Book Pilgrim s Wilderness

Download or read book Pilgrim s Wilderness written by Tom Kizzia and published by Crown. This book was released on 2014-07-15 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Into the Wild meets Helter Skelter in this riveting true story of a modern-day homesteading family in the deepest reaches of the Alaskan wilderness—and of the chilling secrets of its maniacal, spellbinding patriarch. When Papa Pilgrim, his wife, and their fifteen children appeared in the Alaska frontier outpost of McCarthy, their new neighbors saw them as a shining example of the homespun Christian ideal. But behind the family's proud piety and beautiful old-timey music lay Pilgrim's dark past: his strange connection to the Kennedy assassination and a trail of chaos and anguish that followed him from Dallas and New Mexico. Pilgrim soon sparked a tense confrontation with the National Park Service fiercely dividing the community over where a citizen’s rights end and the government’s power begins. As the battle grew more intense, the turmoil in his brood made it increasingly difficult to tell whether his children were messianic followers or hostages in desperate need of rescue. In this powerful piece of Americana, written with uncommon grace and high drama, veteran Alaska journalist, Tom Kizzia uses his unparalleled access to capture an era-defining clash between environmentalists and pioneers ignited by a mesmerizing sociopath who held a town and a family captive.

Book Beyond the Final Frontier Everything for the Theory of Everything

Download or read book Beyond the Final Frontier Everything for the Theory of Everything written by Mihai Fătu Efori and published by ePublishers & Editura Coresi. This book was released on with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are intelligent beings. This is why we are preoccupied with these questions: Who are we? Where are we coming from? Where are we going? But besides intelligence we are endowed with yet another quality of the mind and this is why we are troubled by even more enigmatic problems: Does God exist? Do we, humans, have a soul or are we just the superior product of evolution of matter, simply emerged from the Big Bang? This book is a provocation: set aside your intelligence for a while, at least for the duration of the journey we invite you on. We will travel as far as possible and surprisingly, we are not going to navigate with our intelligence but with the other quality of our mind. It will guide us to the last frontier of matter, to the last frontier of time and to the last frontier of knowledge. We will set out on this trip armed on one hand with what scientists tell us they discovered digging deep inside our universe, deep inside matter and deep inside time and on the other hand also with what religion reveals for us. Who is telling the truth: science or religion? In the end we will be surprised to find out that atheists and believers contradict each other absolutely in vain. In fact, they all say the exact same thing. Do you think this is a paradox? You are right. This is what your intelligence thinks! But this paradox is an impediment only for your intelligence. Our skillful guide will help us overcome this apparent set-back. Do you want to know how? Open the book.

Book excerpt: Put your flawed foot forward. Pick up most leadership books and you’ll find strategies for leveraging your power and minimizing your areas of weakness. But think about the leaders whose names have gone down in history. Most of them were so messed up that, if they were looking for work today, no executive placement service would give them the time of day. God’s criteria for choosing leaders runs counter to the conventional wisdom. Our culture equates strength with effectiveness, but God favors leaders who know the value of brokenness. In Leading With a Limp, you’ll discover what makes flawed leaders so successful. They’re not preoccupied with protecting their image, they are undaunted by chaos and complexity, they are ready to risk failure in moving an organization from what is to what should be. God chooses leaders who aren’t deceived by the myths of power and control, but who realize that God’s power is found in brokenness. If you are a leader–or if you have been making excuses to avoid leading–find out how you can take full advantage of your weakness. A limping leader is the person God uses to accomplish amazing things. To go deeper, check out the Leading With a Limp Workbook.

Book excerpt: Star Trek was right — there is only one final frontier, and that is space... Human beings are natural explorers, and nowhere is this frontier spirit stronger than in the United States of America. It almost defines the character of the US. But the Earth is running out of frontiers fast. In Brian Clegg's The Final Frontier we discover the massive challenges that face explorers, both human and robotic, to uncover the current and future technologies that could take us out into the galaxy and take a voyage of discovery where no one has gone before... but one day someone will. In 2003, General Wesley Clark set the nation a challenge to produce the technology that would enable new pioneers to explore the galaxy. That challenge is tough — the greatest we've ever faced. But taking on the final frontier does not have to be a fantasy. In a time of recession, escapism is always popular — and what greater escape from the everyday can there be than the chance of leaving Earth's bounds and exploring the universe? With a rich popular culture heritage in science fiction movies, books and TV shows, this is a subject that entertains and informs in equal measure.

Book Death the Final Frontier

    Book Details:
  • Author : Charles Banks
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2020-01-12
  • ISBN : 9781659591606
  • Pages : 150 pages

Download or read book Death the Final Frontier written by Charles Banks and published by . This book was released on 2020-01-12 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Death is a destination of finality. We are all headed towards this destination, which, depending on beliefs, leads us to an afterlife, or to a never-ending sleep. Throughout the pages in the book, I will explore questions that we all have regarding the processes of death and beliefs of an afterlife. The stories shrouded in the mystery of death will hold a true testament to the beliefs of groups throughout history and today. There are times when spirits can align themselves with people within this plane. When this happens, we can either look at it as if there is a mental condition, or a deeper meaning that perpetuates within the psyche of the paranormal. Many of us out there would question the mental make-up of someone that writes about such instances. I can say from personal experience, that this phenomenon occurs, and maybe at a higher rate than we realize. Death the Saga Publication's continues to take great pride in bringing you experiences from the divine and supernatural in a way that makes sense in our heart of hearts. Note; this is my personal relationship with God, Christ, and all the Angels that are there to discern the darkness that remains a great distractor in our lives today. This book explores my relationship with God, personal experiences, Scripture interpretations, and a detailed account of fighting the evil that seems to be opening the door to so many people in the world, in churches, and in homes today. I do not claim to be an expert on this matter, but I will claim that God has reawakened me to new thought processes within spiritual discernment and warfare. I thank God today for again opening my heart and allowing my soul to again thirst for the knowledge of the almighty. I have truly reestablished my born-again mentality. The paranormal has always been an interest of mine through the years. Whether the typical movie at the theater, or visiting areas that have been a hot spot for activity from enthusiasts. Several years ago, during a family vacation we visited two such sites; Bullock Hotel in Deadwood, South Dakota and the Villisca Axe Murder House in Villisca, Iowa. Like all families, we had fun experiencing such sites that the "Ghost Hunters" have visited. Chasing ghosts was a fun activity and seemed harmless. Although there have been occurrences in my life that I cannot physically explain. I have broken down the stories in my book in occurrences that I have personally experienced. Take a look, examine the situation and believe what you wish regarding the paranormal and how it affects us in our daily lives. This book will explore all the possibilities in regards to religion, spirituality, and the supernatural in regards to the legacy that God has in all of our hearts. I have given my heart to Jesus Christ again, once again I will try and make sense of the mysteries that are presenting themselves to my family and I. I do know that many of you will find what I have to say demoralizing to the spiritualist movement or within the paranormal, and I am perfectly fine with that. This is merely a dialogue of my spiritual development over the course of the last few years. Enjoy the book and may God bless you.
