Book Which Psychotherapy

Download or read book Which Psychotherapy written by Colin Feltham and published by SAGE. This book was released on 1997-04-07 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This controversial book argues that 20th century psychotherapy has been fundamentally characterized by serious disagreement on views of human nature, treatment rationales and goals. Focusing on the differences rather than the commonalities in therapy, eight eminent practitioners demonstrate the diversities in therapies and why, for the most part, it is not possible to tolerate or integrate with other approaches. The book awakened me to understanding more about how a core belief or orientation can result in polarised attitudes towards the person. At the same time, in some cases, there is fundamental common ground which could potentially lead to genuine integration' - "[ac]Eisteach, The Journal of the Irish Association for Counselling and Therapy "Eight distinguished practitioners address twelve different questions, aimed at identifying the distinctive qualities of their own approach and demonstrating how it has been arrived at. The result is a book that will allow both experienced practitioners and trainees to become familiar with and compare the current thinking of these well-known people... the very passion of these opposing and sometimes exclusive convictions may be the well-spring for the efficacy and achievements of these eminent practitioners and trainers' -"Self & Society " Each therapist highlights the distinctive properties of his or her orientation, and discusses questions such as: why and how they came to found, adapt or choose the approach they currently practise; what criticisms of the approach they consider to be valid; which approaches they consider to be ineffective, misleading or dangerous, and, conversely, more promising or effective; why their approach is more effective or comprehensive, and why it may be more suited to certain clients or client problems; and how they account for research which suggests that no one approach seems more effective than any other.

Download or read book Power Games written by Richard Raubolt and published by Other Press, LLC. This book was released on 2021-04-20 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: www.richardraubolt.com An intense account of the misuse of power in psychotherapeutic training that offers solutions to this urgent issue. Over the course of his own training in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, Richard Raubolt came to see that advanced training is more often than not plagued by authoritarian practices, some subtle and many pronounced. It is the contention of Raubolt and his contributors that these practices instill fear and foster blind obedience to the favored proclivities of the leaders of the training institute. In turn, this subservience, which seeps into the therapeutic relationship, prevents both the training candidates and their prospective patients from developing creative, authentic, and meaningful experiences. This is a book written from the perspective of scholars and experienced clinicians who are acutely aware both on a personal and theoretical level of the disruptive role of power games in psychoanalytic institutes. The collection features a highly nuanced and comprehensively developed psychoanalytic understanding of the use and misuse of power, authority, status, and control operating in many traditional and nontraditional training experiences. Finally, new supervisory and training models based on empathy, respect for subjective experiences, and democratic principles are proposed as an alternative to the abusive practices so powerfully described in this book.

Book excerpt: Read Feeling-Intention Therapy to Discover— • FIT Incorporates REBT & CBT to Go Beyond Both Master Your Intentions & Feelings • Master Your thoughts & Responses 17 Diagrams & 8 Tables Make It Easy • Master Your Heart & Mind New Comprehensive Therapy System • This book presents the most comprehensive model available for understanding human feelings, intentions, thoughts, and responses. • This book presents a new therapeutic system to advance the counseling profession. • However, anyone familiar with Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) or Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) will find it comparatively easy to understand because FIT subsumes and builds upon those two models. • We have made this book accessible for professional practitioners and those seeking personal improvement, self-help, and self-knowledge. Do you dare face your inner demons? • Do you intend to overcome your inner demons? Then this book is for you. • Do you dare to prioritize the intention to be awake, aware, and alive? Then this book is for you. Want to Finally Map and Understand Your Mind? • Are you consumed by a desire to fully understand the workings of your mind? Then this book is for you. • This book will help you to discover a revolutionary psychological approach for both self-help and professional help. 5 or 12 Factors Controlling Human Responses • Feeling-Intention Therapy (FIT) will teach you the twelve main factors controlling, influencing, and motivating human behavior. • However, you only need to focus on five to make your life better. • When you know and understand why you do what you do, you will also learn why other people do what they do. • When you understand why you did what you did, you can more effectively and efficiently improve what you do next time. • When you know how to change the factors controlling your behavior, you can help others change their behavior by teaching them to change the same factors. • When others see you living a centered and meaningful life, then they will want what you have. Advanced & Exhaustive Psychology • Psychology has never been so complete or as clear and precise as it is in Feeling-Intention Therapy (FIT) because the order of psychological events is fully delineated. • While being a major advance in psychological understanding and application, FIT does not claim to work on biological or sociological issues except insofar as they are secondary issues and side effects of what FIT does address. • However, FIT is more than willing to work using a team approach wherein a group of professionals work together when helping a client, each one focusing on a different issue, communicating with and assisting each other as needed. FIT provides the map. You provide the territory. • Your counseling practice provides the experience. • Your experience of receiving FIT counseling provides the evidence. • Your contribution provides the needed help for both the theory and others.

Book Toward a Psychology of Uncertainty

Download or read book Toward a Psychology of Uncertainty written by Doris Brothers and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-04-12 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since trauma is a thoroughly relational phenomenon, it is highly unpredictable, and cannot be made to fit within the scientific framework Freud so admired. In Toward a Psychology of Uncertainty: Trauma-Centered Psychoanalysis, Doris Brothers urges a return to a trauma-centered psychoanalysis. Making use of relational systems theory, she shows that experiences of uncertainty are continually transformed by the regulatory processes of everyday life such as feeling, knowing, forming categories, making decisions, using language, creating narratives, sensing time, remembering, forgetting, and fantasizing. Insofar as trauma destroys the certainties that organize psychological life, it plunges our relational systems into chaos and sets the stage for the emergence of rigid, life-constricting relational patterns. These trauma-generated patterns, which often involve denial of sameness and difference, the creation of complexity-reducing dualities, and the transformation of certainty into certitude, figure prominently in virtually all of the complaints for which patients seek analytic treatment. Analysts, she claims, are no more strangers to trauma than are their patients. Using in-depth clinical illustrations, Dr. Brothers demonstrates how a mutual desire to heal and to be healed from trauma draws patients and analysts into their analytic relationships. She recommends the reconceptualization of what has heretofore been considered transference and countertransference in terms of the transformation of experienced uncertainty. In her view the increased ability of both analytic partners to live with uncertainty is the mark of a successful treatment. Dr. Brothers’ perspective sheds fresh light on a variety of topics of great general interest to analysts as well as many of their patients, such as gender, the acceptance of death, faith, cult-like training programs, and burnout. Her discussions of these topics are enlivened by references to contemporary cinema and theatre.
