Book The Spiritual Impoverishment of Western Civilization

Download or read book The Spiritual Impoverishment of Western Civilization written by Patrick Mooney and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2021-05-23 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We humans are sparks of divinity in time. With imagination and intuition, we can sense the eternity of our participation in the oneness of consciousness. We are all interconnected and interrelated. Fr. Patrick Mooney, who communicates with God through nature, explores those connections. Dismissing sensational proofs for the presence of an all-embracive Creator, he argues God is in our midst. We only need to open the door of our hearts to find Him. This book seeks to answer questions such as: • Has technology advanced too far for our own good? • Why is human living such a holy and sacred thing? • Why are so many people led astray by atheism? • Is the coronavirus pandemic the work of humans or the work of God? All life is holy and sacred because it is governed by one supreme consciousness. The serenity and peace that subhuman species proclaim in abundance can be found by the human species when we hammer it out through our connection to the natural world. Discover the consciousness of our spirituality and a new paradigm of living to work toward a brighter future with the wisdom in The Spiritual Impoverishment of Western Civilization.

Book excerpt: A twentieth-anniversary reprint of the landmark book that launched the current explosion of social-scientific studies in the biblical field. It sets forth a cultural-material methodology for reconstructing the origins of ancient Israel and offers the hypothesis that Israel emerged as an indigenous social revolutionary peasant movement. In a new preface, written for this edition, Gottwald takes account of the 'sea change' in biblical studies since 1979 as he reviews the impact of his work on church and academy, assesses its merits and limitations, indicates his present thinking on the subject, and points toward future directions in the social-critical study of ancient Israel and the Hebrew Bible.

Book End of Days

Download or read book End of Days written by John O. Hunter and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forty years ago, who would have predicted marriage would no longer have meaning, body parts of aborted babies would be sold, and basic freedoms of speech and religion would be under attack? Back then, we still had primitive notions that the father of a child had an inescapable duty toward not only his baby but to the mother, we thought infanticide and suicide were wrong, and we even thought cities and states could not deny the rule the law. My, how things have changed! In this book, John O. Hunter looks back at the massive shift in our morals with a nostalgic appreciation for the past. He also describes the power of propaganda and Orwellian influence, as well as the power of art and literature to defeat the lie, with specific reference to artists such as Alexander Solzhenitsyn. While the author expresses concern for the present, his Christian faith and knowledge of artificial intelligence make him a believer in our future. The stage is set for the next stage of evolution, as long as the next generation can team up with thinking machines to reach a higher spiritual and material ground than weve ever known before.

Book God s Providence and Randomness in Nature

Download or read book God s Providence and Randomness in Nature written by Robert John Russell and published by Templeton Foundation Press. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In October 2014, a group of mathematicians, physicists, ecologists, philosophers, and theologians gathered at a special conference in Berkeley, California to present the results of a two-year research program dubbed “Project SATURN”. This program explored many of the rich avenues of thought found at the intersection of modern science and Christian theology. Chief among them is the possibility that certain processes in nature might be so complex that they do not have sufficient physical causes. Known as “ontological indeterminism”, this idea has profound implications for theology. Specifically, it allows God to be thought of as acting providentially within nature without violating the laws and processes of nature. Such a momentous insight could influence how we understand free will, natural evil, suffering in nature, and the relation between divine providence and human evolution. The essays collected here discuss each of these topics and were originally presented at the 2014 conference. Part I establishes the scientific basis for conceptualizing certain process in the universe as inherently random and possibly indeterministic. Part II discusses the philosophical and theological issues that spring from this understanding. Together they represent the cutting edge of thought in the increasingly productive dialogue between science and theology. Short for the “Scientific and Theological Understandings of Randomness in Nature”, Project SATURN was created by the Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences, a Program of the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley. It was funded with a grant administered by Calvin College and provided by the John Templeton Foundation.

Book excerpt: Hegel is widely regarded as one of the major thinkers of the modern era, if not the entire tradition of philosophy. Hegel, like many philosophers, took seriously traditional philosophical perplexities about God, but unlike many modern philosophers he claimed to take the specific characteristic of Christianity into account in his philosophizing. This book presents a new examination, interpretation and critical engagement with Hegel's philosophy of religion, and with his concept of God in particular. William Desmond explores the distinctive stresses of Hegel's approach to God, the influence it has exerted, and the fundamental problems that his approach exhibits.

Book Aries Ascendant Secrets

Download or read book Aries Ascendant Secrets written by Saket Shah and published by Saket Shah. This book was released on 2020-01-05 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are times when people just can’t identify with the attributes of their Sun or Moon sign. In fact, they may feel that they are an antithesis of their zodiac sign. You may also have observed it. Your Leo friend may not seek attention, may be because he or she has a Capricorn ascendant. Your Sagittarius friend is very possessive, may be because he or she has a Scorpio Ascendant. It is easy to understand why some people do not correspond to their Sun or Moon signs once you know about what is the rising sign or Ascendant in a horoscope. Ascendant is the degree of the zodiac sign that was highest on the Easter horizon at the time and place of birth. When seen from Earth, the sky seems to move, so the entire zodiac can be observed in a span of 24 hours day which means the rising sign changes on the Eastern horizon every 2 hours because there are 12 zodiac signs. People tend to associate their physical, emotional and spiritual attributes more with rising sign at times.

Download or read book God s Clockmaker written by John North and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2010-07-15 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clocks became common in late medieval Europe and the measurement of time began to rule everyday life. God's Clockmaker is a biography of England's greatest medieval scientist, a man who solved major practical and theoretical problems to build an extraordinary and pioneering astronomical and astrological clock. Richard of Wallingford (1292-1336), the son of a blacksmith, was a brilliant mathematician with a genius for the practical solution of technical problems. Trained at Oxford, he became a monk and then abbot of the great abbey of St Albans, where he built his clock. Although as abbot he held great power, he was also a tragic figure, becoming a leper. His achievement, nevertheless, is a striking example of the sophistication of medieval science, based on knowledge handed down from the Greeks via the Arabs.
