice makes perfect. Frustrated golfer syndrome. Golf can be an emotional rollercoaster - lying awake at 3AM wondering the woulda, coulda, shoulda of the day's game. Golfers who hit a bad shot feel helpless. We had an intention but failed to execute it. The mental picture we had of our swing and its glorious outcome shatters at impact. We don't really know what happened. But because it's mysterious, we can't correct it and we can't be sure it won't happen again. The extreme example of this is the dreaded shank-a rogue hit off the hosel of the club that squirts away from the golfer dead right. It's embarrassing. The problem is that once you shank, you begin to imagine that another shank is hovering, right there, just waiting - til the very right moment to appear - and mortify you, in front of your friends. A dear colleague of mine has had nightmares about hitting a shank for years. To add salt to the wound, the feeling of sheer frustration isn't limited to extreme mishits like the shank- it is also there when our mind picture turns into the exact opposite when we hit the ball. Then the next week, we think, what exactly happened. where was I standing, what did I do? All of the woulda, coulda, shoulda thoughts and self observations may be correct but by the time we go out to the course again, we have forgotten the minute details. The fact then remains that we usually don't know why we hit a bad shot that afternoon. You may have one of those handy little putting machines - you putt like a fiend in your home office (or maybe in your office at work). Monday is the worst day of the week for you as the weekend's game haunts you throughout the day, in meetings too - which is a nightmare in itself. You've bought the best clubs. Your putter - well let's just say you had it delivered to the office so your spouse wouldn't see the price tag (yes, I know you well). Golf balls? Dozens of boxes of em sit in your desk drawer. The 3 piece urethane that matches the Tour standard golf ball in every way. The 2 piece urethane slightly harder ball suitable for the intermediate player. Then there are the 3 piece soft-ionomer color ball that blow your mind with the performance and eye catching look. You own them all. The fact is my friend, all the cool golf stuff in the world won't help until you help you - it really is simple - drill down and see the who, what, where in the game. This performance stats workbook, it isn't really pretty. It is designed to help you evaluate what you did - right, wrong and outstanding. It definitely isn't for the weak of heart either. It is a robust workbook - we added some graphics to try to soften the blow, but this is a workbook to seriously evaluate yourself and your golf game. This isn't a mamby-pamby hold your hand workbook. Made 8 x 10 is size, it is made for you to sit down and seriously lay out the day's game facts. It won't fit in your pocket, it is hefty - 200+ pages. No fluff. No sunshine & rainbows content - instead you'll be filling in details of yardage, tournaments, taking a cold hard look at your game and seeing what you did wrong & what you did right. Excellent tool for the golfer who wants to look back and evaluate his or her improvement. Loera Publishing LLC was founded by Diana Loera, a Midwest farmer's daughter. She's had the privilege of buying advertising for some of the top golf products & instructional systems in the world. She hopes you find this performance stats workbook to be a valuable tool in improving your game.

Book excerpt: A highly original and groundbreaking book from a noted PGA coach and Buddhist instructor • “The lessons in Zen Golf make the mental game seem so simple. Dr. Parent has given me very effective methods for working with thoughts and emotions, and for taking the negatives out of the picture.” —Vijay Singh, Masters and PGA Champion By combining classic insights and stories from Zen tradition, Zen Golf helps eliminate the mental distractions that routinely cause poor shots and loss of concentration, allowing golfers to feel in “the zone” that professionals have learned to master. The best players know that golf is a game of confidence, and most important, concentration–the ability to focus and block out distraction. The goal of achieving clear thought is also at the heart of Buddhist teachings. PGA coach and Buddhist instructor Dr. Joseph Parent draws on this natural connection and teaches golfers how to clear their minds, achieve ultimate focus, and play in the moment for each shot. Zen Golf presents a simple system for building “mental game mastery.” Dr Parent’s unique PAR Approach (focusing on Preparation, Action, and Response to Results) guides golfers with specific techniques for each aspect of their games. In chapters such as “How to Get From the Practice Tee to the First Tee”, “You Produce What You Fear”, and “How to Enjoy a Bad Round of Golf”, the author shares a personal teaching regimen that has helped improve the games of professionals and amateurs alike. Clear, concise, and enlightening, Zen Golf shows golfers how to prepare for, execute, and equally important, respond the results of any golf shot. A different approach to golf instruction, this book shapes ancient philosophies into new teachings.

Doc heard what Love said, and twenty years later, The Golfer's Mind is that book. From his Ten Commandments (Commandment I. Play to play great. Don't play not to play poorly) to just about any topic a golfer might imagine, this is the ideal way for players to get all of Rotella's teachings. Book Golf for Enlightenment

Download or read book Golf for Enlightenment written by Deepak Chopra, M.D. and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2003-03-04 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deepak Chopra has discovered the delights—and frustrations—of golf, and he is passionate about the game. Confronted by the wild ups and downs of his own play, he consulted with golf professionals and developed a new approach to the game that any golfer can follow—from the novice to the expert. The results can be measured not only in increased enjoyment and skill, but also in greater wisdom about life beyond the 18th hole. Chopra’s own game has improved dramatically since incorporating the elements of his program. Instead of focusing on the mechanics of a “perfect” swing, Chopra reveals how golf can be mastered through mindfulness, a form of awareness that combines sharp focus and relaxation at the same time. Expanded awareness, he tells us, can accomplish much more than external mechanics to improve one’s game. But Golf for Enlightenment is also an engrossing story about Adam, an Everyman who is playing a terrible round of golf when he meets a mysterious young teaching pro named Leela. In seven short but profound lessons detailing spiritual strategies, she teaches Adam the essence of a game that has much to explain about life itself. Chopra has spent the last year taking the unique message in Golf for Enlightenment nationwide, teaching the essential tenets of his program at lectures and seminars to golfers everywhere. His message continues to help players turn an obsession into a positive life path.

Book Mind Game Discover Your Golf Identity

Download or read book Mind Game Discover Your Golf Identity written by Stu Ingraham and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-05-30 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Createspace Mind Game Description This book is meant to be unlike any other golf instruction book out on the market today! Mind Game is written from the unique point of view of a golf professional who has not only spent forty-six years playing at all levels of the sport, from the P.G.A. Tour to the Philadelphia P.G.A. Section, but who has also taught the game for thirty-two years to over nineteen thousand individual golfers and at over five hundred clinics and camps. Some well-known teachers have taught the game of golf, but they themselves have never competed on a high level. Some players have played the tour but have never really been teachers. This book has been written from both perspectives. It presents educational information that will help golfers at all levels to maximize their opportunity to become better players. Most importantly, a teacher has to consider each student as an individual. It all begins with and depends on the identity of the student. How can they be helped to identify who they are as a golfer? For this reason, Mind Game will neither describe the so called perfect positions in the golf swing nor compare your swing to that of Ernie Els or Fred Couples. Understanding how to improve the mechanics of the swing is only a small part or percentage of how to improve a player's game. On the other hand, what it does present is a multitude of unique insights and secrets into how to play better golf, the single-most mentally-challenging sport in the world. The goal is to get inside the players brain and share many aspects and situations that will allow them to manage themselves and make correct decisions both on and off the golf course. How do you handle nerves away from the golf course? Have you ever spent time at home or in your hotel room with a two-shot lead in either your club championship or the state amateur and wondered how to approach the situation? Do you utilize visualization and a pre-shot routine before each and every shot? Are you aware of ball flight laws? What foods and drinks should you eat or stay away from before and after playing? What should I consider before, during and after taking a lesson? Is there a difference between warmup and practice? How can a player prepare properly for a tournament? What does it mean to be in the zone and can I get there? Why should I be concerned with ball flight laws? What can I learn from brain research? Are there benefits in knowing the rules of the game? In terms of club fitting, what are the benefits of having the correct clubs in your hands? Do they match your individual needs concerning factors such as age, physical condition and flexibility? What about your driver and irons? Are your irons adjusted to the correct lies and lofts? Have you been matched with the proper shafts in all of your clubs? How different are you from the best players in the world in handling matters of insecurity, trust, happiness and confidence? The book is designed to be treated like a journal that can be read and reread many times. Important thoughts can either be highlighted or notes can be written down in the margins. In this light, think of it like a cookbook where the reader can go back numerous times to certain topic "recipes and ingredients" and remind themselves about newly learned secrets and insights.
